n’ondata positiva ha investito la Liguria tra
il 2007 e oggi. Si tratta di una operazione
gigantesca di restauro e poi di valorizzazione e promozione del patrimonio storico della
regione intera che in sigla si chiama asse 4 del Por
Fers 2007-20013 ma che nella concreta realtà ha
coinvolto ben 95 beni tra cui – per fare solo alcuni esempi - il Castello di Garlenda e quello di
Torriglia, come pure la Ventimiglia romana e il
borgo di Brugnato. Ma anche il piccolo museo
delle campane di Avegno e quello più celebre della
filigrana di Campo Ligure, spesso lontano dai percorsi turistici, la villa Jorn ad Albisola (finalmente! La casa ereditata del grande pittore era in
attesa di essere riscoperta da anni), il Castello di
Noli, Luni e la Fortezza Firmafede a Sarzana. L’intero progetto è stato sviluppato e curato dalla Regione Liguria che, dopo aver ottenuto dall’Europa
42 milioni di euro, ne ha investiti altri 20.
Oltre ai preziosi interventi di restauro su tanti beni
liguri, c’è una novità tecnologica importante che
coinvolge la rete e i social media grazie al progetto
Liguria Heritage. In futuro 31 beni liguri – raccolti nell’area tematica dei castelli feudali sparsi in
tutta la regione – avranno le proprie audioguide
scaricabili attraverso il portale di Liguria Heritage.
Oggi ne sono già pronte sette: quella del borgo di

wave of good fortune has hit Liguria between
2007 and the present. It’s a gigantic restoration
operation, followed by value-adding and promoting of the historic heritage of the entire region
which goes by the title Asse 4 del Por Fers 200720013 but which in concrete reality has involved a
good 95 other architectural highlights among which –
just to give a few examples – is the Castle of Garlenda and that of Torriglia, the old Roman ruins in
Ventimiglia, and the village of Brugnato. But there is
also the little Bell Museum in Avegno, and the more
famous Filigree Museum in Campo Ligure, often far
away from tourist routes, the villa Jorn in Albisola
(finally! (That house that the town has inherited from
the great painter was just waiting for years to be rediscovered), the Castle in Noli, Luni, and the Firmafede Fortress in Sarzana. The entire project was
developed and organized by the Regione Liguria
which, having received from the European Union 42
million euros, invested other 20 million.
In addition to precious restorations in so many Ligurian places, we now have a new and important technology which involves the internet and the social
media thanks to the project called Liguria Heritage.
In future, 31 Ligurian sites – chosen by the theme of
feudal castles, which are spread across the region –
will have their own audio-guide which can be dow-

via via messe sul portale nei prossimi mesi, si aggiunge un intervento tecnologico di maggiore
portata: per la prima volta in Liguria sarà realizzata
nel Castello di Montoggio (il sito verrà inaugurato
a fine marzo) e in quello di Noli (sarà pronto questa estate) la Realtà aumentata con avatar tridimensionali di personaggi storici: così i visitatori
godranno della ricostruzione dei fatti che avvennero in quel luogo e che le pietre, da sole, non possono trasmettere.
Significa che a Montoggio potremo “parlare” con
Gerolamo Fieschi, qui decapitato nel 1547 dopo
aver tramato nella congiura contro i Doria. Un’occasione di curiosità maggiore per l’antico borgo
del Genovesato che vanta i ruderi di un castello a
mezza collina. È dunque in declino l’epoca del
“cartellone esplicativo” che ci ha utilmente accompagnato nei decenni o la compagnia discreta
delle guide cartacee: ora la tecnologia ci stupisce
con gli effetti speciali e i supporti tecnologici renderanno più attraenti luoghi finora trascurati.
Tutto il progetto di innovazione tecnologica è
stato affidato da FILSE, finanziaria della Regione
Liguria ed esecutrice del progetto, a Datasiel: da
qui è nata Liguria Heritage, un progetto di valorizzazione artistica e storica di centri storici, ville e
palazzi, fortificazioni, musei e cultura al fine di at-
nloaded through the Liguria Heritage portal. Seven
are already ready today: that of the village of Villanova di Albenga and the six castles of Torriglia, Pietra
di Vobbia, Dolceacqua, Cosseria, Vernazza, and Sarzanello. To the audio-guides, which will steadily be
put on the portal in upcoming months, a technological intervention of even greater impact is to be added.
The first one in Liguria (with the planned inauguration of its site for late March) will be done for the Castle of Montoggio, followed by the Castle of Noli
this summer. Reality will be increased with tridimensional avatars of historic characters. In this way visitors will be able to enjoy vivid reconstructions of
happenings in historic places whose stones, on their
own, have more difficulty transmitting. This means
that after almost five centuries, Gerolamo Fieschi (decapitated here in 1547 by his Doria arch-rivals) will
speak again in Montoggio. This should augment curiosity about the ancient village in the Genovesato
(the region behind Genoa) with the ruins of the castle
halfway up its hill. And therefore the era of the “explanatory sign” is now in decline, after having accompanied us for decades, along with that of paper
guides. Today technology amazes us with special effects, and support technology should make places
that have long been neglected much more attractive.
The whole project has been given by FILSE, the financing board of the Regione Liguria and the executor of
the project, to Datasiel. This was the starting point for

Liguria Heritage ha dunque il compito di far marciare il Por Fers 2007-2013 la cui sigla spiegheremo al lettore. Il Por è il Piano operativo regionale
che ha individuato quattro assi su cui investire il
denaro concesso dal Fers (Fondo Europeo per lo
sviluppo regionale): uno di questi quattro assi di
intervento è dedicato alla “valorizzazione delle risorse naturali e culturali”, mentre altri hanno coinvolto l’industria e le infrastrutture. Per cui se
sentite parlare dell’asse 4 del Por Fers 2007-2013
gioite: significa che il patrimonio artistico e naturalistico di Liguria, un pezzo significativo del territorio italiano, ha ricevuto parecchie cure
strutturali e, in aggiunta, un investimento sulla
tecnologia per rendere fruibili in particolare il settore dei castelli e della Liguria Feudale.
Va infatti ancora spiegato che Liguria Heritage ha
individuato sei aree tematiche per i propri interventi, una è appunto quella dei castelli della Liguria Feudale, le altre cinque sono: Da Liguri a
Romani (storia e preistoria), Liguria terra di forti,
Saper fare (dove sono confluiti i musei dell’artigianato), Eleganza del vivere ovvero dimore e giar-

the development of artisan craftsmanship, agriculture, and local products. This holds true also because
those in charge have already worked with local tourism structures, contacted mayors and assessors, and
spoken with those involved in the tourism industry.
Liguria Heritage therefore has the job of making Por
Fers 2007-2013 work. We will now explain its codename to our readers here at BLUE. Por stands for Operational Regional Plan. It has identified four axes on
which money from Fers (the European Fund for Regional Development) should be invested. One of these
is dedicated to “adding value to natural and cultural
resources”, while others involve industry and infrastructure. And therefore, when we speak of asse 4
(axis 4) of the Por Fers 2007-2013 you are to react
with great joy. This means that the artistic and nature
heritage of Liguria, a significant piece of Italy, has received structural cures and, in addition, the investment in technology which will make, in particular,
the sector of castles and feudal Liguria easier to enjoy.
It remains to be explained that Liguria Heritage has
identified six themes for which it seeks intervention.
One of these is, as explained above, the castles of feudal Liguria. The other five are: From Ligurians to Romans (history and prehistory), Liguria the Land of the
Forts, Know-how (which adds in artisan museums),

Con la parola heritage, ormai di uso internazionale, si intende l’intero patrimonio storico e monumentale di una regione. Ovvero l’eredità, anche
ambientale, che i Liguri di oggi ricevono dai liguri
loro antenati e che, oltre a essere memoria, è
anche occasione di sviluppo e di crescita per l’intera comunità e per il singolo che consolidano sia
le proprie radici sia il rapporto con l’ente pubblico
responsabile del recupero e della valorizzazione del
bene.
Naturalmente anche per il turismo è una grande
occasione: valorizzare il nostro patrimonio consente di ampliare a diversificare l’offerta turistica
creando anche l’occasione di attrarre visitatori non
solo nei mesi estivi lungo le nostre belle coste ma
anche in altri periodi dell’anno dirottandoli nei
borghi dell’entroterra, a visitare i castelli che sorvegliano le vallate, a vedere i piccoli musei sparsi
sul territorio e le vestigia romane, gli acquedotti e
le fortezze.

With the word, “heritage”, which by now has international significance, one intends the whole, entire, historic and monumental heritage of a region. This
means the inheritance, including the environmental
inheritance, that the Ligurians of today have received
from their ancestors and which, in addition to being a
lovely memory, can also be an occasion for development and growth for the entire community. This also
holds true for individuals, as they consolidate both
their own roots, along with relationships with public
entities responsible for the recovery and appreciation
of the asset.
Naturally, this, for tourism, is a great occasion. To
bring out the value of our heritage allows us to amplify and diversify our tourism offerings creating at
the same time the occasion to attract visitors not just
in the summer months to our beautiful Riviera, but
also in other periods of year, rerouting them to the
towns and villages of the mountain hinterlands. There
they can visit castles that watch over valleys, see the
tiny museums that are spread out on the territory,
and Roman ruins, aqueducts and fortresses.
