In contrast to past studies, recent music and emotion research includes that on the theory of the psychology of emotion. In this paper, we focus on the inclusion of the psychology of emotion in music and emotion studies in which subjective emotional responses, peripheral nervous system activity, and physical features of musico-acoustics were examined. We are particularly interested in the relationship between subjective emotional experience and peripheral nervous system activity or physical features of musico-acoustics in time-series responses. Following the review, we discuss the directions of future studies of music and emotion, and the contribution of music and emotion studies to the psychology of emotion.
