宇宙探査,天文学のための砥粒加工技術
2010 年 6月13日,宇宙探査機
“はやぶさ”は幾重の困難を乗り越えて無事地球に帰還した.地球引力圏外の天体に着陸
し地質調査用サンプルを採取して往復宇宙飛行という快挙を成し遂げたのである.天文ファンでなくても大変嬉しいニュー
スの1つとして記憶に新しい.
本号の特集は,この
“はやぶさ”をはじめH-2ロケットなどオールジャパン技術が集結した宇宙産業における「砥粒加工
技術」の役割にスポットを当てることにした.これにあたっては,長年,天文衛星用X 線望遠鏡の加工法研究に携わった
中部大学難波先生にコーディネータをお願いし,宇宙探査における砥粒加工技術の総論もご執筆いただいた.そのほかに
は,各分野の専門家の皆様にスペース・オプティクスの設計,材料および加工,天体望遠鏡の分割鏡の製作やこれから打
ち上げるX 線天文衛星における最新砥粒加工技術の事例を挙げていただき,砥粒加工の重要性とクリアすべき課題を明
らかにしていただいた.本特集記事をとおして宇宙探査・天文分野における砥粒加工のニーズを理解し,砥粒加工技術者
のなすべきことを思考するきっかけになれば幸いである.
