space situational awareness Workshop with Industry: Preparing the next phase of ESA's SSA programme 9 Sept at ESA’s European Space Operations Centre, Darmstadt, Germany In 2009, ESA launched the development of a system that will enable Europe to autonomously monitor the space environment and detect and mitigate hazards to the population and to infrastructure both in orbit and on the ground. Through its Space Situational Awareness (SSA) programme, ESA is networking existing assets and developing new ones that will allow the provision of timely and reliable information on the space weather phenomena, near‐Earth objects and space debris that threaten satellites in orbit as well as life and property on the ground. As the current phase of development (Period 2, 2013‐2016) draws to a close, ESA is preparing the next step. In Period 3 (2017‐2020) of the programme, ESA will look towards the implementation of an operational system while continuing to develop new capabilities and implementing more services in the now‐ and forecast domain to enhance the awareness of the space environment. European industry is hereby encouraged to play an active role in defining the future. Interested companies and institutions are invited to a workshop to take stock of the progress achieved to date, to discuss and shape the perspectives for the next phase, and to consider the various opportunities for industry. ESA SSA managers will also be available for one‐on‐one meetings. Main domains within the programme are: Ground segment, data systems, software, products and related IT infrastructure, mission analysis, space and ground segment developments / instrumentation and satellites. To register for the workshop, please send your name, title and company name by email before Friday 24 July to Nicole Michailidis at SSA‐[email protected] or call +49 6151 904365. If you would like to discuss specific subjects during the workshop or request a meeting with SSA managers, please indicate the technical domains / topics of interest and the points you would like to discuss.
