2015年度推薦入学選考(11月18日実施) 英 語 分 野 問 題 ( 1 ページ〜 7 ページ) − 1− Ⅰ 次の文を読んで、あとの問いに答えなさい。( ••• のついた語句は文末に注があります。) Lately I’ve been wondering, are we supposed to love our jobs? Now and then you ⑴ meet someone who says it unconditionally: “I love my job!” But it doesn’t happen very often . ••••••• In fact, I would say that over half the people I know wish they had a different job or are actively job hunting . Will they find greener pastures? ⒜ Considering the poor state of the economy, it’s surprising that so many people dislike their jobs . When you’re unemployed, almost any job looks good . Just the other day, I heard someone on the radio say, “I’ll take any job!” Like all the other laid-off and unemployed folks, this person just wanted to A . I still remember how I felt the day I got hired full time after working part-time jobs for two years . All my problems are solved, I thought! There’s a huge feeling of relief and gratitude when you realize how lucky you are to have work in a ⑵ troubled economy . But that phase is like a honeymoon . As you get to know the job better, you see its flaws more clearly, and every job, like every person, surely has its flaws . Then •• you have to decide whether to stick with it or look for something better . I recently served on a hiring committee and was surprised to see how often people move from job to job . Two years at one job was very B and many people had a long series of two-year jobs . In the US, that’s how people tend to move up into higher positions . In fact, some people say staying in the job for five years is too long because it looks like you don’t have enough ambition and initiative . When I worked in Japan, I noticed a big C between my Japanese and Western colleagues . Very few Japanese left, but the majority of Westerners did . Sometimes they left to take better jobs, but sometimes they just wanted a change or less stress in their lives . I think some of my Japanese colleagues envied the way we just up and left, but I always admired their ability to stick with the job and endure . Of course some of the moving around ⑶ had to do with expats going back home, but now that I’m in the US workforce, I can see that ••• changing jobs is the norm here . •• With so much job-hopping, some managers try hard to keep employees happy so they’ll ••••• stick around . One way my company does that is with “bravos .” A bravo is an email sent by •••••• one employee to another to say, “Nice work!” All the bravos are published in a monthly newsletter, and once a year we have a party honoring everyone who gave and received one . ⑷ − 2− A bravo can be for something big or small . Here’s a funny example: We recently moved a huge number of books to a different location . I had to dust a lot of shelves and had mildly complained to my boss about the strong cleaning product giving me a headache . The next week I got a bravo from her saying, “Thanks so much for helping us clean those shelves .” I laughed and felt D about my job!
