Theme (1) Tourism
As the annual number of foreigners visiting Japan is expected to reach 20 million by 2020, it is important to promote tourism
spending and take it as an opportunity to increase the Japanese economy and vitalize regions by increasing the number of
inbound tourists. METI plans to implement demonstration projects to develop the environment to promote consumption by
improving the satisfaction of foreign tourists for their entire stay from entry through departure using IoT in FY 2016 (requesting
funds from the FY 2016 budget for the project).
The specific plan is to establish a platform that links information on foreigners visiting Japan, including their movements,
transportation used, meals, accommodations, and payments, to their ID information.
The first theme-based event for Project Organization and Company Collaboration aims to promote the creation and public
implementation of new businesses which utilize the platform.

Theme (2) Manufacturing (smart factories)
As significant changes in the added value obtained from the manufacturing industries emerge through policy platforms such as Industry
4.0 in Germany and the Industrial Internet in the U.S., it is also important for Japan’s manufacturing industries not only to improve their
productivity and reduce costs at manufacturing sites in Japan but also to establish new systems to increase the added value of products
and services. METI plans to develop the necessary environment and tools for this and conduct demonstration projects to examine their
effectiveness in FY 2016 (requesting funds from the FY 2016 budget for the projects).
The specific plan is to establish information systems linking machines, processes, factories, and companies.
This event aims to encourage business operators to participate in this efforts to create and publicly implement these systems.
