Biochem, U of Milan Since my post-graduate research I have been interested in signaling pathways that control cell growth, differentiation and survival in mammalian cells. I have focused my research on small GTPases and protein kinases involved in cellular differentiation and proliferation, to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in signaling pathways in their role to control normal and pathological cell functions. More recently, in collaboration with R. Mantovani I have started to dissect molecular mechanisms of gene expression regulation by a structural approach, by studying trascription facors interactions involved in oncogenesis. Our work is focused on the histone-like TF NF-Y and its interactions with TFs binding nearby promoter elements, with the aim of understanding promoter organization during transcriptional regulation. Within this line of research, in collaboration with M. Bolognesi group, we recently determined the 3D structure of the NF-Y trimer, in complex with the CCAATbox target DNA.
