De Individual Fellowships kennen twee varianten: de European Fellowship (EF) en de Global Fellowship (GF). Een EF
is voor een beurs naar een instelling in Europa. Bij een GF wordt de onderzoeker uitgezonden vanuit een EU instelling
naar een onderzoeksinstelling in een derde land (VS, Japan, etc.). De EF kent twee speciale multidisciplinaire panels:
CAR en RI.
Voor het Career Restart Panel moet je in het jaar direct voorafgaande aan de deadline niet actief zijn geweest in het
onderzoek. Dit kan zijn vanwege ouderschapsverlof of andere werkzaamheden (advocatuur o.i.d.). Daarnaast is er een
soepelere mobiliteitseis: in de afgelopen vijf jaar mag je niet langer dan drie jaar in het land van de beurs
gewoond/gewerkt hebben.
Voor het Reintegration Panel moet er sprake zijn van mobiliteit vanuit een derde land naar de EU. Dit hoeft niet direct
voorafgaand aan de deadline te zijn. Daarnaast is er ook weer de soepelere mobiliteitseis: in de afgelopen vijf jaar
mag je niet langer dan drie jaar in het land van de beurs gewoond/werkt hebben. Voor zowel de Global Fellowship als
het RI panel binnen de European Fellowship moet je een EU National of een EU long term resident zijn (>5 jaar in de
EU).
Let op: Voor de Global Fellowships is slechts 12% van het totaalbudget gereserveerd (t.o.v. 20% in 2013).

Dit zijn de evaluatiecriteria en hun weging. Alle onderdelen zijn zeer belangrijk om volledig in te vullen. Probeer je niet
alleen op het (ogenschijnlijk belangrijkste) onderdeel Excellence te focussen, maar besteed aan alle onderdelen
evenveel aandacht. Om kans te maken op een IF, moet je namelijk zeer hoog scoren op alle onderdelen!
Priority ex aequo: in het geval dat er twee voorstellen gelijk scoren/in aanmerking komen voor financiering wordt
voorrang gegeven aan het voorstel dat het hoogst scoort op Excellence, vervolgens wordt gekeken naar Impact en dan
naar de scores op Implementation.

You should develop your proposal according to the following lines:
Introduction, state-of-the-art, objectives and overview of the action
Introduction: Definieer als eerste de doelstelling(en)/ objectives van jouw project helder en concreet (SMART). De
doelstelling moet Specifiek zijn (wat ga je ontwikkelen bijv.), Meetbaar (aan het eind van de beurs moet je een
concreet resultaat kunnen laten zien), Achievable (het resultaat moet te behalen zijn in gedurende de looptijd van de
beurs), Realistisch (te bereiken in 12/24 maanden?) en Timely (waarom nu van belang om dit te doen).
Geef een beschrijving van wat tot nu toe bekend is over je onderwerp en welke kennis jij gaat toevoegen hieraan.
(Alles wat tot op heden bij de wetenschap bekend is heet ‘de state of the art”). Wat is de “bottleneck”? Wat hebben
anderen al bereikt, en waarom is dit niet voldoende?
Beschrijf vervolgens de interdisciplinaire (heeft het onderzoek te maken met verschillende vakgebieden?) of
multidisciplinaire aspecten (is het onderzoek dat op verschillende vakgebieden toegepast kan worden?) en de
intersectorale aspecten (kom je in aanraking met het bedrijfsleven of andere organisaties?)
Beschrijf jouw project als een op zich zelf staand project en maak het niet ondergeschikt aan een groter geheel.
Research methodology and approach: highlight the type of research and
innovation activities proposed
Research methodology and approach: Wees zo specifiek mogelijk over de methodes, technieken, benaderingen,
theorieën die je gaat toepassen. Dit is ook belangrijk om later op terug te grijpen wanneer je duidelijk moet maken
waarom je iets nieuws kunt leren tijdens dit project . Het schept ook vertrouwen bij de evaluatoren als je heel concreet
en specifiek (niet vaag en algemeen) bent over hoe je deze kwestie gaat benaderen. Probeer een onderscheid te
houden tussen de methodologie, die hier beschreven moet worden, en het concrete werkplan, dat onder
Implementation aan de orde komt. Hier gaat het om de conceptuele aanpak. Wat is de onderzoeksvraag en met welke
methodes/technieken ga ik die benaderen?

Originality and innovative aspects of the research programme: explain the
contribution that the project is expected to make to advancements within
the project field. Describe any novel concepts, approaches or methods that
will be employed.
The text should emphasise how the high-quality, novel research is the most
likely to open up the best career possibilities for the experienced researcher and
new collaboration opportunities for the hosting organisation(s).
Originality and innovative aspects of the research programme: Het moet duidelijk worden wat er nieuw is aan jouw
onderzoek. Je maakt duidelijk wat anderen doen op jouw terrein, en hoe jouw project daarop aansluit. Waarom is jouw
project vernieuwend, waar zit het kennishiaat dat jouw project gaat opvullen? Wat is het voordeel van deze nieuwe
aanpak? Waarin zit hem precies het vernieuwende? Beschrijf daarbij ook: waarom nu? Is dit nooit eerder geprobeerd?
Zijn er recente ontwikkelingen die dit onderzoek ineens mogelijk maken waar dat voorheen niet mogelijk was? Of is er
ineens een urgentie om deze vraag te beantwoorden? Is het een nooit eerder gestelde vraag? Of een oude vraag
maar een nieuwe manier om dit op te lossen? Is het een hot topic? En waarom is het een gemis dat we deze kennis
nu niet hebben?
New collaboration opportunities: Is een toegevoegde waarde van dit project dat er een langdurig
samenwerkingsverband ontstaat tussen de instellingen (gast-instelling waar je naar toe gaat en het ‘thuisland”)?
2.2 Clarity and quality of transfer of knowledge/training for the
development of the researcher in light of the research objectives
Geef zo concreet en gedetailleerd mogelijk aan welke nieuwe wetenschappelijke kennis je wilt opdoen. Geef ook aan
op welke manier je die kennis gaat ontwikkelen. Ga je cursussen volgen, bij iemand op werkbezoek, word je
gecoacht, is het zelfstudie onder begeleiding, is het ‘learning by doing’? Beschrijf deze training niet alleen vanuit je
wetenschappelijke project, maar (vooral) ook vanuit jouw carrièredoelen. Zorg dat duidelijk wordt waarom juist de
gastorganisatie de beste plek is om deze kennis te verwerven.
A two way transfer of knowledge should be described (please see Section 5.2 of
this Guide):
The text must show how the Experienced Researcher will gain new
knowledge from the hosting organisation(s) during the fellowship through
training.
Beschrijf op welke manier deze nieuwe vaardigheden je profiel compleet maken, hoe ze aanvullend zijn ten opzichte
van je huidige kennis. Waarom heb je die aanvullende kennis nodig, hoe past het in je lange-termijn carrièreplan? Is
het een ‘leading lab’ waar je naar toe gaat? Kom je hier te werken met de beste apparatuur en mensen (de “toppers”
in jouw vakgebied)? Hoe maak je je kennis en vaardigheden nu compleet? Heb je een stimulerend klimaat nodig wat
je hier vindt? Krijg je training die in NL er niet is? Leer je van de andere werkomstandigheden en cultuur?
Geef daarnaast ook (evt. in een apart kopje) aan welke aanvullende, niet wetenschappelijke vaardigheden je wilt
opdoen. Je kunt denken aan Intellectual Property Rights, project management, communicatie, leiding geven aan een
team, opstarten van een bedrijf, interviewtraining, etc. Als het enigszins relevant is voor het onderwerp, zijn
ervaringen of training waarbij je meer kennis krijgt van het bedrijfsleven altijd gewaardeerd. Krijg je ervaring in het
presenteren van jouw onderzoeksresultaten?
Bij projecten waar ethische kwesties een rol kunnen spelen is het goed om dit ook te benoemen bij de aanvullende
vaardigheden. Mocht je hier niets nieuws meer over willen leren omdat je al veel ervaring hebt hiermee, benoem dit
dan.

These organisations may also benefit from the previous experience of the
researcher. Outline the capacity for transferring the knowledge previously
acquired by the researcher to the host organisation(s).
Dit deel gaat over het overdragen van kennis. Mist er kennis bij de organisatie waar je naar toe gaat (= need for
Transfer of Knowledge?). Versterkt jouw nieuwe kennis wellicht de concurrentiekracht van de commerciële organisatie
waar je op stage gaat/naar toe gaat of versterkt jouw nieuwe kennis de wetenschappelijke reputatie van de
academische instelling waar je naar toe gaat? En hoe ga je jouw kennis overdragen? Bijv. door samen aan een
experiment te werken, ga je een nieuwe methode overdragen of leren van de organisatie waar je naar toe gaat, of
door werkoverleg of meetings, colleges? Deze vraag gaat over kennisoverdracht beide kanten op. Welke unieke
kennis draagt de onderzoeker over en op welke manier, en vice versa. Geef dit zo concreet en gedetailleerd mogelijk
weer. Welke vaardigheden/ ervaring heb jij die de groep in ...nodig heeft, en hoe profiteert de organisatie daarvan.
For Global Fellowships explain how the new acquired skills and knowledge in the
TC will be transferred back to the host institution in Europe.
Bij een Global Fellowship geef je aan hoe je ervoor gaat zorgen dat de kennis die je hebt opgedaan in het derde land
weer terug komt naar de organisatie in de EU. Beschrijf op welke manier de opgedane kennis met de organisatie
gedeeld wordt (bijv. door het opzetten van een onderzoekslijn, conferenties, lesgeven). Dit kan ook in de Gantt chart
gezet worden. Bijv. een wetenschappelijk werkoverleg of geef je evt. een workshop of seminar aan collega's. Wees
specifiek welke kennis je wanneer gaat overdragen. Denk naast wetenschappelijke kennis ook aan nietwetenschappelijke skills die overgebracht kunnen worden. In de VS is men bijv. sterker in het vermarkten van
resultaten, of misschien heeft de organisatie in het derde land kennis over hoe ontdekkingen kunnen worden omgezet
in vaccins bijv.? Of een andere manier van omgaan met ethische aspecten?
2.3
Quality of the supervision and the hosting arrangements
Required sub-heading:
Qualifications and experience of the supervisor(s)
Information regarding the supervisor(s) must include the level of experience on
the research topic proposed and document its track record of work, including the
main international collaborations. Information provided should include
participation in projects, publications, patents and any other relevant results.
To avoid duplication, the role and profile of the supervisor(s) should only be
listed in the "Capacity of the Participating Organisations" tables (see section 6
below).

Geef, naast de algemene ervaring met het begeleiden van gastonderzoekers, hier vooral ook aan wat de gastgroep
voor jou gaat doen. Is de supervisor een druk bezet persoon, zijn er dan misschien nog anderen in de groep die jou
mede gaan begeleiden? Hoe zijn de momenten geregeld waarop je met je supervisor overlegt? Is er periodiek overleg
met heel het team? Geef aan hoe je supervisor je kan helpen, niet alleen door de wetenschappelijke kennis en tips die
hij met je deelt, maar ook over hoe je carrière kunt opbouwen, hoe je je zo goed mogelijk presenteert op de
arbeidsmarkt voor onderzoekers (indien relevant). Welke internationale samenwerkingen zijn er en hoe kun jij daarvan
profiteren ? Ga je mee naar scientific meetings bijv.? Dit deel gaat verder over de persoon die jouw supervisor wordt,
bij de gast-instelling.
Vertel of deze persoon al eerder (buitenlandse) post-docs heeft begeleid, en zo ja, hoeveel. Het staat goed als je een
paar namen kunt geven, en kunt melden dat die personen daarna een succesvolle carrière opgebouwd hebben.
Er is één scientist in charge en één gastgroep waar de focus moet liggen. Je kunt wel andere onderzoekers noemen
die je ook over bepaalde onderwerpen kunnen helpen. Ook korte werkbezoeken zijn mogelijk bij andere groepen –wat
is de toegevoegde waarde en door wie en hoe zul je daar begeleid worden (secondments).
The text must show that the experienced researcher should be well integrated
within the hosting organisation(s) in order that all parties gain the maximum
knowledge and skills from the fellowship. For GF both phases should be
described, for the outgoing what practical arrangements are made in place to
host a researcher coming from another country and for the return period what
measures are planned for the successful re-integration of the researcher
‘Well integrated’: Dit deel gaat dus ook over de onderzoeksgroep/host organisation(s), de directe omgeving waar het
project uitgevoerd gaat worden. Wat zijn hun wetenschappelijke sterktepunten? Maar denk ook aan praktische zaken
mbt de integratie in de onderzoeksgroep en het land van bestemming: Hoe is de begeleiding geregeld eenmaal terug
bij je eigen instelling (voor een GF)? Hoe wordt je opgevangen, hoe ga je samenwerken? Hoe wordt je bijvoorbeeld
‘ingewerkt‘?
Noem hier ook het personal career development plan dat je gaat opstellen met je supervisor! Krijg je een mentor, hoe
vaak wordt dit plan gemonitord?

to career development:
Career development
Employers and/or funders of researchers should draw up, preferably within the
framework of their human resources management, a specific career development
strategy for researchers at all stages of their career, regardless of their
contractual situation, including for researchers on fixed-term contracts. It should
include the availability of mentors involved in providing support and guidance for
the personal and professional development of researchers, thus motivating them
and contributing to reducing any insecurity in their professional future. All
researchers should be made familiar with such provisions and arrangements.

Capacity of the researcher to reach and re-enforce a position of
professional maturity in research
Please keep in mind that the fellowships will be awarded to the most talented
researchers as shown by their ideas and their track record, where it is a fair
indicator given their level of experience.
Beschrijf wat je over 5-10 jaar bereikt zou willen hebben in je carrière, en hoe deze beurs je daarbij kan helpen. Het
gaat hier niet (alleen) om wat je kan en weet, maar wat je allemaal kunt doen met wat je weet en kunt. Waar zie jij
jezelf over vijf jaar?
Hier moet je aan de ene kant aantonen dat je voldoende voorkennis en vaardigheden hebt om dit uitdagende project
aan te kunnen. Is dit een logische stap in je carrière? Waar wil je naar toe?
Geef de evaluatoren een zo goed mogelijke indruk waarom jij een goede onderzoeker bent. Op welk resultaat ben je
het meest trots? (Dus niet over aantallen publicaties o.i.d., maar wat heb jij bijgedragen aan de kennis in het veld.) Als
dit een groepsactiviteit was, beschrijf dan jouw aandeel. Je kunt hierbij verwijzen naar je CV (sectie 5).
Professional maturity: In hoeverre heb je bepaalde resultaten zelfstandig bereikt zonder steun/richtlijnen van je
supervisor? Laat zien dat je klaar bent voor een individueel 1- of 2-jarig project (als dit de eerste keer is). Heb je
leiding gegeven aan projecten of delen daarvan? Heb je studenten of PhDs begeleid? Heb je nieuwe methodes
bedacht die succesvol zijn gebleken? Heb je workshops of verenigingen opgezet? Heb je zelfstandig nieuwe
samenwerkingen opgezet? Beschrijf eerdere situaties waarin je je met succes nieuwe kennis hebt eigen gemaakt.
Geef concrete voorbeelden waaruit jouw potentie moet blijken.

Impact
3.1
Enhancing research- and innovation-related human resources,
skills, and working conditions to realise the potential of individuals
and to provide new career perspectives
In this section, please explain the impact of the research and training on the
Experienced Researcher’s career. The fellowship, including any secondments in
Europe should maximise the impact on the researcher’s activity on European
society, including the science base and/or the economy, in a manner appropriate
to the research field.
Impact gaat over de toegevoegde waarde van dit project. Hier moet beschreven worden hoe jouw voorstel
overeenkomt met de beleidsdoelen van het Marie Curie programma. Een van die doelen is meer goede en goed
opgeleide onderzoekers in Europa krijgen en de carrièremogelijkheden van onderzoekers te verbeteren. Hoe draagt
deze beurs daaraan bij? Beschrijf de potentie van de fellowship om jouw vaardigheden te verbeteren. Na afloop van
het project, wat voegt de nieuwe kennis toe aan jouw profiel? Ben je nu in staat te werken op andere vakgebieden?
Heb je zowel theorie als praktijk geleerd? Welke cursussen op het terrein van additionele vaardigheden heb je
gevolgd? Bijv. personal management, oral presentation, grants and paper writing? En wat is de impact van deze
cursussen op jouw professionaliteit?
De IF dient een significante sprong in je carrière teweeg te brengen. Wat is de impact van deze beurs op je CV? Ben je
nu meer waard op de arbeidsmarkt? Hoe draagt deze beurs bij aan het realiseren van je carrièredoelen? En waar kun
je nu allemaal evt. gaan werken? Heb je ook advies gekregen over de rest van je carrière, dus niet puur
wetenschappelijke kennis maar bijv. loopbaanadvies? Heeft jouw supervisor daar een rol in gespeeld? Heb je multidisciplinair advies gekregen? Hoe hebben de evt. secondments bijgedragen aan je carrièreperspectieven?
Wat is de toegevoegde waarde van jouw wetenschappelijk project? Heeft Europa een vooraanstaande kennispositie
op dit onderwerp (proberen die te behouden, daardoor aantrekkingskracht voor goede onderzoekers om naar die
groep te komen)? Of moeten we juist zorgen dat we een achterstand inhalen? Waarom heeft Europa een nieuwe
onderzoeker nodig op het gebied van…..? Heeft het onderzoek een impact op een maatschappelijk probleem (kanker,
vergrijzing, energie tekort etc.) of de economie of op Europa? (=Concurrentiepositie van Europa). M.a.w. wat maakt dit
project de moeite van het investeren waard voor de EU?
3.2
Effectiveness of the proposed measures for communication
and results dissemination

Communication and public engagement strategy of the action
De Public Engagement Strategy is gericht op een niet-wetenschappelijk publiek. Bijv. naar middelbare scholen gaan
om iets te vertellen of leuke experimenten te doen, met patiëntengroepen of belanghebbenden praten, online
discussies, wikipedia-pagina maken, stukjes in dagbladen (spits, metro…), enz. En wat is de impact van deze
activiteiten? Worden jongeren bijv. enthousiast gemaakt voor jouw vakgebied? Zorg dat je de activiteiten concreet en
realistisch beschrijft. Zet de activiteiten concreet in de Gantt Chart. Bijv. een conferentie waar je gaat praten of een
public appearance of de open dag op het lab.

Dissemination of the research results
Dit onderdeel gaat over disseminatie: het verspreiden van de kennis. Denk niet alleen aan de gebruikelijke
wetenschappelijke artikelen, maar ook breder. Hoe worden de stakeholders bij dit project betrokken? Worden de
resultaten gepresenteerd op congressen, via folders of op een website? Worden er andere organisaties betrokken bij
jouw project resultaten? Hoe ga je zichtbaar maken wat je doet? En wat is de impact hiervan? Als een aantal van je
deliverables niet ‘public’ is en ook niet op een andere manier beschermd of toegepast wordt, kan dat tot vragen leiden
over de impact van de disseminatie.

opgezet? Wie is er eigenaar van? Dit deel gaat ook over IPR, commercialisatie en protectie. Worden de resultaten
wellicht ooit vermarkt? Wat zou hier de impact van zijn?
Concrete plans for the above must be included in the Gantt Chart. The new
knowledge generated by the action should be used wherever possible to enhance
the career of the fellow, to advance research, to foster innovation, and to
promote the research profession to the public.
The following sections of the European Charter for Researchers refer specifically
to public engagement and dissemination:
Public engagement
Researchers should ensure that their research activities are made known to
society at large in such a way that they can be understood by non-specialists,
thereby improving the public's understanding of science. Direct engagement with
the public will help researchers to better understand public interest in priorities
for science and technology and also the public's concerns.
Dissemination, exploitation of results
All researchers should ensure, in compliance with their contractual
arrangements, that the results of their research are disseminated and exploited,
e.g. communicated, transferred into other research settings or, if appropriate,
commercialised. Senior researchers, in particular, are expected to take a lead in
ensuring that research is fruitful and that results are either exploited
commercially or made accessible to the public (or both) whenever the
opportunity arises.

4.1
Overall coherence and effectiveness of the work plan, including
appropriateness of the allocation of tasks and resources

Deliverables: dit zijn concrete bewijzen dat een activiteit is uitgevoerd. Deliverables voor je WP training kunnen bv zijn:
D.1: een summer school die je gaat volgen
D.2: één internationale conferentie waar je naar toe gaat
D.3: het personal career development plan
D.4: secondment naar…. etc.
Periode/month kan zijn 1-48 (voor je project website bijv.). Het wetenschappelijke WP/ de wetenschappelijke WPs
hebben deliverables als: Report on…, prototype..... Een bijeenkomst waar je bijvoorbeeld naar toe gaat is ook een
deliverable (dit zou je evt. kunnen overleggen als daarom gevraagd wordt door de minutes van de meeting te
overleggen).
Milestones: Hier kun je een lijstje geven met enkele (niet te veel!) beoogde tussentijdse resultaten. Een milestone kan
zijn een ‘Understanding of’, ‘Expert Opinion, “Sofware released and validated”. Een milestone is in ieder geval een
tijdstip in het project waarop de voortgang gecheckt kan worden.
Secondments: Als je een secondment gaat doen vul je in de Gantt chart de maanden hiervoor in. Bijv. Maand 14-16
van het project. Leg uit hoe eventueel veldwerk of werkbezoek gepland is en geef dit weer in de Gantt Chart. Beschrijf
goed voor hoe lang, of hoe vaak je op werkbezoek of secondment gaat. Het is mogelijk om meerdere secondments te
doen bij verschillende organisaties of de secondments op te splitsen in meerdere periodes, zolang je de maximum duur
maar niet overschrijdt. Geef dit goed weer in de Gantt chart.

A deliverable is a distinct output of the action, meaningful in terms of the action’s overall objectives
and may be a report, a document, a technical diagram, a software, etc.
Deliverable numbers ordered according to delivery dates. Please use the numbering convention <WP
number>.<number of deliverable within that WP>. For example, deliverable 4.2 would be the second
deliverable from work package 4.
Milestones are control points in the action that help to chart progress. Milestones may correspond to
the completion of a key deliverable, allowing the next phase of the work to begin. They may also be
needed at intermediary points so that, if problems have arisen, corrective measures can be taken. A
milestone may be a critical decision point in the action where, for example, the researcher must decide
which of several technologies to adopt for further development.

(globaal) aan hoe het financiële management van dit project eruit zal zien.
Geef bij een Global Fellowship aan of er een Partnership Agreement wordt opgesteld met het instituut in het derde
land, en wat daarin afgesproken zal worden. Worden bijv. de research costs naar hen overgeheveld voor de outgoing
phase (wel gebruikelijk bij een GF)? Wordt evt. ook een deel van de management en indirecte kosten overgeheveld
naar het derde land? Wat wordt er nog meer afgesproken in de partnership agreement (iets over supervisie of IPR)?
Progress monitoring: Hoe meet je de voortgang van je project? En hoe monitor je de voortgang? Is er bijv. een
bijpraatsessie met de supervisor(s)? Hoe vaak? Of een groepsoverleg?
Risk Management: Wat voor veiligheidsmechanismes heb je ingebouwd als er vertraging optreedt? Als er bepaalde
onderdelen extra moeilijk zijn, geef dan een plan B voor als plan A niet lukt (contingency plan).
IPR: Zeg hier iets over het intellectueel eigendom, als is het maar dat dat niet beschermd zal worden.

Appropriateness of the institutional environment (infrastructure)
Give a description of the legal entity/ies and its main tasks (per participant).
Explain why the fellowship has the maximum chance of a successful outcome.
NB: Each participant is described in Section 6. This specific information should
not be repeated here.

het analyseren van interviews. Is taal een kwestie waar je rekening mee moet houden?
Heb je overal rekening mee gehouden zodat er niets mis kan gaan/ geen onvoorziene problemen? Heb je overal aan
gedacht zodat het project succesvol uitgevoerd kan worden? Als je met patiënten of proefpersonen werkt, leg uit wat
de verwachting is voor hun beschikbaarheid en bereidheid om mee te werken. Als je met proefdieren werkt, zijn die
voorhanden in het lab? Zijn er vergunningen nodig? Als je in het project bijv. apparaten gebruikt die moeilijk te
bedienen zijn, leg dan uit of er ondersteuning en uitleg bij gegeven wordt. Als het apparaten zijn die druk bezet zijn,
toon dan aan dat er voldoende tijd vrij gemaakt wordt voor dit project.
Als je voor het onderzoek moet aanhaken bij een groter project (bijv. als je met grote dure facilities werkt,
satellietgegevens, ruimtevaart, etc.), leg dan uit hoe jouw project hier in past, maar zorg er wel voor dat je jouw project
centraal stelt, en niet te veel ondergeschikt maakt aan het grotere geheel.
Eventueel: Welke voorzieningen zijn er voor buitenlandse onderzoekekers? Is er bijv. een welcome office op de
universiteit o.i.d. om jou te helpen met het acclimatiseren bij de nieuwe universiteit, in het nieuwe land?
4.4 Competences, experience and complementarity of the participating

CV Experienced Researcher
This section should be limited to maximum 5 pages and should include the
standard academic and research record. Any research career gaps and/or
unconventional paths should be clearly explained so that this can be fairly
assessed by the independent evaluators.

Ethics Issues
Ethics is an integral part of research funded by the European Union within
Horizon 2020. Compliance with the relevant ethics provisions is essential from
the beginning to the end of the project.
De Eur. Commissie wil dat jullie overal aan gedacht hebben zoals informed consent, wat is de nationale wetgeving
m.b.t. het gebruik van proefdieren, hoeveel muizen gaan er gebruikt worden in dit project, wat is de Europese
wetgeving op dit terrein, en evt. de internationale wetgeving op dit gebied. Worden er patiënten op websites gezet,
hebben jullie gedacht aan de privacy van ‘proefpersonen”, worden de gegevens van geïnterviewden bewaard? Hoe
komen jullie aan de patiënten, wie heeft er toegang tot de databases, worden er geen mensen gestigmatiseerd,
publiceer je geen persoonlijke gegevens op internet etc.. In de A formulieren word je gevraagd de ethical issues tabel
in te vullen. Als je ergens ‘ja’ hebt aangevinkt wordt je dus gevraagd hier dit zo uitvoerig mogelijk te beschrijven. Op
deze manier kan een ethical review vermeden worden. Je kunt ook nog evt. verwijzen naar de tekst in 2. Excellence
waar je dit iets verder uitlegt in het licht van het onderzoek.
Although research ethics is most developed within the context of medical
research and life sciences, research ethics is of crucial importance for all
scientific domains. Informed consent and confidentiality are as important for a
sociological study as they are for clinical research. There is a strong connection
between research ethics and human rights. Ethical research conduct implies the
application of fundamental ethical principles to scientific research.
Applicants submitting research proposals for funding within Marie SkłodowskaCurie actions in Horizon 2020 should demonstrate proactively to the REA that
they are aware of and will comply with European and national legislation and
fundamental ethics principles, including those reflected in the Charter of
Fundamental Rights of the European Union21 and the European Convention on
Human Rights and its Supplementary Protocols. Applicants applying for funding
should clearly identify ethics issues and proactively address them in their
proposal.
The Ethics Review Procedure in Horizon 2020
All research proposals submitted to the European Commission are evaluated both
on their scientific merit and on its ethical and social impact. When submitting a
proposal to Horizon 2020, all applicants are required to complete an “Ethics
Issues Table (EIT)”. Applicants who flag ethics issues in the Ethics Issues Table
have to complete in addition a more in depth Ethics Self-Assessment.
Please note that all proposals retained with a view to funding will be submitted to
the Ethics Review procedure. A careful analysis and description of any potential
ethics issues in a given proposal and a detailed self-assessment will help all
actors involved to undergo the Ethics Review in an efficient manner without
unnecessary delays.
Ethics Issues Table (EIT) in Part A
If you entered one or more ethical issue/s in the Ethical Issues Table in Part A of
the proposal, you are asked to submit an Ethics Self-Assessment in Part B.
Please ensure that a careful analysis of any potential ethics issues which may
arise in the proposed research is done before the Ethics Issues Table (EIT) is
completed.

Once you have flagged an ethics issue in the Ethics Issues Table of Part A, the
Ethics Self-Assessment in Part B must:
1) for each area flagged in the Ethics Issues Table , describe how the
proposal meets:
the EU legislation on Ethics (e.g. new Directive 2010/63/EU of the
European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2010 on the
protection of animals used for scientific purposes, existing EU legislation
on data protection and privacy etc.);
national legislation and good practices on research ethics;
ethical requirements of any Third country where research raising ethical
issues are to be carried out.

Ensure early compliance of the proposed research with EU and national
legislation on ethics in research. Should your proposal be selected for funding,
and if you have not done this already, you will be required to provide as soon as

an opinion from an Ethics Committee/Authority, required under national
law;
any other ethics’ related documents mandatory under EU– or national
legislation;
if you didn’t apply for/ receive the ethics approval/ required ethics
documents yet when submitting the proposal, please indicate in the
proposal the approximate date when you will provide a missing approval/
any other ethics documents to the REA/ EC (scanned copy). Please state
explicitly that you will not proceed to any research with ethical implications
before the REA/ EC received a scanned copy of all documents proving
compliance with existing EU/ national legislation on ethics.

2) explain in detail how you intend to address the ethics issues flagged
in the Ethical Issues Table of Part A of your proposal, in particular with
regard to:
the research objectives (e.g. study of vulnerable populations like elderly
people, sick or illiterate persons, cooperation with a Third country, dual
use, etc.)
the research methodology (e.g. clinical trials, involvement of children
and related information and consent/assent procedures, use of human
tissues from blood banks, interviews with healthy adult volunteers, data
protection and privacy issued related to data collected, etc.)
the potential impact of the research (e.g. dual use issues, environmental
damage, stigmatisation of particular social groups, political or financial
retaliation, benefit-sharing, malevolent use , etc.).

Letters of Commitment
Please use this section to insert scanned copies of the required Letters of
Commitment from Partner organisations in TC.
Je hoeft dus alleen bij een Global Fellowship een commitment letter bij te voegen (want dan is het Host Institute waar
je gedetacheerd wordt de Partner Organisation in Third Country /TC). Secondments in third countries zijn niet
toegestaan.
Er wordt geen template gegeven voor de commitment letters. Zorg dat het een recente brief is (afgegeven na 12 maart
-de publicatiedatum van de call) en dat duidelijk identificeerbaar is van welk instituut de brief komt. In de brief moet
staan dat de instelling actief deel zal nemen aan het project en de ondersteuning en begeleiding van de fellow. De brief
