35 Baker Street, London W1U 8EN PRESS RELEASE Alfonso and Massimiliano Cacchiarelli Principi: ‘Aethere’ Massimiliano Cacchiarelli, known as Miano, was born in 1970 in Macerata (MC) where he now lives and works. From an early age he attended the workshop of his father, the artist Alfonso Cacchiarelli Principi. After graduating in Natural Sciences, he went on to complete the course in Set Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata and in 2000 began his career as a professional artist. The Aethere sculptures were developed through this artistic collaboration between father and son. The series is so relevant for both artists that it is fast becoming their signature form. ‘Aethere’ has a double meaning: firstly, it is a reflection of the unseen energy that is present in all things. It is also the acronym of Aeternum Errare Tacita Humana Essentia Recondita Est – or The Silent Deep Human Nature Essence Is Making Mistakes. Errare also has two meanings; to ‘make mistakes’ and to ‘wander’, a reference to our never ending desire for self perfection-‘forma in formam usque ad perfectionem’. The Cacchiarelli philosophy is that meaning must be found through other forms than language. Ever the alchemist, he gives form to the imperceptible, recording the primordial energy vibrations in the stainless steel. These twisted metallic honeycombs contain perfectly mirrored orbs; they resemble underwater corals and angelfish hiding among the silver weeds. A scarab bird stretches out an intricate metal lacework for wings. In order to experience them fully, the viewer must look past the visual symbols of structure and form, aware of something deeper. In this way, the sixth sense will be released to perceive what the other five senses cannot. As Giamblico, a neo-platonic philosopher who studied the Egyptian hieroglyphs, used to say; ‘Dimitte voces accipe sensum’/‘Leave out the words and catch the meaning’. Ends Since the end of the 1960's, Alfonso Cacchiarelli Principi’s works have been the subject of many exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including "Art 90 for Europe” in London town hall, Elisabeth Cantell showroom and Marche Award at Biennial Contemporary Art. In 1985, a unique event organised by Carlo Melloni listed him as one of the main Marche abstractists, together with A.Pomodoro, Marotta and Uncini. Massimiliano Cacchiarelli Principi is an Italian painter and sculptor that started out as an apprentice in his father’s workshop. His works have been the subject of many solo and collective exhibitions in private galleries, and public/private institutions’ permanent collections. His works are on display in museums such as San Marino Italian Embassy Contemporary Art Collection and the Palazzo Ricci Modern Art Museum, Macerata. The latter dedicated an exhibition to him and his father in 2006. Massimiliano also makes public sculptures, and was commissioned recently by the Macerata Lions Club. Many art journalists have written about Massimiliano and Alfonso's works, including critics such as A. Ginesi, Stefano Papetti, Evio Hermas Ercoli, Marino Zancanella, G.Binni and E. Crispolti.
