Z2O Galleria l Sara Zanin PIER PAOLO CALZOLARI & MARCO MARIA GIUSEPPE SCIFO EntreNous September 25th – November 10th, 2014 opening: september 25th, h. 6-9 pm via della Vetrina 21, Roma Z2O Galleria | Sara Zanin is pleased to present EntreNous, an exhibition by PIER PAOLO CALZOLARI and MARCO MARIA GIUSEPPE SCIFO. The exhibition inaugurates a variety of pieces by two artists of different generations, within the same gallery space. It encourages the careful examination of the practical, poetical and stylistic consonances and dissonances, in order to highlight not only the similarities but also the uniqueness of each piece. The works displayed will serve to construct a physical and mental place within the gallery, a version of reality filtered by thought and defined by a bond between work, time and ambience, and it is this which forms a relationship with the viewer. Untitled (2010) by Pier Paolo Calzolari, is part of a series of “material sculptures” that carry with them the stories of their creation. The sculpture is conceived as a living organism, a choir of heterogeneous elements strongly evoking both a dialogue and transformation of the space. The artist uses a wide range of simple materials, both living (lead, iron, wood, copper, ice and majolica) and dead (burnt wood): these organic and inorganic elements, which come from separate environments, form the uniqueness of the artist’s research which“articulates the spectrum of poetic references as a vocabulary of real language, able to transcend time of history, experience and expression”. (Denys Zacharopoulos). The artwork represents a confused reality in which the work has been extended to an infinite present, removed from the flow of the story. By suspending time, Calzolari takes the viewer to another dimension, in which the objects are superimposed with a delicate and silent poetry. Marco Scifo focuses on human presence-sparked by several previous studies regarding the amount of physical space occupied by the body-which becomes an instrument of measure of space. In Pneuma the focal point of this research is the movement from the macro to micro relationship between the body and the mind: the breathing pattern creates the work’s rhythm. The decision to represent the concept of thought as an action tied to the body-such as breathing-which by its very nature represents the antithesis of the universe of the mind transcending any connection with the matter, residesin the absolute necessity of contamination between the body and the mind. In the exhibition space the work is composed of two elements: the full size portrait of Plato made of black rubber and a pump, which inflates the philosopher's head repeatedly. In Pneuma time and its cyclical nature are reflected in the metaphor of the historical remnants, as an icon of time that traverses history and continues into the recent past, creating a connection between the past and present. The relationship between thought and life occupies the length of a single breath.
