FR Le musicien et compositeur italien Antonio Castrignanò est originaire de la région des Pouilles, le
talon de la botte italienne. Joueur de tambourin, chanteur enraciné dans la culture musicale de Salento,
sa musique est un mélange d’énergie brute et de pure émotion, passant des chants doux aux rythmes
explosifs de la pizzica tarantata. L’Amérique de l’esclavage avait le Blues comme expression pour sa
douleur, les jeunes des ghettos urbains parlent de malchance et de rage aux battements du rap, les gens
de Salento quant à eux expriment leurs sentiments et leurs passions aux rythmes des tambourins, en
dansant la pizzica, afin d’atteindre la transe.
Antonio est devenu auprès des gens de Salento l’ambassadeur de leur tradition musicale. Il a collaboré
en tant que chanteur et percussionniste avec l'Ensemble Notte della Taranta et a partagé la scène avec de
grands artistes tels que Stewart Copeland (The Police), Mauro Pagani, Trilok Gurtu, Negramaro,
Ludovico Einaudi et Vinicio Capossela. Il a joué avec son propre ensemble dans de nombreux pays tels
que les États-Unis, la Chine, l’Inde, la Jordanie, la France, l'Irlande, le Portugal, l'Espagne, la Grèce, la
Bulgarie, l'Allemagne ou encore l'Autriche. Il a composé la bande originale du film Golden Door,
réalisé par Emanuele Crialese (Lion d'Argent - Festival de Venise 2006).
A l’occasion du Brosella, Castrignanò présentera son tout nouvel album Fomenta (Ponderosa 2014).
Cet album, produit par le Dj turc Mercan Dede, est une nouvelle étape cruciale dans sa carrière : un
mélange de musique traditionnelle de Salento, de groove derviche et de sons électroniques.

NL De Italiaanse muzikant en componist Antonio Castrignanò is afkomstig van de regio Puglia, de
hak van de Italiaanse laars. Deze zanger en tamboerijnspeler is geworteld in de muziekcultuur van
Salento: een combinatie van rauwe energie en pure emotie gaande van zachte melodieuze gezangen tot
de explosieve opzwepende ritmes van de Pizzica Tarantata. Zoals de slavernij in Amerika de blues
gebruikte om leed uit te drukken en de jongeren uit de getto’s over tegenslagen en woede praten op de
ritmes van rap, drukken de Salentijnen van oudsher hun gevoelens en passie uit door op de tamboerijn
te slaan tijdens het dansen van pizzica en zo in trance te raken.
Antonio is uitgegroeid tot een waar symbool van de muziek voor de mensen van Salento. Hij heeft als
zanger en percussionist samengewerkt met het Notte della Taranta Ensemble en het podium gedeeld met
tal van belangrijke artiesten zoals Stewart Copeland (The Police), Mauro Pagani, Trilok Gurtu,
Negramaro, Ludovico Einaudi en Vinicio Capossela. Met zijn eigen groep speelde hij in vele landen
zoals de Verenigde Staten, China, India, Jordanië, Frankrijk, Ierland, Portugal, Spanje, Griekenland,
Bulgarije, Duitsland en Oostenrijk. Hij componeerde de soundtrack van de film Golden Door,
geregisseerd door Emanuale Crialese (Zilveren Leeuw - Filmfestival van Venetië 2006).
Op Brosella presenteert Adrianio zijn nieuwste album Fomenta (Ponderosa 2014). Dit project,
geproduceerd door de Turkse Dj Mercan Dede, is een cruciale nieuwe stap in zijn carrière. Het is een
mix van traditionele muziek van Salento, derwisjen grooves en elektronische geluiden.
EN The Italian musician and composer Antonio Castrignanò comes from the Puglia region, at the
heel of Italy’s boot. He is a singer and tambourine player rooted in Salento’s musical culture, combining
raw energy and pure emotion while moving from gentle chanting to the explosive rhythm of the Pizzica
Tarantata. If American slavery used the Blues as an expression for its pain, if the youth from urban
ghettos talk about bad luck and rage on the beat of rap, then the people of Salento express their feelings
and passions on the rhythm of the tambourines and by dancing the pizzica and passing into a trance.
Antonio has become a true musical symbol among the people of Salento. The main voice and
tambourine player of the Notte della Taranta Ensemble, he has performed, collaborated and shared the
stage with many important artists such as Stewart Copeland (The Police), Mauro Pagani, Trilok Gurtu,
Negramaro, Ludovico Einaudi andVinicio Capossela. He has performed live with his own ensemble in
the USA, China, India, Jordan, France, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, Germany and

BROSELLA project: ‘ZEET EE DEN OURLOG’
NL Emballage Kado presenteert ‘Zeet ee den Ourlog’, een Brosella project geïnspireerd op het
boek ‘De Grooten Oorlog in Brusselse straatliedjes uit 1914-1918’, geschreven door Guy Janssens,
hoogleraar historische taalkunde van het Nederlands aan de Luikse universiteit. Het boekje belicht de
Grote Oorlog vanuit een erg originele invalshoek, nl. de oorlogs-en bezettingsliedjes die toen gezongen
werden door het gewone volk in Brussel. De liedjes zijn zowel in het Nederlands, het Frans als het
plaatselijk Brusselse dialect. Guy Janssens rondt af met herinneringen aan de liedjes die zijn
grootmoeder altijd voor hem zong. Zijn studie is zeker een belangrijke bijdrage aan het
documentenarchief over en van de grote oorlog.
Emballage Kado heeft voor dit programma een selectie gemaakt van negen liederen uit het geciteerde
boek, aangevuld met een drietal andere nummers die de inhoud versterken. Alle nummers werden
tekstueel aangepast op basis van het eigentijds Brussels dialect, de zingbaarheid en begrijpbaarheid. De
teksten werden op hun ‘universeel Brussels’ nagelezen en grammaticaal aangepast door een aantal
dialectspecialisten van be.Brusseleir, de Brusselse dialectvereniging. Er werd gestreefd naar coherentie
in de muzikale aanpak waarbij populaire straatmuziek de leidraad is.
Emballage Kado heeft voor de uitvoering van de liedjes een beroep gedaan op gastartiesten waaronder
Otto Kint, een jonge getalenteerde bassist, betrokken bij tal van muzikale projecten in heel Vlaanderen
en de zangeres Veerle Slootmans (lGeneration 5, Skangoeroes). Acteur Marc Bober zal de liedjes op
gepaste wijze aan mekaar rijgen. Er wordt gerepeteerd in het Gemeenschapscentrum De Kroon te SintAgatha-Berchem. De twaalf liedjes worden opgenomen in de professionele Zennestudio van Zinnemna.
Het album zal na Brosella, samen met het door Acco heruitgegeven boek, in alle goede boekhandels te
vinden zijn (of via Brosella bestellen).

EN Emballage Kado will present ‘Zeet ee den Ourlog’, a Brosella project inspired by the book 'De
Grooten Oorlog in Brusselse straatliedjes uit 1914-1918', (The Great War in Brussels Street Songs from
1914-1918) written by Guy Janssens, Professor in Dutch Philology at the University of Liège. The book
highlights the First World War by a very original approach, through the songs sung by the working
class in Brussels during that war and occupation. The songs are written in Dutch, French and Brussels
dialects. Guy Janssens concludes his book with memories of his childhood with his grandmother and
her precious songs. His study is certainly an important contribution to the archive and history.
Emballage Kado has made a selection of nine songs from the book, together with three other songs that
complement these. All the songs were adapted lyrically based on contemporary Brussels dialect, singing
ability and comprehensibility. The texts were grammatically revised, based on the 'universal Brussels
dialect' by some dialect specialists of the Brussels dialect association be.Brusseleir. In the musical
arrangements, Emballage Kado tried to use popular street music as a common theme.
For the arrangements of the songs, Emballage Kado has approached different artists including the
young bassist Otto Kint, who already participated in several musical projects in Flanders, and singer
Veerle Slootmans (LGeneration 5 Skangoeroes). They also called the actor Marc Bober who will link
the songs with an appropriate thread. The rehearsals are held at the community center De Kroon in
Berchem-Sainte-Agathe. The twelve songs will be recorded at Zenne, the professional studio of
Zinnemna. The album, along with a reissue of the book by the publishing house Acco, will be available
after the Brosella festival in all good bookstores. (or via Brosella).
FR Emballage Kado présente ‘Zeet ee den Ourlog’, un projet Brosella inspiré du livre ‘De Grooten
Oorlog in Brusselse straatliedjes uit 1914-1918’ écrit par Guy Janssens, professeur de philologie
historique néerlandaise à l'Université de Liège. Le livre met en lumière la Grande Guerre via une
approche très originale, à savoir les chansons interprétées pendant la guerre et l'occupation par les
simples citoyens bruxellois. Les chansons sont écrites en néerlandais, en français et en dialecte
bruxellois. Guy Janssens conclut son livre en racontant ses souvenirs d’enfance, lorsque sa grand-mère
lui chantait des chansons. Son étude est certainement une importante contribution à la connaissance de
la vie quotidienne pendant la guerre 14-18.
Emballage Kado a sélectionné neuf chansons de l'ouvrage précité ainsi que trois autres qui s’intègrent
bien dans le projet. Les textes ont été adaptés en fonction du dialecte bruxellois actuel ainsi qu’en
fonction de leur capacité à être chantés et compris. Les textes ont été relus en prenant le ‘Bruxellois
universel’ comme base de référence et corrigés grammaticalement par quelques spécialistes du dialecte
de be.Brusseleir, association du dialecte bruxellois. Le groupe s’est efforcé de trouver une cohérence
musicale, avec comme fil rouge, la musique populaire de la rue.
Pour la mise en œuvre des chansons, Emballage Kado a fait appel à quelques artistes invités tels que :
Otto Kint, jeune bassiste talentueux qui a participé à de nombreux projets musicaux en Flandre et la
chanteuse Veerle Slootmans (lGeneration 5, Skangoeroes). L’acteur Marc Bober assurera la liaison
entre les chansons par un fil conducteur approprié. Les répétitions ont lieu au centre communautaire De
Kroon à Berchem-Sainte-Agathe. L’enregistrement des douze chansons se déroulera au studio
professionnel Zenne de Zinnemna. L'album, accompagné d’une réédition du livre par la maison
d’édition Acco, sera disponible après le festival Brosella dans toutes les bonnes librairies (ou via
Brosella).

EN Aranis, year 2014: a Belgian band bringing something well off the beaten track!
After the huge success of their last album Made in Belgium (2012) - on which Aranis played for the
first time compositions of other Belgian composers, open-minded to musical cross-pollination, - the
group has embarked on a similar new project.
The second installment in their ‘Made In Belgium’ series is now on the road... and it is more captivating
than a thriller!
It is a subtle blend of rejuvenated classical influences mixed with a touch of drumless and clarinetless
Balkanic klezmer-punk, a glimpse of 100% Brussels-deserts tango and a few improvised moments that
manage to never really sound like ‘jazz’...
No easy label comes to mind when it comes to describe Aranis' sound... and so it should be! A pretty
unpredictable sextet... Classical? Jazz? Folk? Rock? ... Well, a little bit of all this... That's what you'll
taste in the Aranis pizza! (With real chunks of Peter Vermeersch (FES), Koen van Roy (Cro Magnon),
Walter Hus (Maximalist!), Ananta Roosens (La sieste du dromadaire), Joris Vanvinckenroye (BASta!),
Jan Kuijken (Louis Avenue), Aurélie Dorzée (Aurélia) and many others).
Aranis will present this special public preview at the festival surrounded for the occasion by seventeen
talented young musicians, students of the Kunsthumaniora Brussel and their three teachers: two
clarinetists, a violist, a flutist, six saxophonists (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone), a bassist, a euphist,
two trombonists, a trumpeter, a harpist and a drummer.

FR Aranis, an de grâce 2014: un groupe belge qui sort de l'ordinaire!
Après le succès de leur dernier album Made in Belgium (2012), dans lequel Aranis interprète les
compositions de compositeurs belges qui ne craignent pas les échanges musicaux, le groupe se lance à
nouveau dans un projet similaire. Leur nouveau projet ‘Made in Belgium II’ est plus captivant qu'un
film.
La musique classique s'en trouve dépoussiérée et rajeunie. S'y mêlent, dans le désordre et entre autres
choses, un soupçon de kletzmer punk balkanique (mais sans batterie ni clarinette), un zeste de tango des
grandes étendues bruxelloises et quelques envols improvisés, sans jamais être totalement jazzy... Bref,
aucune étiquette ne suffit à décrire la musique d'Aranis ... et c'est bien comme ça! Ce sextet n'en fait
qu'à sa tête... Classique? Jazz? Folk? Rock?... Autant d'ingrédients qui trouveront sans peine leur place
dans le puzzle musical d’Aranis! Avec des compositions de Peter Vermeersch (FES), Koen van Roy
(Cro Magnon), Walter Hus (Maximalist!), Ananta Roosens (La sieste du dromadaire), Joris
Vanvinckenroye (BASta!), Jan Kuijken (Louis Avenue), Aurélie Dorzée (Aurélia) et bien d'autres.
Aranis présentera cette explosion musicale en avant-première et en exclusivité au festival, entouré pour
l’occasion par dix-sept jeunes et talentueux musiciens, élèves à la Kunsthumaniora Brussel et trois de

NL Aranis anno 2014: een Belgische groep met een hoek af!
Op hun laatste album Made in Belgium (2012) speelt Aranis de werken van vele Belgische
componisten, die zelf niet bang zijn van enige muzikale kruisbestuiving. Gezien het succes van deze
CD, stort de groep zich in een soortgelijk project. 'Made in Belgium II' is spannender dan een film.
Ze stoffen de klassieke muziek verder af, brengen balkanklezmerpunk zonder drums of klarinet, hete
woestijntango uit Brussel én improviseren zonder moeilijkdoenerij! Geen enkele stijl kan het aan de
muziek van Aranis te omschrijven. En dat is prima! Deze zes-koppige eigenzinnigheid is jullie lekker te
slim af... Klassiek? Jazz? Folk? Rock?... Allemaal goede ingrediënten voor op de muzikale Aranispizza. De composities zijn van Peter Vermeersch (FES), Koen van Roy (Cro Magnon), Walter Hus
(Maximalist!), Ananta Roosens (La sieste du dromadaire), Joris Vanvinckenroye (BASta!), Jan Kuijken
(Louis Avenue), Aurélie Dorzée (Aurélia) en anderen.

FR ‘Kali City’, Karim Baggili en rêvait depuis longtemps. Avec ce tout nouvel album, il délaisse sa
guitare pour saisir son oud. Un luth indissociable d'une musique arabe que l'artiste a toujours portée
dans son cœur et à laquelle il rend hommage.
‘Elle me berce, me transperce, je l'adore’, résume-t-il. Entouré de son ‘Arabic Band’ et de ses
instruments traditionnels (kawala, oud, darbouka...), Karim Baggili invitera au voyage vers l'Est, en
Jordanie dont il garde tant de souvenirs.
Sans pour autant se contenter de proposer des airs traditionnels, il ouvre la porte à des compositions
modernes et décalées, s'inspirant de ce qui fait son identité, y ajoutant des notes personnelles, pour, in
fine, rappeler que la musique peut et doit parfois dépasser les frontières afin de procurer d'autres
sensations et d’ouvrir des horizons.
Accompagné de son Arabic Band, Karim nous propose un album varié où les morceaux de musique
rapides, dynamiques et entraînants alternent avec des morceaux plus lents, sensibles et profonds.

NL Karim Baggili bracht een schitterende CD uit: Kali City. Met dit nieuw project verlaat hij zijn
gitaar voor de oud. De luit is onafscheidelijk van de Arabische muziek die hij altijd heeft gekoesterd en
waaraan hij als geen ander een eerbetoon brengt.
‘Het wiegt me, doorboort me, ik ben er gek van’ zegt hij. Omringd door zijn ‘Arabic Band’ en zijn
traditionele instrumenten (kawala, oud, darbouka, …), neemt Karim Baggili je mee naar het Oosten en
zijn geliefde Jordanië waaraan hij zo veel mooie herinneringen heeft.
Karim Baggili geeft de traditionele melodieën een andere wending. Hij opent de deur naar nieuwe,
moderne composities, geïnspireerd door zijn eigen identiteit. Hij voegt er een persoonlijke interpretatie
aan toe die je eraan herinnert dat de muziek grensoverschrijdend kan en moet werken, dat ze nieuwe
gevoelens losweekt en helpt om je eigen horizon te verbreden.
Samen met zijn Arabic Band stelt Karim ons een fraai gevarieerd album voor waar snelle, dynamische

NL De moderne Ladino diva
Mor Karbasi, de nieuwe diva van de Sefardische muziek, brengt haar repertoire met een prachtig
vibrato. Ze zingt in het Ladino, de taal van de Sefardische Joden die aan het einde van de XVde eeuw
uit Andalusië werden verdreven. Een gedwongen ballingschap voor al degenen die weigerden zich tot
het katholicisme te bekeren. Haar roots zitten diep in de Joodse, Marokkaanse en Iraanse cultuur, maar
ze combineert Spaanse Flamenco ritmes met haar eigen muziek. Ze heeft een heel bijzonder charisma.
Dat zorgt ervoor dat haar interpretaties ontroerend en rauw overkomen. Met haar vernieuwende aanpak,

heldin, Sol Hatchuel, op zeventienjarige leeftijd onthoofd in 1834. Het verhaal luidt als volgt: na een
ruzie met haar moeder ging Sol naar haar islamitische vriendin en buurvrouw Tara. Tara's broer werd
verliefd op het meisje dat hem afwees. Uit wraak lanceerde hij het gerucht dat Sol zich uit liefde voor
hem tot de islam had bekeerd. Sol ontkende de beschuldiging en weigerde zich te bekeren.
Overeenkomstig de Marokkaanse wet van de XIXde eeuw werd ze ter dood veroordeeld en wegens
ketterij geëxecuteerd.
Mor Karbasi gooit alle registers open en herinnert ons aan de muzikale sfeer van het Iberische

Mor Karbasi personifies the new star of Sephardic music with a repertoire of fabulous vibrato sung in
Ladino, the language of Sephardi Jews who were expelled from Andalucía at the end of the XVth
century. It was a forced exile for all those who refused to convert to Catholicism. Her roots are deeply
buried in Jewish, Moroccan and Iranian culture but she infuses Spanish Flamenco rhythms to her
music. Her charisma is incredible, making her interpretations raw and moving. Her innovative
approach blends pop music with spiritual chants and has thrust her into the class of some of the best
divas. Inspired by centuries-old traditions, she has created a music that is both refined and brilliant. In
Ladino, in Hebrew and in Spanish, ... a sublime voice that goes through the ages and the
Mediterranean.

‘Daughter of the spring’ in 2011). La Tsadika ‘The Righteous’ is a tribute to a Moroccan Jewish
heroine, Sol Hatchuel, beheaded in 1834 at the age of seventeen. According to this legend, Sol went to
visit her Muslim friend and neighbour Tara after an argument with her mother. Tara’s brother fell in
love with her and, spurned, sought revenge. He started a rumour that Sol had converted to Islam out of
love for him. Confronted, she denied the rumour and refused to convert. Under XIXth century Moroccan
law, she was condemned to death and executed as a heretic.
Mor Karbasi manages to rise and to thrive in a register that reminds us of the musical atmosphere of
the Iberian Peninsula. La Tsadika reveals a charismatic artist with an emotion steeped in history ... self

juive marocaine, Sol Hatchuel, décapitée en 1834 à l'âge de 17 ans. L’histoire raconte que Sol est partie
rendre visite à son amie et voisine musulmane Tara suite à une dispute avec sa mère. Le frère de Tara
tombe amoureux de la jeune Sol qui le repousse. Par vengeance, il lance la rumeur selon laquelle Sol se
serait convertie à l'Islam par amour pour lui. Niant cette accusation et refusant de se convertir, Sol fut
condamnée à mort et exécutée pour hérésie conformément à la loi marocaine du XIXe siècle.
Sans se brûler les ailes, Mor Karbasi prend son envol, s'épanouit dans ces registres qui nous rappellent
les atmosphères musicales de la péninsule ibérique. La Tsadika nous révèle une artiste charismatique à

EN Basco began as an outlet for Hal's almost clinical need to make new violin tunes. At their first
appearance in 2003 at the Tønder Festival, Basco triggered fire and passion in Danish folk music. The
repertoire of this Danish-Swedish group floats between the Scandinavian, English, Celtic and American
traditional music, with lots of room for their own work.
The quartet has extended its line up with a horn section: Mads La Cour, Ulrik Kofoed and Jonathan
Ahlbom who (respectively) play with the ‘Danish Radio Big Band’, ‘The Danish Crown Prince's Brass
Band’ and the Scandinavian band ‘Tumel’. Together, they provide a powerful and explosive Big Basco
where folk, jazz and classical music come together in a magical mess to finally reveal wonderful
harmonious landscapes, riffs and very fresh music.
The band has gained much national recognition over the last two years. Hal was named ‘Folk Vocalist
of the Year’ at the 2012 Danish Music Awards for their second album ‘Big Basco’ that was also
awarded ‘Album of the Year' and 'Live Act of the Year’. Ale Carr was made ‘Folk Artist of the Year’ at
the 2013 Danish Music awards. More recently, the group has been nominated for the ‘Nordic Music
Prize 2014', which is a completely unheard of and astonishing thing to happen to a Danish folk band.
Basco is now ready for the second phase of its program: the conquest of the world.
The group has invited the wonderful Danish-Norwegian singer and harpist Julie Hjetland to join them,
a musician we already discovered at Brosella Folk & Jazz 2011 with the group Blink.

FR Le groupe Basco a vu le jour avec Hal et du besoin irrépressible de ce dernier de créer de
nouveaux airs de violon. Depuis leur première apparition en 2003 au Festival de Tønder, Basco
déclenche les passions parmi les amateurs de musique folklorique danoise. Le répertoire de cette
formation dano-suédoise oscille entre musique traditionnelle scandinave, anglaise, celtique, américaine
et comporte également de nombreuses compositions propres.
Le quartet a étendu son concept à une section de cuivres : Mads La Cour, Ulrik Kofoed et Jonathan

de Scandinavische, Engelse, Keltische en Amerikaanse traditionele muziek in, met flink wat ruimte voor
eigen werk.

NL De Klüvers Big Band is gedurende 35 jaar een institutie van het Deens muzikaal leven geweest.
Het orkest stond onder leiding van de onvermoeibare Jens Klüver en zijn onuitputtelijke geestdrift. Zijn
liefde voor de jazz en vooral de Amerikaanse traditie van de big band heeft een professionele formatie
van zeer hoog niveau tot stand gebracht. Tijdens het jazz Århus festival in 2012 nam Jens Klüver
afscheid van zijn band en overhandigde hij de teugels aan de internationaal vermaarde tenor saxofonist,
componist en dirigent Lars Møller. Het orkest kreeg toen ook meteen een andere naam: Aarhus Jazz
Orchestra.
Het AJO wordt erkend als een van de meest toonaangevende Scandinavische professionele big bands.
Het orkest bestaat uit enkele van de beste jazzmusici uit Denemarken (waaronder solisten van
internationale klasse). Het is vooral een team waarvan de collectieve energie en het talent aanwezig zijn
om de muziek te verheffen en nadrukkelijk te doen swingen. In 2011-2012 ging de band drie weken
toeren met de Amerikaanse zanger Kurt Elling, super jazz ster en winnaar van een Grammy Award. Ze

EN The Klüvers Big Band has been a Danish musical institution for almost 35 years and is led by the
indefatigable Jens Klüver with his inexhaustible enthusiasm. His love for jazz music and especially the
American tradition of big band has created a professional entity of the very highest level. During the
Aarhus Jazz Festival in 2012, conductor Jens Klüver took leave of his band, handing over the reins to
the world-renowned tenor saxophonist Lars Möller and changing the name of the orchestra to The
Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.
The AJO is one of Scandinavia’s leading professional big bands. The orchestra includes some of the
best jazz musicians from Denmark (many of whom are world-class soloists), but it is above all a team
whose collective energy and talent to enhance the music and to make it swing emphatically, are quite
stunning. In 2011-2012, the band went on a three week tour with the American jazz super star and
Grammy Award winner, vocalist Kurt Elling. They played with the icon of the guitar John Scofield and
his drummer Bill Stewart and presented several concerts with Jeff Ballard - the favourite drummer of
Chick Corea, pianist Lars Jansson and Bernard Fowler (Rolling Stones).
The repertoire has been mainly specially composed by the band and over the years, a large number of
soloists, composers and arrangers have put their heart and soul into the orchestra. Thad Jones, Clark

EN A key jazzman on the Belgian and international scene (collaborations with Randy Brecker - US,
Terence Blanchard - US, San Severino - FR, Safy Boutella - ALG, and many others), Belgian
saxophonist Fabrice Alleman has taken part in more than a 100 releases as either a leader or sideman.
He is also behind numerous personal projects like the Fabrice Alleman Quartet, Alleman-Loveri Duo,
Fabrice Alleman & strings. Awards include Best Jazz Album, Prix de la PAB and Sabam Jazz Award.
At Brosella, Fabrice Alleman will present his latest album ‘Obviously’ that once again confirms his
talents as a composer, improviser and melody writer. He has called in noted musicians for this project.
The pianist Nathalie Loriers, whose lyrical tone is already part of the history of Belgian jazz, enjoys an
international reputation through her own work and as the pianist in the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. AfricanAmerican bassist Reggie Washington has been a mainstay of high-level groups overseas. He was the
rhythm sections of Roy Hargrove, Branford Marsalis, Steps Ahead, Steve Coleman and Cassandra
Wilson. Unusually, Reggie Washington has put aside a technical demonstration in favour of music
designed for simplicity, listening and complete relaxation. Lionel Beuvens is currently one of
Belgium’s most in-demand drummers on the scene. He played with groups such as Cezariusz Gadzina
Quartet, aRTET, Nicolas Kummert Voices, Eve Beuvens Trio, etc. He also runs his own 'Lionel
Beuvens Quartet', which was recently selected as one of twelve flagships of the national jazz scene at
the Belgian Jazz Meeting.
The album consists of personal compositions that bring us to the limits of jazz and groove, by being
both modern and anchored in tradition. His fluid, almost instinctive writing leads to compositions that
come from the heart and beg the question: ‘What is obvious?’ ‘It’s all about jazz, not indifference…’.

Fabrice Alleman, heeft deelgenomen aan meer dan honderd platen als leader en sideman, heeft tal van
persoonlijke projecten ontwikkeld (waaronder Fabrice Alleman Quartet, Alleman-Loveri Duo, Fabrice
Alleman & string) en meerdere prijzen gewonnen (zoals Best Jazz Album, Prijs van de PAB en 'Sabam
Jazz Award').
Op Brosella presenteert Fabrice Alleman zijn nieuwste album ‘Obviously’, dat zijn talenten als
componist en improvisator eens te meer bevestigt. Voor dit nieuw album heeft Fabrice zich omringd
door een absolute topcast. De pianiste Nathalie Loriers, wiens lyrisme de geschiedenis van de
Belgische jazz reeds heeft gekenmerkt, geniet naast haar eigen werk ook internationale bekendheid als
vaste pianiste bij het Brussels Jazz Orchestra. De Afro-Amerikaanse bassist Reggie Washington is
actief geweest bij de meest illustere jazz grootheden zoals Roy Hargrove, Branford Marsalis, Steps
Ahead, Steve Coleman en Cassandra Wilson. In weerwil van het cliché, is Reggy’s stijl niet
demonstratief op technisch vlak. Muziek maken gaat voor hem gepaard met eenvoud, luisterbaarheid en
totale ontspanning. Lionel Beuvens is nog jong, maar toch reeds één van de meest gevraagde Belgische
drummers van vandaag. Hij speelt in groepen zoals Cezariusz Gadzina Quartet, aRTET, Nicolas
Kummert Voices, Eve Beuvens Trio, ... Ook leidt hij sinds kort zijn eigen Lionel Beuvens Quartet, dat
onlangs nog als één van de twaalf vaandeldragers van de nationale jazz scene werd geselecteerd voor de
Belgian Jazz Meeting.
Het album bestaat uit originele composities, zowel modern als verankerd in de traditie, die ons naar de
grenzen van jazz en groove meenemen. De composities van Fabrice Alleman werden geschreven op een

FR Le ‘Quarteto Afrocubano’ marque un retour aux sources pour le compositeur et pianiste cubain
Omar Sosa. On y retrouve les influences de ses années de formation passées à l'Escuela Nacional de
Música à La Havane et plus tard à l'Instituto Superior de Arte à La Havane, période pendant laquelle il
savourait la musique de Pancho Quinto, Lázaro Ross, Rubén González, Machito, Benny Moré ou encore
de Ismael Rivera.
Il s’embarque dans cette aventure, accompagné de trois artistes complices : son collaborateur de longue
date (2004), le bassiste du Mozambique Childo Tomas et ses deux compagnons cubains de Camagüey,
Ernesto Simpson (qui a partagé la scène avec Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Dizzy Gillespie,
Paquito D'Rivera, etc.) et Leandro Saint-Hill (qui a travaillé avec Tony Martinez, Hilton Ruiz et Chico
Freeman). Riche d’une même culture musicale, ses trois comparses sont à même d'utiliser leurs
traditions cubaines comme tremplin pour une meilleure liberté de création. Ils explorent les
interprétations contemporaines de styles musicaux cubains mondialement connus (Danzon, Cha-ChaCha, Bolero, Changui). Ils s’inspirent des puissantes traditions africaines de la santería, abakua, Makuta,
Nongo et Palo Monte. Il en résulte un voyage à travers leur vision personnelle dans les différentes
traditions afro-cubaines.

Omar Sosa. Het bevat invloeden van zijn vormingsjaren aan de Escuela Nacional de Música in Havana
en later aan het Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, toen hij naar de muziek van Pancho Quinto,
Lázaro Ross, Ruben González, Machito Benny More en Ismael Rivera luisterde.
Hij gooit zich in dit avontuur samen met drie muzikanten waarmee hij een hechte band heeft: zijn
medewerker sinds 2004, bassist Tomas Childo uit Mozambique en zijn twee Cubaanse metgezellen van
Camagüey, Ernesto Simpson (die het podium deelde met o.a. Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Dizzy

Joining him on this adventure are three musicians with whom, one way or another, Omar shares a very
close relationship: Mozambican bassist and longtime collaborator since 2004, Childo Tomas and his

Benson, Dizzy Gillespie and Paquito D’Rivera) and Leandro Saint-Hill (who has worked with Tony

same musical language, and who are able to use their Cuban traditions as a springboard for creative
freedom. Together, they explore contemporary interpretations of some of the classic Cuban musical
styles the world has come to enjoy (Danzón, Cha-Cha-Cha, Bolero, Changui). All of the material is
influenced by the powerful African traditions of Santería, Abakua, Makuta, Ñongo, and Palo Monte.
The result is a musical journey into the ensemble’s personal vision of various AfroCuban traditions.

NL De Belgische gitarist Bert Cools is nog jong wanneer hij zijn eigen groepen en projecten creëert:
Hoera., Merope, Book of Air, Pudding oO, JK’s Kamer. Hij is eveneens actief als sideman in
verschillende groepen (Fabrizio Cassol Birds Project, Bruno Vansina quintet and orchestra, Pomrad,
Bender Banjax, Hendrik Vanattenhoven quartet, Janos Bruneel Lingo quintet, chorale lituanienne
Jaunamusika, Sabrina Starke (Blue Note)).
Een van Bert’s grote dromen is om op een dag zijn trio Hoera. (Pracht - 2013) uit te breiden met enkele
prestigieuze gasten die hem bijzonder aan het hart liggen. Hij denkt dan vooral aan de Amerikaanse
violist, arrangeur en componist Eyvind Kang. Naast zijn eigen composities heeft Eyvind in
verschillende bands gespeeld zoals John Zorn, Mr Bungle, Sunn o))) en het Bill Frisell Quartet. Bert,
die het geheel van zijn werk bewondert, droomt er ook van om met de Nederlandse jazz pianist Harmen
Fraanje te mogen spelen. Harmen heeft gespeeld met een indrukwekkende lijst van muzikanten en
maakt deel uit van talrijke groepen (die van Eric Vloeimans, van de Amerikaanse saxofonist Michael
Moore of van Noorse bassist Mats Eilertsen). Hij creëerde eveneens zijn eigen groepen (zoals zijn trio
met cellist Ernst Reijseger en zanger en percussionist Mola Sylla). Om zijn 'dream team' te voltooien
valt Berts keuze op de Litouwse muzikante Indre Jurgeleviciute voor de perfecte beheersing van haar
prachtig snaarinstrument, de Kankles (Baltische luit) en haar stem.
Tot groot genoegen van Bert Cools zal zijn trio Hoera. uitgebreid worden tot een bijzonder sextet voor
één uniek optreden op Brosella. De combinatie van deze getalenteerde artiesten belooft een kleurrijk

EN DelVitaGroup likes crossover projects. With their new project, DelvitaGroup XL they combine
jazz music and classical music at a high level. The band has many excellent musicians of both jazz and
classical background as members. (BJO, Brussels Philarmonic, Framboise Frivole, the National
Belgium Orchestra, Royal Marine Band,...).
In 2010, the common interest of the five musicians in classical music stimulated them to find a way to
combine their knowledge and experience of jazz with the different influences of impressionist music. A
stimulating and innovative artistic project was born with their debut album 'Yip & Yang’. This album
features the quintet’s own compositions, music that has evolved over the years and with a strong stable
personality.
In order to combine the two styles of music as faithfully as possible, the musicians have also chosen to
expand their quintet with a classical wind ensemble of seven professional musicians. A musical first
well worthwhile.
A total of twelve professional musicians on stage will bring a tasteful symbiosis of jazz and Belgian preromantic and impressionistic music by Joseph Jongen, Lodewijk Mortelmans and Flor Peeters. A
concept, surprisingly accessible for lovers of both classical and jazz music, and this unique approach
brings both together to create new tones and instrumental combinations, characterized by a distinct and
unique sound. The arrangements are from the DelVitaGroup itself as well as from arrangers of
international renown such as Carlos Azevedo (Portugal), Joppe Bestevaar and Lode Mertens (Belgium).

FR Les membres de DelVitaGroup n’hésitent pas à s’attaquer aux projets crossover. Avec leur
nouveau projet DelVitaGroup XL, ils combinent à un haut niveau le jazz et la musique classique. Le
groupe compte nombre d’excellents musiciens de formation aussi bien jazz que classique (BJO,
Brussels Philarmonic, La Framboise Frivole, l’Orchestre National de Belgique, Musique Royale de la
Marine, ...).
C’est en 2010 que l’intérêt commun des cinq musiciens pour la musique classique les stimule à trouver
une façon de combiner leur connaissance et leur vécu du jazz aux diverses influences de la musique
impressionniste. Un projet artistique innovant voit ainsi le jour avec un tout premier CD Yip & Yang.
Cet album comporte des compositions du quintet, une musique originale qui s’est formée au fil des
années. Afin de combiner le plus fidèlement possible les deux genres musicaux, les musiciens ont

FR Myrddin De Cauter, fils cadet du multi-instrumentiste Koen De Cauter, est un phénomène dans la
musique contemporaine. Il apprend la clarinette dès son plus jeune âge, se lance dans le jazz, le swing
manouche, la musique classique et bien d‘autres genres, tout en se forgeant sa propre personnalité. A 14
ans, il découvre la richesse et l’originalité de la guitare flamenco avec son père qui lui en apprend les
bases. Il part ensuite en Espagne pour parfaire son apprentissage auprès des plus grands maîtres du
flamenco : Gerardo Nuñez, Manolo Sanlucar, Enrique De Melchior et Rafaël Riqueni. Au fil des ans,
Myrddin a démontré une virtuosité technique incroyable, sa première préoccupation restant la
profondeur de la musique. La diversité de ses intérêts et de ses influences est probablement à la base de
son style original et unique dans le flamenco contemporain. Il a sorti trois CD de ses propres créations.
En 2007, il présenta son CD ‘Novar’ au Brosella. Sur son dernier album ‘Lucia Nieve’, il démontre ses
grandes compétences en tant que compositeur et guitariste, preuve que les virtuoses de flamenco ne
viennent pas forcément d’Espagne.
Jef Neve s’est affirmé comme l’un des meilleurs compositeurs et pianistes jazz de sa génération. Bien
connu de son public belge, il a depuis longtemps conquis la scène internationale du jazz. Au cours des
dernières années, il a été nominé à plusieurs reprises pour les ZAMU et Music Industry Awards, prix
qui lui ont, du reste, été décernés en 2007, 2009 et 2010. Avec des albums entrés sur la liste des bestsellers, son émission radio sur Klara et ses collaborations avec José James et Gabriel Rios, il est devenu
un artiste incontournable.
Mais ce que Jef Neve aime par-dessus tout, ce sont les belles mélodies, les rencontres musicales et les
défis. Sa rencontre avec Myrddin fin 2011 donna lieu à un superbe concert où les similitudes entre les
compositions des deux artistes sont apparues comme une évidence. Cette rencontre unique donna lieu à
une nouvelle collaboration entre Jef Neve et Myrddin à un nouveau projet ‘Sons of the New World’. Le
groupe prévoit l’enregistrement d’un album en studio cet été. Brosella vous propose de les découvrir en
duo.
NL Myrddin De Cauter, de jongste zoon van multi-instrumentalist Koen De Cauter, is een fenomeen
in de hedendaagse muziekwereld. Op jonge leeftijd leerde hij klarinet spelen en legde hij een pad af
langs jazz en gipsyswing, maar ook klassieke muziek en vele andere stijlen. Al heel vroeg smeedde hij
zijn eigen persoonlijkheid op het instrument. Op zijn 14de ontdekte hij de rijkdom en originaliteit van de
flamencogitaar. Na de fundamenten van zijn vader te hebben geleerd, vertrok hij naar Spanje waar hij
lessen volgde bij de flamenco grootmeesters Gerardo Nuñez, Manolo Sanlucar, Enrique De Melchior en
Rafaël Riqueni. Na verloop van jaren blijkt Myrddin niet zomaar een flamencogitarist te zijn, maar wel
een uitzonderlijk talent, dat zowel technische virtuositeit als een diep lyrisch beleven tot een geheel kan

versmelten. Hij heeft al drie cd’s op zijn actief. In 2007 presenteerde hij de CD ‘Novar’ op Brosella. Op

die hij in 2007, 2009 en 2010 ook kreeg. Met een aantal succesvolle albums, een radioprogramma op
Klara, samenwerkingen met José James en Gabriel Rios en als componist (voor de reeks ‘in Vlaamse
Velden’ en zelfs heel onlangs nog een heuse symfonie) is hij ‘alomtegenwoordig’ geworden.
Maar Jef Neve houdt vooral van mooie muziek, muzikale ontmoetingen en uitdagingen. Eind 2011
creëerde hij zo een ontmoeting met Myrddin, wat resulteerde in een prachtconcert waarin de
gelijkenissen tussen de composities van beide artiesten duidelijk waren. Het bleef ook niet bij die ene
ontmoeting aangezien Jef Neve hem voorstelde deel uit te maken van zijn nieuw project ‘Sons of the
New World’. In de zomer kruipt deze groep in de studio om een nieuwe plaat op te nemen en op

EN Myrddin De Cauter, youngest son of multi-instrumentalist Koen De Cauter, is a phenomenon in
contemporary music. He learned to play the clarinet at an early age and began to focus on jazz and
gypsy swing but also classical music and many other styles, while forging his own style on the
instrument. He discovered the richness and originality of flamenco guitar at the age of fourteen with his
father who taught him the foundations. He then went to Spain to complete his apprenticeship with some
of the greatest masters of flamenco: Gerardo Nuñez, Manolo Sanlucar, Enrique De Melchior and Rafaël
Riqueni. Through the years, Myrddin has shown a phenomenal technical virtuosity, but his first concern
has always been to reach the depth of music. It is probably this variety of interests and influences that
created his original and unique style of contemporary flamenco. He has released three CDs of his own
creations. In 2007, he presented his CD ‘Novar’ on Brosella. On his latest album 'Lucia Nieve', he
demonstrates his incredible skills as a composer and guitarist, showing that great flamenco virtuosos do
not necessarily come from Spain.
Jef Neve is undoubtedly one of the best jazz pianists and composers of his generation. Well known by
his Belgium public, he conquered the international jazz scene a long time ago. He was nominated
several times for the ZAMU and Music Industry Awards which he received in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
With a number of successful albums, a radio program on Klara and collaborations with Jose James and
Gabriel Rios, he has become a major artist.
But what Jef Neve loves above all are beautiful melodies, musical encounters and challenges. His
meeting with Myrddin at the end of 2011 resulted in a wonderful concert in which the compositions of
the two artists showed similarities. It did not stop at that one meeting, as Jef Neve invited Myrddin to
participate in his new project ‘Sons of the New World’. The group plans to record a studio album this
summer. Brosella wants you to discover them as a duo.

Zijn eerste album dateert van 1984. Vanaf zijn eerste optreden met het orkest van Duke Ellington
(geleid door Mercer Ellington) tot alle periodes die hij doorbracht met musici zoals Miles Davis,
Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey, The Jazz Messengers en Marcus Miller, heeft Garrett altijd een krachtig

Op Brosella zal Garrett zijn laatste project 'Pushing the World Away' presenteren. Hij heeft letterlijk
een eindeloze stroom van afleidingen ‘terzijde moeten schuiven’ en prioriteiten in zijn schema moeten
verleggen om zo diep mogelijk in de essentie van de muziek te kunnen duiken. Met dit album bereikt de
52-jarige artiest het hoogtepunt van zijn creatieve vermogen als saxofonist en componist. Hij verbindt
zich ertoe een weg te vinden die hem toelaat zich sterk in zijn onbetwiste kunst te gaan verdiepen.
Het album is niet alleen een eerbetoon aan Miller: het brengt ook hulde aan een aantal andere vrienden
en helden (Chick Corea, Chucho Valdes, Sonny Rollins, Donald Brown). ‘Pushing the World Away’
verbindt Garrett met zijn in 2012 veelgeprezen juweeltje 'Seeds From The Underground'. Garrett's band

heroes - Chick Corea, Chucho Valdés, Sonny Rollins, Donald Brown - on ‘Pushing the World Away’,
which connects the album to Garrett’s 2012 critically acclaimed gem, ‘Seeds From The Underground’.

mag trekken, of beter, de instrumenten in handen krijgt.

de toeschouwers ondersteboven.
EN We are dynamite! ‘T.N.T’. is the newest creation of the ‘Compagnie Scratch’, a burlesque style
juggling and dance show. Five jugglers move around on a stage made up of cubes and try to master
three challenges, allowing them to set the stage on fire and wind up the audience in a performance of

juggling and other magic tricks. The five artists propel the audience beyond the boundaries of the
Cartesian world, defying the laws of physics thanks to their irresistible street-wear style.

d’un spectacle de jonglerie burlesque et de chorégraphies idiotes. Les cinq jongleurs évoluent dans un
décor de cubes et tentent de réussir trois épreuves leur permettant de mettre le feu à la scène dans tous
les sens du terme. Pour ce faire, ils effectueront tantôt des passings massues, tantôt de la magie. Ces
artistes propulseront leur public hors du monde cartésien et défieront les lois de la pesanteur grâce à leur
style ‘streetwear’ attachant. C’est presque sans danger que la Cie Scratch amènera le public ‘à tout faire

‘Colores de Monstruo’
(MONSTER COLOURS) was formed at
the beginning of 2008 when Tombs
Creatius were asked to create a
collection of games for Costa Rica’s
International Festival of the Arts (FIA).
There, they had the great opportunity to
work with country’s best illustrators to
bring their games to life. Tombs
Creatius were so satisfied with the result
that they decided to create a new
collection where the utmost importance
would be given to the games’ settings.
This collection has been illustrated by
Carles Porta, sculptor, graphic designer
and animator and it creates a visual,
expressive and exciting setting. All the games exhibited are also stimulating and exciting works of art.
FR ‘Colores de Monstruo’ a vu le jour début 2008, lorsqu’on demanda à Tombs Creatius de créer
une collection de jeux pour le Festival international des Arts du Costa Rica (FIA). Ils eurent la chance
exceptionnelle d’avoir à leur disposition les meilleurs illustrateurs du pays afin de mettre en application
leurs idées pour donner vie aux objets. Le résultat final s’est traduit par des jeux témoignant d’un
fabuleux talent. Tombs Creatius était tellement satisfait qu’ils décidèrent d’élargir leur collection. La
façon dont l’artiste plasticien, graphiste et producteur d'animation Carles Porta a illustré la collection
crée un cadre visuel expressif et passionnant. La manière dont les jeux sont présentés est également une
véritable exposition.

Creatius gevraagd werd om een collectie van spelen te maken voor het Costa Rica International
Kunstenfestival (FIA). 's Lands beste illustratoren stonden ter beschikking van de groep om hun ideeën
uit te werken. Dit resulteerde in speeltuigen die getuigen van een fantastisch talent om voorwerpen tot
leven te wekken. Tombs Creatius was zo onder de indruk van hun werk dat ze besloten de collectie uit
te breiden. De collectie werd geïllustreerd door beeldhouwer, grafisch ontwerper en animator Carles
Porta. Hij wist van de speeltuigen een prachtige expressieve en boeiende kunstcollectie te maken
waarvan men tegelijkertijd spelend en puur visueel kan genieten.

Anne Mortiaux (BE): Land Art
FR Anne Mortiaux nous revient cette année avec un nouvel univers. Elle
proposera des ateliers à la chaux pour peindre, donner forme aux lettres, créer
des miniatures sur les troncs d’arbre, les branches, les feuilles, … Enfants et
adultes seront amenés à créer ensemble un nouveau lieu de rêve sur le site du
festival.
NL Anne Mortiaux komt dit jaar terug met een workshop met kalk om te
schilderen, vorm te geven aan letters, miniaturen te maken op boomstammen,
taken, bladeren, … Kinderen en volwassenen worden aangespoord om samen
een nieuwe magische plek te creëren op het festivalterrein.

Samen maken ze een reis naar een land dat nog niet bestaat, een land van eigen woorden, een land waar

the lost ones back to their parents. But get ready for
funny surprises too, like the real Agent 15.

qui n’arrête pas de courir derrière les sympathiques garnements Quick et Flupke. Brosella a invité ses
propres agents, ‘les Agents 7,5 & 7,5’ qui vous guideront d’un spectacle à l’autre dans un délicieux
mélange de français, de néerlandais et de bruxellois. Ils garderont un œil sur vos adorables petits
garnements et ramèneront les éventuels égarés auprès de leurs parents. Mais attendez-vous aussi à les
voir faire quelques bêtises, comme le vrai Agent 15.
NL U kent hem wel, agent 15 uit Kwik & Flupke, in het zwarte pak en met de witte helm, die altijd
achter de twee deugnieten aanzit. Brosella Kids heeft veel meer deugnieten rondlopen en dus hebben wij
onze eigen twee agenten uitgenodigd: ‘Agenten 7,5 & 7,5’. In een mengeling van Nederlands, Frans en
Brussels begeleiden ze u vakkundig van de ene show naar de andere. Ze brengen orde in de chaos,
wenende kindjes terug naar hun verloren gelopen mama’s en af en toe laten ze ook iets totaal in het
honderd lopen. Net zoals de echte.
