Cycle route Amsterdam – Muiden 18.4 km Route 1 2 3 Start: Amsterdam Central Station Stay on Prins Hendrikkade Turn right into Kadijksplein and cycle towards the Gatehouse At the Gatehouse, turn left into Laagte Kadijk Turn right into Binnenkadijk 4 Take a left turn into Entrepotdok Points of Interest Central Station was designed by Pierre Cuypers, who was also the architect of the Rijksmuseum. 1 3 Entrepotdok was for- merly a complex of warehouses. The Gatehouse (to the left of the bridge/ sluice gates) used to be the office of the director of Entrepotdok and has now been converted into dwellings. Cross over the Entrepotdok sluice gates 6 Proceed along Entrepotdok Turn left into Geschutswerf 5 On the left is the former shipyard. After 1970, the building was converted to create Museum Werf ’t Kromhout. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the Scheepvaarthuis (Shipping House) (Prins Hendrikkade 108) is the earliest example of the Amsterdam School style of architecture. 2 4 All of the houses along the quay used to be warehouses. Route Points of Interest Take a right into Hoogte Kadijk Turn right into Zeeburgerdijkstraat 8 Go straight on until you come to Pontanusstraat 9 At the end of the road, turn right into Wijttenbachstraat 7 On the left is the last Turn left into Linnaeusstraat surviving flour mill, De Gooyer. Beside the windmill is Brouwer ’t IJ, a local brewery. 10 Continue straight on along Middenweg 11 Turn left into Kruislaan 12 Go straight on, under the viaduct, into Science Park. Cycle through the Science Park and at the end of the road follow the bicycle path on the right to the Flevoroute. Continue straight on until you come to a small bridge on the left: cross the bridge onto Westelijke Merwedekanaaldijk Turn right onto the Nesciobrug (Nescio Bridge) (follow the sign ‘Muiden via park’) 13 Go straight on into Diemerzeedijk Follow the road until you reach Waterkeringpad Continue straight on to Diemerzeedijk 15 Stay on Diemerzeedijk. 16 Turn left into Amsterdamsestraat Cross the sluice gates 17 On the other side of the sluice gates, turn left into Herengracht Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot is at the end of the Herengracht. along Middenweg is Frankendael Park, where the Pure Market for organic produce is held on the last Sunday of every month. kendael House, the last remaining country house in Amsterdam. Grand Cafe Frankendael is a good spot to stop for refreshment. The Diemerpark is a great spot to watch the ships sailing past or to stretch your legs. Above all, keep an eye out for the many animals living here, including pheasants and grass snakes (don’t worry, they’re harmless). At the end of the park is Paviljoen Puur, which is open in the summer for something to eat and drink. Opposite Paviljoen Puur is Fort Diemerdam, which is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam (Stelling van Amsterdam). It was formerly a coastal fortification with three canons. 14 Follow the road to Zeestraat 10 A little further 11 Beside the park is Fran- This is one of the 12 campuses of the University of Amsterdam. One of the highlights is the observatory. Cross over the Nesciobrug 14 On the right is the Dappermarkt, one of the oldest markets in Amsterdam. 9 There is a bicycle repair shop beneath Muiderpoort station. 8 Rijksmuseum Muiderslot Herengracht 1 1398 AA Muiden Free Muiderslot App for Apple and AndroidFree WIFI WWW.MUIDERSLOT.NL This is the longest bridge for cyclists in the Netherlands. 13 If the weather is fine, you will be able to see Pampus Island. 15 To reach Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot, turn left. Louw en Wim Konings At the end of Hoogte Kadijk (near the Albert Heijn supermarket), turn left into Sarphartistraat 7 At the end of Entrepotdok are the Kalenderpanden (Calendar Buildings). At the end of the 20th century, these buildings were occupied by squatters and became a hive of cultural and creative activity. The buildings were converted into housing at the beginning of the 21st century. 6
