ファースト・ソーラー（Nasdaq: FSLR）は本日、ヨルダン・ハシェミット王国（以下、ヨルダン）にある 52.5MW
(MWAC)規模のシャムス・マアーン（Shams Ma’an、以下、シャムス・マアーン）太陽光発電所に、EPC（設計、
調達、建設）サービスを提供する契約を締結したと発表しました。また、本プロジェクト向けに長期間の O&M
（運用・メンテナンス）契約もまとめました。
ファースト・ソーラーは、ヨルダンの発電および配電関係当局であるヨルダン国営電力会社（NEPCO）と 20 年
にわたる電力購入契約（PPA）を締結し、プロジェクトの開発に多大な貢献をしました。ファースト・ソーラーは、
ヨルダンのカワール・グループ（Kawar Group、以下、カワール）と共同で同プロジェクトを開発し、同国の再生
可能エネルギー分野における追加対外投資支援へのコミットメントの一環として、三菱商事の子会社であるダ
イアモンド・ジェネレーティング・ヨーロッパ（Diamond Generating Europe Ltd.）、カタール発電・造水会社の子
会社であるネブラス・パワーQ.S.C.（Nebras Power Q.S.C.）、およびカワールが参画する投資コンソーシアム
に持ち株を売却することを決定しました。なお、契約条件については公表されていません。

中東地域において最大の太陽光発電施設となる同発電所は、エネルギー安全保障の強化を目的としたヨルダ
ンの発電源ポートフォリオの多様化戦略において重要な要素となっています。南ヨルダンの「マアーン開発地
区イニシアティブ（Ma’an Development Area initiative）」の一環として、2015 年初めの建設開始が予定され
ている同プロジェクトでは建設中に 500 人の雇用創出を見込んでいます。2016 年に完成した際には、ヨルダ
ンにおける年間エネルギー出力の 1％とほぼ同等の、年間 1.6 億キロワット時（kWh）の電力供給が見込まれ
ています。

ファースト・ソーラーの中東地域担当テクニカル・ディレクター、マシュー・マーファート（Matthew Merfert）は次
のように述べています。「実際のところ、ヨルダンにとって重要なのは電力の生産量なので、低コスト、実環境下
における高いエネルギー・パフォーマンスを達成するために、プロジェクトのあらゆる側面において最適化が図
られました。例えば、現地は大変高温条件のため、我々の先進薄膜太陽電池モジュールは、シリコンベースの
モジュールを使用した同じ定格出力の発電所や太陽電池アレイと比べ、最大 8%多くのエネルギーを生産する
ことが可能です。さらに、ファースト・ソーラー・トラッカー（ファースト・ソーラーの単軸太陽光追尾装置）を使用す
ることで、発電所は固定設置型のものを使用した場合と比べ、20%以上多くのエネルギーを生産することがで
きます。」
シャムス・マアーンは、ファースト・ソーラーの中東地域における 2 件目の電力事業規模プロジェクトです。ファ
ースト・ソーラーは、現在同地域において最大の太陽光発電所であるドバイのムハンマド・ビン・ラーシド・アル・
マクトゥーム・ソーラー・パーク（Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park）の第 1 フェーズである
13MWDC のエンジニアリングと建設を完了しました。いくつもの賞を受賞した同プロジェクトは、着工から 195
日後の 2013 年 10 月に、アラブ首長国連邦の電力網に接続されました。
