Saipem is a large, international and one of the best balanced turnkey
contractors in the oil & gas industry. Saipem has a strong bias towards oil
and gas related activities in remote areas and deepwater and is a leader in
the provision of engineering, procurement, project management and
construction services with distinctive capabilities in the design and the
execution of large-scale offshore and onshore projects, and technological
competencies such as gas monetization and heavy oil exploitation.
Saipem is organised into two Business Units: Engineering & Construction
and Drilling. The Company enjoys a superior competitive position for the
provision of EPC/EPCI services to the oil industry with a particular focus
on the toughest and most technologically challenging projects. Its drilling
services continue to be distinctive, operating in many of the oil and gas
industrys hotspots, frequently in synergy with its E&C activities. Saipem is
a global contractor, with strong local presence in strategic and emerging
areas for the energy industry. The Company began operations in the
1950s, initially as a division within Eni, and then independently, becoming
definitively autonomous in 1969. Since 1984 Saipem has been listed on
Borsa Italiana (Italian Stock Exchange) and is 43% owned by Eni. Starting
from early 2000s, the Company reinforced its engineering & project
management capabilities to cope with the important market trend towards
large integrated EPCI and EPC projects: in 2002 Saipem acquires
Bouygues Offshore and in 2006 Snamprogetti. Saipem has recently
carried out an important investment programme started in 2006 aimed at
reinforcing and expanding its drilling and construction fleet and other
assets required by projects to back up the local content.
