集団記憶の抹消を徹底的に拒むことが抵抗の第一歩なのかもしれない。

展示のメインとなるコピーのインスタレーションは2011年3月の原発事故とその後の問題に関しての
集団記憶の抹消を表しています。（題名のbizhubC745eは単純に使用した複合機の機種名である）コ
ピー機の特性を用いて、原画である「KIZUNA NIPPON」の文字でライトアップされた東京タワーと放
射能廃棄物を含んだフレコン袋の絵をコピーした変化を展示しています。
Mega Cityと題した顔の集まりの立体作品は、国連が出した「2050年には世界人口の66%が都市
部で生活しているであろう」という統計に基づき、加速する都市化と人口移動をコンセプトに制作され
ました。移動と人口統計のコンセプトは変わらないが、現在の世界情勢を考慮すると今ではこの作品か
らはシリア難民問題という不意のディアスポラも連想できるのではないかと思います。
合わせて展示することによってこれらの作品は経済発展と政治のために原発問題の集団記憶の抹消を
許してしまった日本社会への批判であると同時に、これから余波が見えてくるであろう難民問題が同様
に資本主義や政治の都合のために私たちの記憶から抹消されぬようにと訴えかけている。

Artist Profile
岩間香純
1989年生まれ。
2011年 School of Visual Arts
ファインアーツ学科卒業
ドローイング、立体、インスタレーションを通してグローバル化（グローバル資本主
義、英語覇権主義社会、多様性対グローバル統一）、フェミニズム、情報社会などの
テーマを、「ゆとり世代」視点で表現する。ニューヨークのスクール・オブ・ビジュ
アル・アーツでファインアーツを学び、その後はニューヨーク、東京、バルセロナな
どで制作と発表を続けており、現在は東京を拠点に現代日本社会の中にある不調和や
社会課題をテーマに制作をしながら、フェミニストのアクティヴィズム活動にも参加
している。

Maybe the first act of resistance, is to refuse to allow our collective memory to be wiped.

The main installation work in this exhibition of the photocopies, titled bizhubC745e (simply the name
of the copy machine used), represents the wiping out of our collective memory of the March 2011
nuclear disaster and its aftermath. The original linoleum print is composed of two images: the Tokyo
Tower lit up with the words “KIZUNA NIPPON” and the bags of radioactive waste accumulating in the
area surrounding the nuclear plants. The installation will show what changes occur to the images when
it is photocopied.
The piece titled Mega City, was initially created with the concept of urbanization and rapid
demographic change, based on the UN reported statistic that by 2050, 66% of the global population
will be living in urban areas. Although the same concepts of migration and demographic change
applies, what comes to mind now is the Syrian refugee crisis, and what that diaspora will lead to in the
future.
Together, these works are a criticism of allowing our collective memory of the nuclear disaster being
wiped away in favor of drastic economic and political reform, and addresses the next pressing global
crisis that may fall prey to the obliteration of collective memory and aggressive capitalism if we do not
resist by remembering.

Kasumi Iwama
Born in 1989
2011 Graduated from the School of Visual Arts (BFA Fine Arts)
Kasumi Iwama is an artist whose drawings, objects, and installations explores and presents
globalization (such as global capitalism, the hegemony of English, diversity vs global homogeny),
feminist issues, and information society through her perspective as a bi-cultural millennial. After
studying fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York, she continued her artistic practice in
NY, Tokyo, and Barcelona, participating in group shows. Currently she lives and works in Tokyo,
creating installation work about the dissonances and challenges in modern Japanese society,
and is also involved in feminist activism.
