I MAGI: SIAMO VENUTI PER ADORARE IL SIGNORE
EPIFANIA DEL SIGNORE
Nell’Epifania la Chiesa continua a
contemplare il mistero della nascita di
Gesù. L’invito a Sion di Isaia (I Lettura),
esplode gioioso anche per noi. È il
Signore che ci invita a balzare in piedi,
lasciandoci rivestire dalla volontà di bene
che Dio ha espressa nella nascita
dell’Emmanuele, il Dio con noi. Il Figlio
di Dio è venuto non solo per il popolo
d’Israele, ma anche per l’intera umanità,
rappresentata dai Magi (II Lettura). Ed è
proprio sui Magi e sul loro cammino alla
ricerca del Messia che la Chiesa ci invita
oggi a meditare (Vangelo). I Magi erano
certi che nella creazione esiste la
cosiddetta “firma” di Dio. Il linguaggio
del creato ci permette di percorrere un
buon tratto di strada verso Dio, ma non ci
dona la luce definitiva. Alla fine, per i
Magi è stata indispensabile ascoltare la
voce delle Sacre Scritture: solo esse potevano indicare loro la via. È la Parola di Dio la vera stella, che ci offre l’immenso
splendore della verità divina. Lasciamoci guidare da questa stella, seguiamola nella nostra vita, camminando con la Chiesa, dove la

EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
TRYING TO SHARE the details of an epiphany with another is fraught with complications. Most of us keep our personal experience of the Holy
to ourselves. Who would believe it or understand it? Ironically, epiphanies are made for sharing, even though they are impossible to
communicate fully.
This is certainly the case of today’s extraordinary Gospel story for the solemnity of the Epiphany of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today the Church
celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the Magi from the East: people of goodwill, open to God, ready to hear and follow God’s call, ever-willing to
follow a star wherever it might lead. Open and starry-eyed, they are naïve, guileless, easily taken in by self-serving priests and murderous kings.
They are romantic, lovable figures, pursuing truth and searching for a deep, abiding joy that the world cannot give.
The star we follow today to the manger speaks to the mind and heart of each of us. The experience of the Magi reminds us that all who make the
strenuous journey to the truth will finally encounter it and be changed in the process. They can never go back to “business as usual” in life. When
we meet Christ and see who he really is, we will never be the same – and only then can we hope to begin to share in his mission.

2015 Catechism Classes
Pre-school, First Holy Communion and Confirmation classes
begin on 11 January 2015 at 9:20 am sharp. Parents’
meeting with Fr. George will be at 9:30 am.

Caring Hands of CFIC Children’s Mission
The CFIC Community of our pastor Fr. George in India
is taking care of more than 250 children who are either
physically or mentally challenged, poor, abandoned or
orphaned. You, too, can be a part of this Great
Mission.
Fr. George is visiting his family and the CFIC Children’s
Mission in India starting this January 20. He will be
giving the donation from the parish directly to these
mission centers. Those who want to donate for this
cause can do so on this occasion. Tax receipts will be
issued. Please contact Fr. George at 780-422-8304.
Thank you for your generous donation and God bless
you.
Father Adam Lech, the Chancellor of the archdiocese,
will help the parish while Father George is away. We
wish Fr. George a safe journey and a fruitful visit to
India.
