This is a full-time, fixed-term position at the Kyushu University (Fukuoka, Japan) International Student Center, open to scholars in all professional fields. The candidate will be expected to start January 1, 2016 (or at the earliest possible time thereafter) and work through March 31, 2020. Job description Kyushu University (KU) in 2014 was designated by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) a core institution for its Super Global University Project, a major national funding program that aims to help elevate a few renowned universities across the country to top global status within the next ten years. In conjunction with this project, KU's International Student Center (ISC) has newly created a position intended to strengthen the University's internationalization efforts through the promotion of global learning and study abroad opportunities for Japanese students. The ISC now calls for applications for this position, which will include the following responsibilities: 1. Help to create effective educational environments through which KU Japanese students may acquire advanced foreign language skills and knowledge of other cultures. 2. Develop curricula for selected academic programs and coordinate relevant events that enhance KU students’ global awareness and understanding. 3. Develop and manage programs to facilitate on-campus cross-cultural exchanges involving KU students. 4. Help to develop for KU students short-term (up to one year), outbound, ISC-operated study abroad programs. 5. Support the creation or expansion of two-way study abroad exchange programs for KU students. 6. Disseminate across campus relevant findings and recommendations of the MEXT-based Project for Promotion of Global Human Resource Development. 7. Provide KU students with internationally relevant academic advising and career guidance. 8. Help to improve KU study abroad management practices, ensuring academic and experiential quality and safety for all KU students. 9. Support the development of innovative, state-of-the-art, and high-demand global education programs, including collaborative double-degree programs. 10. Conduct individual research in area(s) of professional interest and competence. 11. Teach courses for ISC academic programs in area(s) of professional interest and competence. 12. Contribute as a faculty member to other tasks necessary for the ISC’s effective functioning. Foreign (non-Japanese) nationality (or, if Japanese, a degree awarded abroad). 3. Proficiency in both Japanese and English sufficient to effectively command all tasks listed in the job description above. 4. Teaching (or instruction-related) experience at a higher education institution. 5. Work experience in coordinating study-abroad programs or managing student exchange activities. 6. A passion for and professional commitment to promoting international education, professionalism consistent with ISC’s policies and expectations, and the collegiality needed to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of ISC. Compensation: Compensation will include commuting, regional adjustment, and end-of-term allowances as well as a basic salary paid monthly, with all determined in accordance with the University’s wage schedule. Work location: Duties initially will be carried out mainly at the older Hakozaki Campus, but increasingly at the new Ito Campus, to where the University is expected to complete its full relocation by AY 2018.
