The eXceL has the option to save and export notes in PDF files. In order to use this function, you
must have the latest firmware update installed (firmware version with Build number ending on
80723 or higher). You can check the firmware version by going to the Settings menu and then
selecting About and then About device. You find the build version at the bottom of the screen.
If your firmware is older, you need to upgrade following the instructions you can find on
www.icarusreader.com
How to export notes in PDF files?
1. In order to use this function, you need to use the NeoReader PDF reader to open a PDF
file. By default this PDF reader is not used.
In order to set-up the eXceL so that NeoReader is used by default for PDF files, do the
following:
2. Go to the Library
3. Using the navigation stick (so not the stylus) go to a PDF file
4. Press the Menu icon in the top right corner of the screen
5. Select Open With
6. Check the box next to Set as default app
7. Press Onyx Neo Reader
8. Now you can open any PDF book and the correct PDF reader will be used from now on.
9. Make a note in the book as you desire
10. Press the Menu icon (top right of the screen) or touch the center of the bottom of the
screen with the stylus to open the Menu screen.
11. Press Notes
12. Press Export
13. This creates a copy of your PDF file that includes all notes and annotations

14. In order to find the book including your notes, connect the e-reader to your computer
15. Go to the removable drive E1051BK
16. Inside the books folder, a new folder is created with the name “book file.export”
17. Inside that folder the ebook is stored
18. Done!

De eXceL kan gemaakte aantekeningen en annotaties opslaan in een bestand en vervolgens
exporteren. Hierdoor kan het document incl. Aantekeningen op elk apparaat met PDF
ondersteuning gelezen worden. Deze functie is aanwezig in firmware vanaf versie 723.
U kunt de firmware versie vinden via Instellingen | Over | Over apparaat.
De onderste regel bevat de firmware versie. ‘Build nummer’ moet eindigen op 80723 of hoger.
Indien dit niet het geval is, dient u de firmware eerst te updaten. Volgt hiertoe de instructies
voor firmware upgrade die u op www.icarusreader.com vindt.
Hoe kunnen aantekeningen geexporteerd worden?
1. De eXceL kan twee zogenaamde PDF readers gebruiken om PDF bestanden weer te
geven. De standaardversie kan geen aantekening exporteren, de geavanceerde versie
wel. Eerst dient ingesteld worden, dat de geavanceerde versie standaard gebruikt
wordt. Doe hiertoe het volgende:
a. Open de Bibliotheek
b. Ga met de navigatieknop (niet met de stylus!) naar een PDF bestand om dit te
selecteren
c. Raak het menu icoon (rechtsboven in het scherm aan) en kies Openen met
d. U vind twee readers met de naam ICARUS Reader.
e. Vink eerst het vakje naast ‘Als standaard applicatie instellen’ aan
f. Raak nu met de stylus de onderste (tweede) ICARUS Reader aan
g. Vanaf nu zal voor PDF bestanden altijd de juiste PDF reader worden gebruikt,
met ondersteuning voor PDF export.

2. Om aantekeningen te exporteren doet u het volgende
a. Maak aantekeningen in het PDF bestand dat u aan het lezen bent
b. Open het pop-up menu middels het Menu icoon (rechtsboven op het scherm) of
alternatief : raak de onderkant van het scherm in het midden aan met de stylus
om het Menu te openen.
c. Selecteer Notities
d. Selecteer Exporteren. Het document wordt nu opgeslagen inclusief notities in
een export bestand
e. Om het bestand inclusief de notitites te vinden, verbindt u de e-reader met de
computer
f. Ga naar verwisselbare schijf E1051BK, dit is de interne opslag van de e-reader
g. Ga naar de map waar het originele boek is opgeslagen
h. In deze map is een nieuwe submap aangemaakt met de naam
“documentnaam.export”. Bijvoorbeeld als het bestand kafka.pdf heet, heet de
map kafka.pdf.export
i. Open die map en u vind het document inclusief aantekeningen
j. Dit bestand kunt u op elk apparaat met PDF ondersteuning bekijken
