melancholiek te mediteren
tussen de eikenbomen en Japanse slablad.
ll. De Begraafplaats van
Groenesteeg waan je je in
de 19e eeuw. Doe een
stapje terug, knijp je ogen dicht en hoor de geesten
met elkaar praten over de nieuwe spoorlijn naar Den
Haag en de liberaal Thorbecke.
lll. Gin-tonic drinken op de
Burcht, met een magisch
uitzicht over de oude stad.
Hier kan je je verstoppen
bij grote hitte.
lV. Poezie-wandeling over de Witte Singel om de
muurgedichten van Tagore
en anderen te lezen.
V. Het Meermanshof
Het mooiste en grootste
hofje van Leiden waar ik
vijf jaar heb gewoond.

In deze route komt u langs verschillende
muurgedichten. Het project 'Gedichten op
Muren' omvat totaal 101 muurgedichten.
U begint bij de 1. Morspoort, waar u
tevens kunt parkeren met de auto. Via de
brug over het Galgewater komt u bij de
2. Rembrandtplaats. Rembrandt van Rijn
werd geboren in de Weddesteeg. Aan het
einde van de straat, links, komt u het eerste 3. muurgedicht tegen. Loop vervolgens
via de Rembrandtstraat en Groenhazengracht naar het Rapenburg voor het
volgende 4. muurgedicht en loop door naar
het 5. Van der Werfpark. Hier kunt u even
uitrusten om vervolgens de wandelroute
te vervolgen. Loop via het Gangetje naar
de Nieuwe Rijn en u komt langs 6. Van
Manen aan Tafel, 7. Anne & Max en 8.
BABOOKA bookstore. Na het 9. muurgedicht
komt u bij het 10. Sint Annahofje. Loop
door richting de Hooglandse Kerk naar
11. Restaurant de Branderij en andere
12.,13. muurgedichten. Als u aan het
einde van de weg nog een stukje naar
rechts gaat vindt u catering 14. Catootje.
Neem de weg naar links en u komt langs

een 15. muurgedicht aan de Hooglandse Kerkgracht en 16. Galerie
Zône. Galerie Zône is een initiatief
van kunstenaars en vormgevers. U
kunt ook even langs 17. BplusC,
de bibliotheek en het centrum voor
Kunst & Cultuur. Langs de Nieuwe
Rijn zijn cafés/restaurants te vinden,
zoals 18. Einstein, de
19. Stadthouder en 20. Annies.
21. Borg & Daphne Sieraden en
22. Entresol zijn ook zeker een
bezoekje waard. Steek over naar de
Vismarkt en u komt uiteindelijk bij
23. Lunchroom ROOS waar in het
steegje nog een 24. muurgedicht zit.
In de Zonneveldstraat vindt u ook
twee 25.,26. muurgedichten. Sla
rechtsaf richting de 27. Pieterskerk.
Hier vindt u tevens de historische
boekenhandel 28. Burgersdijk & Niemans. In de Pieterskerk-Choorsteeg
kunt u lekker slenteren en u laten
verrassen door kleine boetiekjes, zoals 29. Atelier & Galerie Isabella Riffon of 30. Zilverling. Vervolgens loopt
u langs het restaurant 31. NOROC en
het 32. Jean Michelhofje naar de
33. Latijnse school, waar Rembrandt
les kreeg. Loop via het Rapenburg
langs het laatste 34. muurgedicht
en het 35. Academiegebouw van
Universiteit Leiden. Bij de l. Hortus
botanicus en 37. Sterrewacht kunt u
zich nog urenlang vermaken bij de
wetenschappelijke plantencollectie
en het bestuderen van sterren en
andere hemellichamen.
You start at the 1. Morspoort, where
you can also park your car. Take the
bridge over the Galgewater and you
will arrive at 2. Rembrandtplaats.
Rembrandt van Rijn was born in
the Weddesteeg. At the end of the
road, on the left, you will come to
the first 3. Muurgedicht (wall poem).
Then walk via the Rembrandtstraat
and Groenhazengracht towards
the Rapenburg for the next 4. Wall
poem, and carry on to the 5. Van
der Werfpark, a good place to take a
relaxing break before continuing your

walk. Continue via the Gangetje to
the Nieuwe Rijn and you will pass
6. Van Manen aan Tafel, 7. Anne &
Max and 8. BABOOKA bookstore. After
the 9. Wall poem you will come to
the 10. Sint Annahofje. ‘Hofjes’ are
traditional Dutch almshouses. Carry
on in the direction of the Hooglandse
Kerk to 11. Restaurant de Branderij
and more 12.,13. Wall poems. If you
continue a short distance at the end
of the street, you will find a catering,
14. Catootje. Take the street to the
left and you will find another 15.
Wall poem along the Hooglandse
Kerkgracht as well as 16. Galerie
Zone, an initiative of several artists
and designers. You can also call in
at 17. BplusC, the library and the
centre for Art and Culture. There
are several cafés/restaurants along
the Nieuwe Rijn, including 18.
Einstein, the 19. Stadthouder and
20. Annie’s. 21. Borg & Daphne
Sieraden and 22. Entresol are two
jewellery shops that are well worth a
visit. Cross over to the Vismarkt (the
old fish market) and you will reach

the narrow street next to Roos. There

the Zonneveldstraat. Turn right in
the direction of the 27. Pieterskerk.
Here you will find antiquarian book
shop 28. Burgersdijk & Niemans.In
the Pieterskerk-Choorsteeg you can
visit 29. Atelier & Galerie ‘Isabelle
Riffon’ or the 30. Zilverling. You will
then come to 31. NOROC and the
32. Jean Michelhofje, and finally the
33. Latijnse school, where Rembrandt was taught. Walk back via the
Rapenburg past the last 34. Wall
poem and the 35. Leiden University
Academy Building. You can spend
some pleasant hours at the 36.
Hortus botanicus (Botanical Garden)
and the 37. Sterrewacht (Leiden
Observatory) , enjoying the scientific
plant collection and studying the
stars and other heavenly bodies.
