Dear Parents,
The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that
stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature

Unfortunately, we have had to cut down one of the biggest trees in our school yard. The tree’s
branches were posing a danger risk as the tree was beginning to split. Trees in our yard provide not
only shade and beauty but a history and constancy of which we are proud. We say farewell to our
arbour neighbour.
Sinterklaas 2014
Sinterklaas is a traditional family event: a fairy
tale with theatrical elements that involves all
ages. It’s a joyous event, cherished by many and
drawing crowds of people in the Netherlands. In
Lagos too, we are really pleased with the number
of ticket sales and the number of volunteers who
have been helping organise this great event.
None of it is possible however, without the
generous support of our sponsors. We are
looking forward to celebrating with all of you on Sunday the 23rd. We start at 12 noon!

 The sun – please protect your children and yourself against the sun.

The parking – parking at Walter Carrington is not allowed. Please park at NAPEX.
Games – some parents are listed to volunteer for a timeslot during the games so
please check the list when you enter
Tickets – please bring your tickets
Today we all met one of the Black Peters, named Petronella. She ran onto the schoolyard
and after a morning swim in our swimming pool she came to share some news with us. The
message we received from Sinter Klaas was that all the Black Peters are very much into
sports so we really hope they can all make it here by Sunday!
Board Parent Meeting
A reminder about the Parent Board meeting on Tuesday at 08:00 pm - this will take place on
the school grounds in the Year 1 classroom.
IPC Units in Early Years
Green fingers, learning about how seeds grow, doing research on flowers, making
blossoming art works, designing your own garden… for many students in the Early Years of
Maximax, Reception and DS groep 1&2, the Flowers and Plants unit was a great experience
with a high learning curve. This week all students presented what they had learned and
experienced to their parents in a short
presentation.
The next IPC unit will be Sinter Kerst and
Sinterklaas/ Christmas during which the children
will learn about Sinterklaas and his Black Peters,
how Christmas is celebrated all over the world,
learn new holiday songs and carols and make
festive related arts and crafts. In each class we will
transform the role play corner to include a fireplace,
chimney, Christmas tree and decorations. The
children will also take part in all the special events
planned from now until Christmas.
Fire drill
This week Thursday, NISL held its first fire drill of the current school year to rehearse our
evacuation procedure in the event of a fire. The teachers and all the children evacuated the
building in under four minutes. We will schedule more drills in the coming months.

Class of the week- Groep 3/4
Dag allemaal,
Deze keer een bericht uit groep 3 /4 . Allereerst zijn we blij dat Annebelle weer terug is op
school. Het was natuurlijk al gezellig in de klas, maar nu is het nog leuker!
We zijn natuurlijk hard aan het werk in onze klas.
De kinderen van groep 3 hebben ondertussen alweer 23
letters geleerd. Dat gaat echt supersnel. We weten ook
welke letters van die letters klinkers en medeklinkers zijn.
Ook leren we woorden met dubbele - en lange klanken.
Verder leren we die
letters ook nog
schrijven .
Met rekenen zijn we bezig met sommen tot en met 12
We leren bij het rekenthema “op de markt” groente
en fruit te verdelen of te berekenen hoeveel appels er
overblijven als de groenteboer er van de 9 appels 4
verkoopt.
In groep 4 wordt ook goed gewerkt. Met taal
leerden we al over lidwoorden, zelfstandige
naamwoorden en bijvoegelijke naamwoorden. En
ja, we kunnen ze aanwijzen maar ook benoemen.
Met rekenen zijn we druk bezig met oefenen hoe
we door het tiental heen kunnen rekenen.
Bijvoorbeeld met de som 14 – 8. Dat is niet
gemakkelijk maar het gaat steeds beter. Spelling
gaat in de groep best goed. We weten prima welke
woorden we met een ‘s of een z’ of een ‘v of een f’ moeten schrijven .
Verder gaan we 4 keer per week naar de klas van juf Pam. Daar doen we
IPC samen met onze vrienden van de English stream. We doen daar heel
leuke dingen. Het thema is “feest” dus dat zit wel goed. We hebben
bijvoorbeeld dia’s gemaakt voor Diwali, een Nigeriaans stofpatroon
ontworpen en hele mooie maskers gemaakt. Ook nu zijn we met iets
heel leuks bezig maar dat houden we nog even geheim.Dat is de
verrassing voor het eindpunt van het thema.
Jullie hebben vast wel gemerkt hoe hard we werken en hoe goed we bezig zijn. Daar zijn we
best trots op en juf Arline al helemaal.
