DESCRIPTION
Nowadays the scientific and organizational landscape
of the drug discovery process is in a state of rapid
evolution. Cost driven externalization of research activities
has demonstrated poor returns in terms of quality and
productivity.
New open models of precompetitive collaboration,
creation of networks of competences, knowledge driven
drug discovery programs’ are today the most promising
strategies to address the increasing need of innovation.
Moreover new players are entering in the Drug Discovery
field such as charities and patient association that are
expected to provide an increasing role in the process,
changing the focus from basic research to late stage
develop of new drugs.
In the current scenario innovation for new drugs requires
new ideas to translate basic research, into new medicines,
approaches.
This meeting will focus on addressing today’s challenges in
Italian drug discovery with an emphasis on novel business
models and emerging organizational approaches to more
effective translation. Aim of the meeting is to promote the
implementation of novel organizational model for drug
discovery with an emphasis on public/private enabling
networks.
The meeting will bring together different Italian drug
discovery oriented organizations, along with testimonials of
the most successful implementations of novel paradigms
of Drug Discovery and Development, with specific focus
on rare diseases and orphan drugs.
