Accreditation Update We are pleased that our accreditation team visit April 12-15 was successful. I would like to thank all of you who participated in the Parent Focus Group during the accreditation visit or who assisted in any way in preparation for the team visit. Re-Enrollment Forms for 2015-2016 If you have not returned your re-enrollment form, please send it to your child’s teacher or to the office by Friday,May 22nd. This will enable us to prepare a schedule for the coming school year. If you have questions, please contact the office at 0561-62-4196. Please see the referral incentive information below. No increases in tuition are scheduled for the coming year. New Student/Family Referral Incentive for 2015-2016 As an incentive to our current ICAN families, ¥10,000 will be deducted from your 2014-2015 or 2015-2016 tuition for each family you refer who enrolls a student or students for the new school year. Please ask new families to list your name on the application form under “Where did you hear about ICAN?” Please call or email the office if you have questions. The PSAT is offered to students who will be in grades 9-11 during the 2015-2016 school year. Each year, millions of students worldwide take the PSAT/NMSQT to prepare for the SAT®, enter scholarship competitions, and gain access to valuable university and career planning tools. There is a charge of ¥3000 to take the test. This must be paid at the time you register for the test. Please register for the test in Mrs. Jones’ office. Because tests must be ordered at this time, please submit your registration by the end of April. The order will be placed when we return from the upcoming holidays. MAP Testing May 11-22 MAP testing is scheduled for May 11 - 22. (Individual teachers have exact dates when their class will be testing). We would like to encourage you to ensure that your child is on time unless there is an emergency or illness. Teacher Appreciation Dinner, May 23 The PTF Committee has decided to cancel this year's talent show due to time constraints. We hope to resume the talent show next year. The Teacher Appreciation Dinner will still occur on May 23, 2015 from 6:30-8 :30pm at the Nisshin City Hall. An invitation will be sent out on April 27. Please let us know if you can join us by May 7. We look forward to sharing a final evening with our 2014-2015 ICAN staff. Bento Lunches Ordering instructions/forms for bento lunches are available on the school’s website. You may order for a month in advance. It has been a lot of fun! There will be one more Spirit Week for this school year. It will be May 25-29 to celebrate the Spring Picnic on Friday, May 29. Following are the themes for the Spirit Days: 5/25 5/26 5/27 5/28 5/29 Monday—Facial Hair Day! (Come to school with a Mustache, Beard, or a Uni-brow, or all three) Tuesday—Fashion Disaster Day! (Dress in clothes that would not match) Wednesday—Alter Ego/Superhero Day! (Dress up as your opposite personality or a superhero’s secret identity or a superhero) Thursday—Multiplicity Day! (Be a twin with someone or dress alike as a group) Friday—ICAN Spirit Day! (Wear an ICAN t-shirt to show your ICAN spirit!) Japan Summer Seminar Summer too long? Worried that you might forget what you learned? Wishing to learn more about Japan? Never fear! This summer Miss Megan Jones will be offering Japan seminar courses for students entering grade 7-12 to practice vocabulary, grammar, writing, and more! Every weekday from July 1-17 we will meet for 3 hours each day to learn about Japan’s history, literature, and culture while practicing various academic skills. Grades 7-8 will meet from 9am-12, and grade 9-12 from 1pm-4; the cost is ¥30,000 per student for the whole program. Non-ICAN students are invited to join, but English proficiency is required.
