PROJECT REGULATIONS “START UP FOR YOUNG CONDUCTORS”
BACKGROUND
The project “Start Up for Young Conductors” is being launched by the European
Festival of Youth Choirs Basel (EJCF) in cooperation with the Swiss foundation
„Emil und Rosa Richterich-Beck Stiftung”. It offers young, ambitious choral
conductors from Europe the opportunity to realize a qualified exchange project
with young choirs in their home countries. The beneficiaries visit the European
Festival of Youth Choirs in Basel, Switzerland, May 4 – 8, 2016 for free as
preparation for their own follow-up concert projects. The festival presents an
ideal opportunity for them to expand their own know-how and network.
SELECTION OF BENEFICIARIES
The following selection criteria decide on the awarding of the stipends:
resident in Europe (Switzerland excluded)
born after May 8, 1981
proof of education and experience which convincingly demonstrates the
conductor’s capability to realize a musically and organizationally promising
choir project
letter of motivation which attests the conductor’s intention to realize such a
project
A maximum number of 10 beneficiaries can be included in the program. The
festival’s artistic committee and the Swiss foundation decide on the awarding of
the stipends. Application deadline is December 21, 2015. The decision will be
communicated by early February 2016 at the latest.
REALISATION OF PROJECT 2016 – 2017
The project consists of two parts belonging together:
1) participation in the EJCF 2016 festival in Basel and
2) launching of one’s own follow-up concert project in one’s home country
The 10 beneficiaries visit the European Festival of Youth Choirs in May 2016.
They commit to be present at the festival in Basel, Switzerland, from Wednesday,
May 4 at 7.30 pm until after the final concert on Sunday, May 8 at 2 pm.
Accommodation, board, transportation and concert tickets are offered free of
charge. Travel costs will be reimbursed during or after the festival upon
presentation of receipts. The festival days offer the beneficiaries the opportunity to
visit numerous concerts of highly qualified youth choirs, to learn about the music
culture of some participating choirs in hour-long events, to participate in open
singings, to attend the official festive jubilee activities, to join the party for all
singers and to expand one’s network by making contact with professionals of the
international choral scene. Moreover, meetings with the festival director allow for
a look behind the scenes of the festival organisation.
Subsequent to the festival visit, the beneficiaries are expected to launch their own
projects in their home countries. They are to submit to the festival a short project
description including a financing plan by the end of September 2016.
