Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT), Bremen The Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) in Bremen is a member of the Leibniz Association, which is supported by the German Federal and State Governments. Through its research, ZMT contributes to developing science-based strategies for sustainable use of tropical coastal systems (www.leibniz-zmt.de). The ZMT plans to develop an online spatial data-portal to showcase our data based on a connection with our internal database, as well as stream data from other providers to create an easy-to use source of spatial data for all researchers interested in tropical coasts. We have one position available for a WebGIS/Visualization Expert (Reference Number: 2016 - 1) Job description: We are looking for an individual who will develop the portal according to our thematic needs and in close collaboration with domain scientists and the existing IT staff of ZMT. An Example of a portal similar to the planned one is e.g. NANOOS NVS. Existing open source WebGIS applications will be adapted to the requirements of the ZMT (collaboration between scientific disciplines and with partners in tropical countries). The portal will be connected to our internal database and to external data providers. It is envisioned to grow into a one-stop shop for tropical marine data for researchers of a number of disciplines. Requirements: The applicant will need the documented necessary skills to develop a spatial web portal. A geo-related information science degree is an asset. Specific skills could encompass e.g. database design (SQL), programming (php, Javascript, HTML and/or CSS), webservices (REST, SOAP), relevant APIs. With your application, please provide a CV highlighting your computational skills, a sketch of the methods you would use to develop a web portal for ZMT as well as examples of related projects you were involved in. The employment envisages a 100% position to be filled for 18-months; part time work is possible. Envisioned starting date of the position is the 1st of April, 2016. Salary will be paid according to the German TV-L. ZMT is an equal opportunity employer. Disabled persons with comparable qualification receive preferential status.
