NOV. 2015 GRÖSSTE EINZELAUSSTELLUNG DES DÄNISCHEN KONZEPTKÜNSTLERS SEIT 10 JAHREN HORNSLETH ME, HORNSLETH YOU Größte Einzelausstellung des dänischen Konzeptkünstlers seit 10 Jahren Hamburg, 01.10.2015 Er gilt als „enfant terrible” der dänischen Kunstszene: Kristian von Hornsleth. Seine Kunst provoziert, schockiert und bringt dabei aktuelle Themen auf den Punkt. Seine Ausstellung HORNSLETH ME, HORNSLETH YOU ist ab dem 08. Oktober in der Metropolitan Gallery in der Hafencity zu sehen. Sofakunst? Alles andere als das. Aufrütteln will er, polarisieren, nur bitte eines nicht: gefällig sein. Dass er das ernst meint, macht der erste Blick auf seine Arbeiten deutlich. Kristian von Hornsleth will mit seiner Satire die Heuchelei in unserer Gesellschaft entlarven und dabei setzt er nicht nur auf Malerei. „Alles kann der Kunst dienen”, sagt der Däne, „Skulptur oder Objekt, Luxusauto oder Pornofilm.” Tattoos und Kleidung übrigens auch – und natürlich Aktionen. Der Künstler aus Kopenhagen ist ein Meister der absurden Happenings: Bei seinem „Uganda Village Project” brachte er mehr als 100 afrikanische Dorfbewohner dazu, seinen Nachnamen anzunehmen – im Gegenzug erhielten sie einige Nutztiere. Auch seiner Ausstellung in Hamburg 2 ging eine künstlerische Aktion voraus: In der Nacht vom 28. auf den 29. September verteilte von Hornsleth über 300 Kunstwerke in verschiedenen Stadtteilen. Die 60 x 60 cm großen, auf Kunststoff aufgebrachten Motive aus seinen letzten Serien waren zum Mitnehmen bestimmt – ein Stempel auf der Rückseite weist sie als Serial wie auch als Einladung zur Vernissage am 08. Oktober aus. Seine Inspiration, so sagt er, beziehe er aus der Auseinandersetzung mit Künstlern wie Warhol und Beuys, aber auch die Kreativität von Zeitgenossen wie Regisseur Christopher Nolan, Unternehmer Elon Musk oder Wissenschaftler Stephen Hawking haben Einfluss auf seine Entwicklung. Galerist Gregor Bröcker holte den sympathischen Künstler nach Deutschland. In der Metropolitan Gallery in der Hafencity findet die erste und größte Einzelausstellung seit 10 Jahren statt. Mehr als 20 neue Werke werden zu sehen sein, die wie immer bei Hornsleth zeigen, wie weit Kunst gehen kann. Eine Herausforderung darf der Gast auf jeden Fall erwarten, Langeweile? Born in Scotland in 1963 and brought up in Denmark, Hornsleth confronts our obsession with branding and celebrity, and hot political issues, head on with a ruthless wit. His ability to shock and inspire at the same time has won him a large following among a new generation of opinion formers and art lovers in Denmark. So much so, award winning playwright Jakob Weis wrote a stage play called ‘Kill Hornsleth’, which won Denmark’s two top national drama awards. His ground-breaking conceptual project: “The Uganda Village Project”, in which he persuaded villagers in a poor African town to change their surnames to Hornsleth, legally, in return for goat or a pig, caused an international media storm. And it made him a popular public speaker. Hornsleth works in sculpture, objects, performance projects and mixed media paintings, which feature his witty one-liners or his trademark slogan F.Y.A.L. – meaning Fuck You Art Lovers, or For Young Art Lovers, “depending on who’s asking”. Among his star projects are his hand painted supercars, such as Morgan, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini and Ducati motorbikes. His work is in several major collections and has been shown in galleries and museums all over the world. Hornsleth’s bold imagery, wit and provocative statements have won him a growing fan base as well as fierce criticism, but as one art critic said: “He’s one of today’s most well-informed and intelligent artists”.
