「停電」
Oregon has had power outages so many times this season. It
happened on a windyday; trees fell and hit the electricity polls.
It already happened three times since I came to Sweet Home.
We do not have anything to do when we do not have power, so it
is very boring. I knew the school is going to be canceled by the
power outage when I was talking with my friend. It was a windy
day. I was making bread in my food class. Then the lights went
suddenly off. My group had not put our bread in the oven yet. I was really upset about it because I
could not bake and eat bread. I was excited to go home. At first, the high school decided for us to wait
an hour to go home, but later they changed that plan to back to the original schedule. I was so upset.
They should have to change because elementary school cannot promise students’ safety. I am taking a
class to use a computer. Usually we just type to take notes but I did handwriting that day. I was tired. I
watched a movie during another class. Finally I stayed at school all day. The students who stayed all
day got cookies at the end, but I was not happy because I was so tired. Sweet Home High School has
more than 700 students, but there were only 135 students to stay in school.
I have lived a half year in United States, and I understand English more deeply than before. I know a
lot of things I could not learn in our school. I am sure I might not know about many things if I did not
come to the United States. I realized my English pronunciation is totally messed up. I feel like I am
pronouncing correctly but I do not. Americans cannot understand if I cannot say correctly. I think my
English level is getting better and better. I want to study more. The third trimester will start in a week
at Sweet Home High School. I hope I can make new friends.

The Super Bowl, the championship game of American football, was this month. It was played by the teams
from Seattle and New England. Seattle is located next to Oregon. I went to my friend’s house to watch the
game with my host brother. Most of us supported the Seattle Seahawks. First, we predicted which team

would win, and who would get the most touchdowns in the game. I predicted that the Seattle Seahawks
would win. Then the game started with the Seahawks’ kickoff. There was no touchdown in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Patriots made the first touchdown. But then the Seahawks finally got a
touchdown and we were thrilled. After the first half, Katy Perry sang her songs and performed with dancing
sharks during the halftime show. In the fourth quarter, the
Patriots turned around and scored. The Patriots built a 4 point
lead with few minutes left until the end. The Seahawks needed
one more touchdown to win. The Seahawks came to 5 yard line
before a touchdown. We believed they were going to win. The
Seahawks’ quarterback passed the ball to their receiver, but the
Patriots’ safety stole it, and the Seahawks got a turnover. They
lost! Therefore, the Patriots became the champions of NFL,
American Football in 2015. Come on Seahawks!
It was my birthday on the 14th. I had the last basketball game for our team. I was a starter in the game.
“Heart 123 1,2,3 HEART” we Crusaders yelled and the game started. We kept playing hard, but we lost the
game. It was a very close game. I’m sorry that our basketball season is over, because I had so much fun on
the team. I have good memories and a good experience, so I would like to play it again someday. After going
home I got a nice new chessboard from my host parents. They already knew I liked it. I play chess with my
friends lately, so I am lucky to get a new one. I want to play against better chess players.
I played sports and chess with my friends and talked with them this month. I went to practice baseball. I
am going to play baseball, because I love it.

「日本の技術」
There was no special event at school, but I went to a car
show and Eugene. It was to celebrate the birthday of my
host mother’s father. The car show that I went is called
“Portland International Car Show”. There were so many
cars which are new models from all over the world. There
were super high-grade carmakers, for example, Ferrari
and Lamborghini. But these makers are much different
from other makers, because there was fence around the
cars. It looks like they want to defend their cars from people’s hands. People can touch and ride all the
cars except for the super high-grade cars. I was very satisfied, because I like cars very much.
My host father’s car is getting old so he needs a new car. That's why I went to the car show with family.
But his car has no trouble from the day he bought it until today. So I thought he doesn't have to buy

new car but he said in this country the people who have high mileage cars have to pay extra money. At
last he bought a Honda Accord. My host family likes Honda very much. So my host mother and host
brother are also using Hondas.
In this country, Japanese cars are very popular, so I can see Japanese cars a lot. People that I know
are using Japanese cars, so I was so surprised at first. And when I ask people that have Japanese cars
about why they use Japanese cars, they say, “Japanese cars will never break”. I was surprised because
I didn't think that Japanese cars got trust so much.

「城西クラブ」
For Valentine’s Day, some students gave their girlfriend a
very large stuffed bear. It was very, very big, and I thought
it was so sweet and nice. In Josai Club, students raised
money for their trip to Japan by selling cheesecake stuffed,
chocolate dipped strawberries as a fundraiser. They also
hosted a Valentine’s dance that was very fun and attended
by many students.
On February 20, I attended the last basketball game of
the season at SHHS. I attended 3 basketball games that night. 2 girls’ teams and 1 boys’ team. The game
took 5 hours. Our cheerleaders preformed during half time of the basketball game. They also led cheers to
get fans excited during the game. Because my host sister is a cheerleader, our family goes to many sporting
events. This game was a very close scoring game so the cheerleaders from both schools were very active and
competitive. It was also senior honor night at the basketball game, so the parents and younger players
presented each senior with gifts of flowers and balloons.
This past week, we had a battle of the sexes competition. The boys challenge the girls in many competitions,
like a milli vanilli lip-sync competition, dress up days, a dance off, some games during the assembly, and a
scavenger hunt where students collect pictures of themselves doing crazy things. I went with many of my
friends to the milli vanilli even、t. If I knew what this was I would have liked to do it with my friends. I
enjoyed the show. Tanner, my friend Keisha’s brother, competed in the lip sync competition and sang a girl
song. He also wore Keisha’s clothes and I thought that was so funny.
