ウチとソトの空間概念で日本語・日本文化を解く

日本語ではウチは「三次元的な空間の内部」の意味も「自分の家」の意味もあります。このような意味拡張はどうやら日本語だけのよ
うです。人生の最初のウチの原空間は母親の体内で、自分が母親の胎内から生まれ出る最初の空間はソトの原空間です。一度生まれると、
「家」の空間がウチ空間になりますが、脳科学の見地からすれば、ウチのウチは脳ではないかと言えるかもしれません。さらにウチとソ
トはメトニミー（換喩）による意味拡張でその空間にいる人をも意味します。ウチのソトには知らない人がいるわけで、その人たちには心
理的な距離感を持っています。ただ、ウチとソトは白黒がはっきりしているわけではなく、ソトが次第にウチになったり、ウチがソトにな
ったりします。私の話ではウチとソトの「認知言語文化学」を、おそかれはやかれ、アニメの古典になるにちがいない『千と千尋の神隠し』
(2001) に焦点をおいてどのような立体的な内容中心の日本語・日本文化教育ができるかについてみなさんと考えて行きたいと思います。
もし対象になっている宮崎のアニメを未見の方は私の話の前にかならず見ておいていください。そして「神隠し」というタイトルはウチ・
ソトでどう説明できるかを考えてください。
The Japanese word UCHI means both three dimensional space and one’s own house. Such semantic expansion seems to have occurred only in
Japanese. The first space in human life is the proto-UCHI-space of the mother’s womb and the first space outside mother’s womb is the proto-SOTOspace. Once we are born our home will become our UCHI space, but from the perspective of brain science one could say that the inner-most space is our
brain. The proto-SOTO-space will instantaneously turn into the UCHI-space. Furthermore, UCHI and SOTO are subject to metonymic expansion to mean
people in those spaces. We tend to have psychological distance with people in outside our UCHI-space. But UCHI and SOTO cannot be sharply
distinguished in black and white. SOTO gradually changes to UCHI and vice versa.
In my presentation, in order to show how we can prepare Content-Based Instruction in classroom.
I would like to use the cognitive linguo-cultural principles of UCHI and SOTO from “Sen to Chihiro no Kami Kakushi “(“Spirited Away” 2001), which sooner
or later should become an Anime Classic. In case you haven’t seen the anime yet you should watch it and think about how you can explain the title of
the anime before you listen to my presentation.
