Nagashi-bina starts at 11:30 am and ends around 1 pm. Anyone who purchases a floating paper doll (\800) at this site is able to take part in this event. One of Shishimai lion dances, Kama-Meguri-no-mai is distinguished for its dance by splashing hot water with bamboo leaves over visitors. This is the festival of fire prevention and has a 300-year history. A parade of a gigantic Mikoshi (portable shrine, weighing 1 ton) carried by sixteen young men accompanied by about 500 people and children in traditional attires, departs from the Shrine at 12 noon, marching through the city, and returns at 8 pm. The rituals including bothYumiuchi (Japanese archery shooting) and Dattan (priests brandish burning torchlights) to exorcise evil spirits, are conducted from 1 pm to 7 pm. The highlight of the rites is Taimatsu Gyoretsu (torchlight procession) which leaves Jinguji Temple at around 7:30 pm for the place called "Unose", where Omizu-okuri ritual (the priest pours the sacred water into the Onyu River) takes place from 8:30 pm to 9 pm. It is believed that the water from Unose reaches the Wakasa-i (well) on the grounds of Todaiji Temple in Nara, 10 days later on Mar. 12th, when Omizu-tori (Sacred Water-drawing Ritual) in Nara is held. The festival with a 1,200-year history is to pray for a rich harvest of the year, and is designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Properties. The highlight of this festival is Hadaka-Oshiai in which about 500 young men only in loincloths purify themselves in the cold water, and then jostle each other to the advantage of getting Kifuda (wooden tablets of prize coupons) in Bishamondo Hall, several times from 6 pm to around 11 pm. This is the festival to pray for the bumper crop of the year, and is designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties. When a baby girl is born, her mother and grandmothers sew Sagemon stitch by stitch, wishing her to grow up healthy, and decorate them at both sides of Hina dolls to celebrate her first Girl's Festival. On Feb. 11th, a procession of girls and adults in traditional Hina doll attire, and floats adorned with colorful Sagemon , takes place from 10 am. On Mar. 16th, a parade of girls and adults dressed in Hina doll costumes sitting on the boats sails through the canals bedecked with Sagemon from 11 am to 12:20 pm.
