Day report June 29th
Sunny start at Biesterbos Open on qualies day
BAKKUM – Today was the first day of the Biesterbos Open Tennis Championships at TC Bakkum. The boys played most of the matches, because there are
many more participants in that draw. Unfortunately, the girls qualification draw
wasn’t full, because of many withdrawals before the sign in.
One of the boys’ matches was between Bakkum-player
Marnix Blom and Ryan Nijboer, both from the Netherlands. Blom played very well, did not get nervous and
was 6-5 ahead. However, he wasn’t able to pull through
and lost the first set in a tiebreaker. The loss of the tiebreak was the turning point in the match. Blom wasn’t
able to play at his level of the first set and lost the set
with 6-0.
Nijboer played his second match against Lukas Daels
from Belgium. He lost with 7-6 and 6-3.
There was yet another Dutch success; Guus Koevermans won 2 matches and will play his final match in
the qualies for a place in the main draw. Koevermans
will play against Dutchman Maikel Borg. He also won 2
matches today. They will play against each other on the
centre court at 10.00.
Another Dutchie who played today was Sam van Dijk.
He won his first match against the German Phillipp
Barth with 6-1 6-3. Later in the day, with sunny weather
and good temperatures, he had to play at centre court
against the second seeded Portuguese Francisco Guimaraes . Van Dijk was the most aggressive player of the
two, but wasn’t consistent enough with his aggressive
play. At the important moments in the match his opponent played the balls between the lines, where Van Dijk
made the errors. Final result: 6-4 7-5 for the Portuguese.
Another match at centre court was between Phillis
Vanenburg (Netherlands) and Lynn Janssens from Belgium. Vanenburg showed the audience her skills with
powerful tennis and won her match pretty easily with 6-2
6-0. Tomorrow she has to play her final match against
Julia Rosenqvist from Sweden. The winner of that match
will be qualified for the main draw, which will start on
Tuesday the 2nd.
All final matches of the qualification draw will start at
10.00. The Biesterbos Open Tournament will be officially
opened at 19.30 with a clinic by local top tennis players.
