KASHIMA
Kashima is a city with a population of 63,280 on the Pacific coast
in the south of Ibaraki Prefecture. It’s known for its Kashima Jingu
Shrine dedicated to a god of martial arts. The Kashima Antlers,
professional soccer team, was formed in 1991 with the full support of the city’s political and business circles. They boast the
country’s first genuine soccer stadium. In 2000, the Kashima
Antlers conquered the second stage of J League, the Nabisco Cup
and the Emperor’s Cup. Against this background, the soccer-lov-
ing city has been selected as one of the 2002 World Cup venues.
Weather and clothing for the month of June
The rainy season called Tsuyu starts from June and continues to
mid-July, which is a sign of summer in Japan. The average temperature in Kashima is 19.5 C (67.1 F) and we have 19.8 rainy days in
June. It is rainy and humid but sometimes chilly. Tourists are
advised to take a windbreaker or a jacket and a collapsible umbrella.
