法隆寺五重塔 (the five-story pagoda of Horyuji Temple)について述べたもの

Do you know these two *towers in the pictures? One is the
five-story pagoda of Horyuji Temple. It is
about 32 meters and is one of the

wooden buildings in the world. The
other tower is the Tokyo Skytree. The 634
meter tower is one of the tallest in the
world. Japanese modern technology made
the tower so high.
The Tokyo Skytree was built to send
*radio waves to the large area around Tokyo.
The Tokyo Tower has worked for more than 50 years, but it is not tall
*enough because there are many high buildings around it. So we needed a
new tower which was more than 600 meters tall. To build this tall tower,
the *engineers had some problems to *solve. One of them is that the
Tokyo Skytree will have many big *shocks. So the engineers tried to

When the engineers built the Tokyo Skytree, they got an idea from
the five-story pagoda. It was built many years ago, but it has never fallen
down from Japan’s many big shocks. It has stood for about 1,300 years.
They thought there was something important in this old tower.
The answer was “shinbashira.” It stands *at the center of the pagoda
*from under the ground to the sky. The
pagoda can *absorb shocks and stands
*against strong winds. The shinbashira
and the other things of the building move
in a different *cycle, and this makes big
shocks smaller. This idea was also used in
the Tokyo Skytree.
When people built the pagoda,
they didn’t use *nails. They made holes in the *wood, and *put the wood
together. It makes a little *space between the wood to absorb shocks.
