The International KNOPF Competition for Violin, Viola and Violoncello aims
to support and promote young and gifted musicians, music students,
soloists and aspiring orchestral musicians.
The competition is named after the famous German bow-making
family Knopf, who were active between 1767 and 1939.
Their bows were played by great virtuosos like Ole Bull and
Joseph Joachim and are now valuable collectors’ items and
concert instruments.
The one-year loan of such KNOPF master bows are the main prizes in
this competition.
In 2016 the following prizes will be awarded:
• Three KNOPF master bows (violin, viola, violoncello) as one-year loan
• Solo recitals in one of the concert series of
the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein
• Scholarship for studying at the
International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein /
Conservatorio di Musica „Giacomo Puccini“ La Spezia
• Additional special prizes provided by Thomastik Infeld Vienna
Furthermore, in 2016, the Blatow Foundation will be awarding the
one-year use of a violin bow from the French Master Eugène Sartory.
