Die syrische Regierung unternahm praktisch nichts, um die Folgen der
Dürre abzumildern

Dürre war ein Migrationstreiber unter vielen: Insbesondere Bashar alAssads Wirtschaftsreformen erhöhten den Druck

Binnenmigration nahm zu, aber ging nicht nur in die Städte, sondern
folgte etablierten Migrationskorridoren in ländliche Gebiete

Migrierte Landarbeiter waren eher pro-Assad und nahmen nicht an den
Protesten teil

Migranten verfügten nicht über die nötigen sozialen Netzwerke, um einen
Aufstand dieser Dauer und Intensität zu organisieren

Aber: Zu sehen, wie die Regierung den Norden während der Dürre
verarmen ließ, spielte als Motivation für die sesshafte Bevölkerung
durchaus eine Rolle
