our profession have also dramatically changed and continue
to change. The current instability of the global climate makes
it our duty to maintain avenues of communication. Today’s
young lawyers are tomorrow’s leaders, and play a vital role
in spreading the ethical, legal and business culture and assisting governments, NGO-s and businesses to deal with the
upcoming challenges.
Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends, Sehr geehrte Kollegen!
It is a pleasure to invite you to Munich, Germany to participate in the 54th International Young Lawyers’ Congress organised by AIJA, where we expect over 600 participants! The
event is a unique learning and networking opportunity for all
career-building lawyers working on the international scene,
and is essential for promoting legal culture and for enhancing
cooperation and friendship between lawyers aged 45 and
below from all over the world.
AIJA is an incredible organisation which not only contributes
to making the world a better place through the friendships
built here among different cultures and nations, it also helps
the participants’ personal and career development and business generation in a very efficient and enjoyable way.
In AIJA’s more than half a century of history, this will be the
third time that our annual congress returns to “München”,
after 1965 and then 1988, the year before the Berlin Wall,
“die Berliner Mauer”, came down in Germany and the democratic changes in Central Eastern Europe started. Since then
the world has undergone significant political, economic and
social changes and the pace of our lives and the demands of
München will offer a great setting for the cutting edge scientific and unique social program that the Organising Committee and the Work-Coordinators, with the help of other
volunteering AIJA members, have put together.

The congress hotel is ideally located within the beautiful English Garden, which is among Europe’s biggest
city parks, with a lake at the centre (don’t be surprised
to see wetsuits and wakeboards or sun-loving Münchners
sunbathing on the lawn with their coats, ties and dresses
neatly piled beside them). It’s no surprise that some of the
famous beer gardens are conveniently located a few steps
away. What more can you ask from a congress hotel in the
month of August?!
Come and join us to experience the “AIJA Spirit” and to
make this a congress to remember!
Herzlich willkommen in AIJA, herzlich willkommen in
München!

subcommissions, as well as for the impressive venues chosen for the social programme: The AIJA “Speed Dating” is
a perfect start into great business networking, to be continued during the Welcome Reception. Congress participants
will be touched by the Opening Ceremony, the most official
function of the week. Local lawyers will open their homes for
the most charming aspect of any Congress – the traditional
Home Hospitality Dinner. And after half a Day Out in nature
with old friends and new acquaintances experiencing typical
Munich leisure activities, the Congress participants will be
blown away by the closing Gala Dinner, the highlight of every
International Young Lawyers’ Congress.
It is our pleasure to welcome young lawyers from all over the
world to Munich for the 54th International Young Lawyers’
Congress organized by AIJA taking place between August
23rd and 27th, 2016.
Bavaria’s capital is Germany’s third largest city, a stylish metropolis that has nevertheless kept its traditional, almost rural
charm. Of course, Munich is best known for the world’s largest
beer festival, the “Oktoberfest”. However, you will see there
are plenty of other things and places to discover. Munich is
also famous for its beautiful architecture, its fine culture and
museums. Moreover, the Alps are just a little more than an
hour away. Take some days off before or after the Congress
to visit Munich, Bavaria and the rest of Germany!
We hope we have made you curious enough and are proud
to host you in this lovely city of historical sites, in the midst
of Bavaria’s abounding natural beauty, and enjoy with you
days of intensive and comprehensive scientific work as
well as vibrant social life. More information is available at
www.aija.org/munich.
Furthermore, Munich is one of the leading business hubs, both
in Germany and Europe. Companies from every industry and
business sector operate here. Global players, dynamic and profitable SMEs, innovative high-tech companies and many more.
Our Congress will take place at the Hilton Park Hotel located right next to the English Garden (“Englischer Garten”),
the green heart of Munich, a wonderful place to relax, enjoy a beer in one of the beer gardens, watch surfers on the
“Eisbach” Creek, or simply stroll around. And don’t miss one
of the best views of Munich from the “Monopteros”, a classical
pavilion built on a hillside in the midst of the English Garden.
We are absolutely sure that the Congress in Munich will bring
you as much pleasure as it brings us and are looking forward
to seeing you in Munich in 2016!

Introduction to the scientific program
by the Work Coordinators
It is a great pleasure for us as Work Coordinators to give you
a first insight into the scientific programme of the International Young Lawyers’ Congress of AIJA in Munich 2016. Its
various workshops and working sessions spread over 5 days,
organised by AIJA’s 20 scientific (sub)commissions will allow
you to enhance your skills and knowledge. Moreover, you will
get to know young lawyers from all over the world to further
develop your own network.
thirst for knowledge besides offering the possibility to have
one or two beers in a shady and relaxing beer garden!
AIJA’s commissions of all different fields of law handed in an
overwhelming amount of proposals. Of course, this was a
work coordinator’s dream for shaping an attractive scientific
programme. However, the high quality and number of the
commissions’ proposals also had a downside: given the fact
that the slots were strictly limited we had to make a choice.
We are aware that the present result would not have been
possible without the great support and cooperation of all
commissions for which we are grateful.
Nicolas Mosimann, Christian Presoly, Bernd Hauck
Although the scientific programme is nearly finalised, we still
have an open ear for your inputs or concerns. Do not hesitate
to contact us if there are any queries.
See you in Munich for a magnificent congress! Prost!
Work Coordinators:
Nicolas Mosimann
One of the trends of the diversified programme is the obvious
need to introduce and discuss new legislation. These slots will
definitely enable practitioners to catch up on the latest developments. Another trend seems to be green economy which
obviously touches different fields of law being addressed by
four commissions. Furthermore, there are numerous joint
working sessions offering views on topics from different legal perspectives. All this convinces us that the International
Young Lawyers’ Congress in Munich 2016 will quench your
