We understand that humanity may now alter the global environment in ways that can fundamentally affect the environmental systems upon which we―and many other species―depend. And we must acknowledge that this human change occurs in environments that are also always changing themselves. The idea of the Anthropocene represents one attempt to conceptualize the intertwined character of human and natural agency, and its significance in the world today. The Anthropocene is now being debated as the title of a newly arrived geological epoch―the present time―in which humanity is recognized as a force of geohistorical proportions. Still, we might say that the Anthropocene arrives too late! It hardly represents the first attempt to conceptualize humanity nature. This seminar explores the of the Anthropocene: where it comes from, how it is used today by different research communities, how it might relate to other Japanese and Western traditions of environmental thought, and how it might help us to understand environmental change in the world today. 人間の活動が環境に影響を与えていることは誰でもが知っているが、では何をすればいいのかは誰も 知らないように思える。 人間活動の影響は、人間と生き物がすむ環境システムそのものを変えてしまうほどの変化をもたらし ている。と同時に、われわれは、その人間による変化そのものも変化している環境の中で起こってい ることも知らねばならない。 アンソロポシーン概念は、この環境と自然のからまりあったエイジェンシーと、現代における意味を 問う。アンソロポシーンという言葉は、人間の力が地質年代的に見てまでも無視できなくなってきた ことに警鐘を鳴らし、新たな時代区分を提唱するものとして、いま議論を呼んでいる。 本セミナーは、そのアンソロポシーンをめぐるセミナーである。 アンソロポシーン概念はどこから来たのか。学術分野によってどのような受け止められ方の差がある のか。日本と西洋の環境思想とどのような関係がありうるのか。それは、今日のわれわれの環境変化 について理解をどのように変えるのか。 本セミナーでは、人と自然に関する新しい概念である、アンソロポシーンに関するこのような様々な 問題を議論したい。 #1 Welcome to the Anthropocene? アンソロポシーンとは何か？ Japanese and Western perspectives on human-environmental change 日本の視線、西洋の視線 17 September 2015 14：30 - 17：00 Lecture hall, RIHN 総合地球環境学研究所・講演室 Open to the public 入場無料・申し込み不要 Language: English/Japanese 使用言語：英語 / 日本語 Augustin Berque is a French geographer and philosopher, and professor at the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris). His specialization is in Japanese conceptualizations of nature and nature-society interactions, and he has written and translated extensively on this subject. He is a visiting associate professor of RIHN. 三条京阪 長代川 Daniel Niles, a human-environmental geographer, is associate professor at RIHN. He is also Director-General of the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature. 出町柳 京阪本線 Heinz Gutscher has investigated the human dimensions of environmental change and sustainability for over 40 years. He is professor emeritus of social psychology at the University of Zurich, and Chair of the Forum for Climate and Global Change (ProClim) of the Swiss Academy of Science, among numerous other posts.
