In 1614 opende Zweden in Nederland zijn eerste ambassade
ter wereld. Een goede reden om dat 400 jaar later te
vieren, vooral in onze internationale stad Den Haag. We
hopen dat u dit met ons meeviert bij een van onze speciale
jubileumprogramma’s!
In 1614 Sweden opened its first embassy in the world in
the Netherlands. Now 400 years later this is a cause for
celebration in our international city of The Hague. We are
hoping that you will join in the celebrations at one of our
special jubilee festive programmes!
Het Lucent Danstheater en de Dr Anton Philipszaal organiseren
in oktober een Zweedse Maand. Vier grote producties van
internationaal toonaangevende gezelschappen vormen het hart
van het programma, stuk voor stuk Nederlandse premières. Maar
er is meer. Bij onze partners Paard van Troje, New European
Ensemble en de festivals TodaysArt, De Betovering en Rewire
kunt u terecht voor popmuziek, contemporary art, nieuwe
muziek en jeugdtheater. Kwaliteit en innovatie zijn de kenmerken
van de Zweedse podiumkunst. Wij nodigen u graag uit daarmee
kennis te komen maken.
The Lucent Danstheater and the Dr Anton Philipszaal will
be organising a Swedish month in October. The core of the
programme is four major productions by international leading
theatre companies, all of them premiering in the Netherlands.
But there is more. Our partners Paard van Troje, New European
Ensemble and the festivals TodaysArt, De Betovering and Rewire
will offer you pop music, contemporary art, new music and youth
theatre. Quality and innovation are the characteristics of
Swedish stagecraft. We are pleased to present you with a range
of performances and events.

Het is een van de oudste actieve orkesten ter wereld, de Royal Swedish
Opera Orchestra. Opgericht in 1526 als orkest van het Zweedse hof is
het sinds 1773 huisgezelschap van de Koninklijke Zweedse Opera. Onder
leiding van zijn Nederlandse chef-dirigent Lawrence Renes komt het
orkest voor het eerst naar Nederland, met een majestueus Wagner
programma. De Zweedse operaster Iréne Theorin zingt Isolde. Verder
staat Wagner’s Ring in de monumentale orkestversie van De Vlieger op
het programma.
The Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra is one of the longest existing
orchestras in the world. It was setup in 1526 as the Royal Swedish
orchestra and has been the main orchestra of the Royal Swedish
Opera since 1773. Under the management of its Dutch chief conductor
Lawrence Renes the orchestra will make its debut in the Netherlands with
a majestic Wagner programme. The Swedish opera star Iréne Theorin will
be singing Isolde. The programme also features Wagner’s Ring Cycle in the
monumental orchestral version by Henk de Vlieger.

In Mats Eks Sleeping Beauty gaat de verwende Aurora op zoek naar
spanning in haar leven. Die vindt ze wanneer ze verliefd wordt op
een junk. Eks opmerkelijke bewerking van Prinses Aurora’s odyssee is
ontwrichtend, komisch en diep ontroerend.
In choreographer Mats Ek’s version of Sleeping Beauty the spoiled
Aurora is looking for excitement in life which she finds when falling in love
with a junkie. Ek’s remarkable adaptation of Princess Aurora’s odyssey is
heart-wrenching, comic and deeply moving.

Cirkus Cirkör is een woordspeling van de franse woorden ‘Cirque’
en ‘Coeur’, circus en hart. Het gezelschap, dat in 1997 de eerste
moderne circus-opleiding in Scandinavië oprichtte, behoort tot de
internationale top van het ‘nieuwe circus’, waarvan Cirque du Soleil het
bekendste voorbeeld is: geen dieren, maar volop aandacht voor theater,
adembenemende acts en een vaak sprookjesachtige aankleding.
Cirkus Cirkör is a word-play of the French words ‘Cirque’ and ‘Coeur’,
circus and heart. The company, that founded the first modern circus
school in Scandinavia in 1997, is among the international top of
‘contemporary circus’ theatre companies, of which Cirque du Soleil is the
best known example: instead of using animals all energy is spent on doing
theatre performances and breathtaking acts with often fairytale-like
decors.
Knitting Peace is zo’n poëtische circusvoorstelling. Vijf circusartiesten
creëren een magische wereld van touw, meeslepende muziek, gevoelige
poëzie en verbazingwekkende circusnummers. Prachtig circustheater
voor jong en oud.
KnittingPeace is an example of such a poetic circus performance. Five
circus performers create a magical world of ropes, moving music, tender
poetry and jaw-dropping circus acts. This is a magnificent circus theatre
performance for young and old.

Spirit
Het dansgezelschap van de Götenburg Opera behoort sinds een aantal
jaren tot de belangrijkste van Europa. Dat blijkt onder meer uit de keuze
van de choreografen, die stuk voor stuk behoren tot de internationale
voorhoede. Voor Spirit maakten de Vlaams-Marokkaanse choreograaf Sidi
Larbi Cherkaoui en de Japanse alleskunner Saburo Teshigawara nieuwe
stukken.
Sidi Larbi maakte Noetic voor zestien dansers, een zangeres en een
Japanse drummer. Een spectaculair stuk, schitterend aangekleed door de
Belgische modeontwerpers Les Hommes (Tom Notte en Bart Vandebosch).
Metamorphosis van Teshigawara op muziek van Durufle en Ravel is
donkerder van toon, maar door de interactie van de 12 dansers met de
door de choreograaf zelf ontworpen objecten bijzonder indrukwekkend.

The dance company of the Gothenburg Opera has for a number of
years been one of the most important companies in Europe. This is
evident from the choice of choreographers, all of which belong to the
international forefront. For Spirit the Flemish-Moroccan choreographer
Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Japanese all-rounder Saburo Teshigawara wrote
new pieces.
Sidi Larbi created Noetic for sixteen dancers, a singer and a Japanese
drummer. A spectacular piece, beautifully decorated by the Belgian
designers Les Hommes (Tom Notte and Bart Vandebosch). Metamorphosis
by Teshigawara using music by Duruflé and Ravel is darker in tone, but
particularly impressive by the interaction between the 12 dancers with
objects designed by the choreographer himself.
