8:00pm Nova - Alien Planets Revealed
It's a golden age for planet hunters: NASA's Kepler mission has identified more than 3,500 potential
planets orbiting stars beyond our sun. Some of them, like a planet called Kepler-22b, might even be able
to harbor life. How did we come upon this distant planet? Combining animation with input from expert
astrophysicists and astrobiologists, "Alien Planets Revealed" takes viewers on a journey along with the
Kepler telescope. How does the telescope look for planets? How many of these planets are like our
Earth? Will any of these planets be suitable for life as we know it? Bringing the creative power of veteran
animators together with the latest discoveries in planet- hunting, this film shows the successes of the
Kepler mission, taking us to planets beyond our solar system and providing a glimpse of creatures we
might one day encounter.
9:00pm Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies - Finding The Achilles Heel
This episode starts at a moment of optimism: Scientists believe they have cracked the mystery of the
malignant cell, and the first targeted therapies have been developed. But very quickly cancer reveals new
layers of complexity and a formidable array of defenses. Many call for a new focus on prevention and
early detection as the most promising fronts in the war on cancer. By the second decade of the 2000s, the
bewildering complexity of the cancer cell yields to a more ordered picture, revealing new vulnerabilities
and avenues of attack. Perhaps most exciting is the prospect of harnessing the human immune system to
defeat cancer. A 60-year-old NASCAR mechanic with melanoma and a six- year-old with leukemia are
pioneers in new immunotherapy treatments, which the documentary follows as their stories unfold.

When most people think of Shasta Lake, they imagine themselves on a houseboat enjoying California's
largest manmade reservoir. With 365 miles of shoreline it is a boaters paradise. What most people don't
think about is the massive structure that is responsible for holding back the water that creates Shasta
Lake. We're talking about 3,460 feet long and 602 feet high Shasta Dam which, is a perfect example of
"California's Gold." Construction of the dam started in 1938 and ended in 1945. The spillway is the
largest manmade waterfall in the world - three times the height of Niagara Falls. Shasta Dam has the
second largest mass of any dam in the United States. In this adventure, Huell and Luis get a behind the
scenes look at this engineering marvel. Miles of tunnels and millions of gallons of water make for an
exciting day, but there is another aspect to the Shasta Dam - the human element. It is the people who built
the dam, the people that poured concrete 24 hours a day for 5 1/2 years and the countless other jobs that
make this structure such a gem. Huell meets several of the original dam workers and listens to their
stories about the glory days of Shasta Dam.
8:00pm Nature - Animal Homes: The Nest
Bird nests come in all shapes and sizes, crafted from a diversity of materials, including fur, grasses,
leaves, mosses, sticks and twigs, bones, wool, mud and spider silk. Quite a few contain man-made
materials - twine, bits of wire, even plastic bags. Each is a work of art, built with just a beak! All over the
world, birds in the wild arrive at diverse nesting grounds to collect, compete for, reject, steal and begin to
build with carefully selected materials, crafting homes for the task of protecting their eggs and raising
their young.
9:00pm Nova - Emperor's Ghost Army
In central China, a vast underground mausoleum conceals a life-size terracotta army of cavalry, infantry,
horses, chariots, weapons, administrators, acrobats, and musicians, all built to serve China's first
emperor, Qin Shi Huang Di, in the afterlife. Lost and forgotten for over 2,200 years, this clay army,
8,000-strong, stands poised to help the First Emperor rule again beyond the grave. Now, a new
archaeological campaign is probing the thousands of figures entombed in the mausoleum. With exclusive
access to pioneering research, this program reveals how the Emperor directed the manufacture of the tens
of thousands of bronze weapons carried by the clay soldiers, as well as lethal crossbows engineered with
astonishing precision. NOVA tests the power of these weapons with high-action experiments and reports
on revolutionary 3D computer modeling techniques that are revealing new insights into how the clay
figures were made. The program reveals the secrets of one of archaeology's greatest discoveries and
brings to life the startlingly sophisticated world of Qin's legendary empire.

9:30pm Labyrinth
Memory, art and hell collide as an Auschwitz survivor finally confronts the horrors of his past after 50
years of silence. Marian Kolodziej was on one of the first transports to enter Auschwitz. He survived five
years imprisonment and never spoke of his experience until after a serious stroke in 1993. He began
physical rehabilitation by doing pen and ink drawings depicting his memories of the horrific experience
at Auschwitz 50 years earlier. Marian's drawings and art installation, which he called The Labyrinth, fill
the large basement of a church near Auschwitz. In the documentary, The Labyrinth, Marian takes the
audience on a journey through his drawings and art installations. Through the blending of his testimony
and graphic drawings, we explore the memories and nightmares that were buried for years. Marian's story
of survival and persistence, of life before, during and after Auschwitz are a testament to the human spirit.
Marian continued to draw and to speak about his experiences until his death in 2009. Why would a
confrontation with death trigger the need to record his long-suppressed memories? Why in this graphic,
metaphorical way? The Labyrinth raises these questions in a visually stunning way. This documentary is
eyewitness testimony that is unique in the annals of documenting the Holocaust. Marian is Polish
Catholic, who used his drawings to give testimony to the horrors of Auschwitz and whose body of work
provides a testament to suffering and inhumanity. And yet, it is a story of survival and human resilience.

9:00pm Nazi Prison Break
October 14th 2013 was the 70th anniversary of an event that shook the Nazi party to its core. In east
Poland, at the remote Nazi death camp of Sobibor, 300 Jewish prisoners staged a bloody break out. To
mark the anniversary, this film travels back Sobibor with the last remaining survivors to reveal their
extraordinary story of courage, desperation and determination. The film uses brutally honest dramareconstruction and first hand testimony to reveal the incredible escape story. The multi-layered plot
unfolds like a Hollywood blockbuster -- from the last-minute change to the escape plan forced by an
unexpected arrival of a train load of SS soldiers, to the systematic luring of individual camp guards to
separate locations and different, highly creative deaths, yet every terrible and inspiring moment of this
story is absolutely true. (Next Air 04/15/15 02:00am)
10:00pm Frontline - Memory of the Camps
A landmark historical film discovered by FRONTLINE in a museum vault decades ago has been called
"Hitchcock's lost Holocaust film." First broadcast by the series in 1985, the documentary shows the first
horrifying footage shot as Allied troops entered the Nazi death camps. Drawing on initial editing done by
famed director Alfred Hitchcock before the film was shelved 70 years ago, FRONTLINE reconstituted
the forgotten reels and script and showed them in public for the first time 30 years ago. (Next Air

9:00pm Nova - The Great Math Mystery
NOVA leads viewers on a mathematical mystery tour-a provocative exploration of math's astonishing
power across the centuries. We discover math's signature in the swirl of a nautilus shell, the whirlpool of
a galaxy, and the spiral in the center of a sunflower. Math was essential to everything from the first
wireless radio transmissions to the prediction and discovery of the Higgs boson, and the successful
landing of rovers on Mars. But where does math get its power? Astrophysicist and writer Mario Livio,
along with a colorful cast of mathematicians, physicists, and engineers, follow math from Pythagoras to
Einstein and beyond, all leading to the ultimate riddle: Is math an invention or a discovery? Humankind's
clever trick, or the language of the universe? The Great Math Mystery is a show for everyone; whether
we think we're good with numbers or not, we all use math in our daily lives. The Great Math Mystery
sheds fascinating light on how math works in our brains and ponders the ultimate mystery of why it
works so well when decoding the universe.

8:00pm Inside The Court of Henry VIII
Part Renaissance prince, part medieval tyrant, Henry VIII is the most famous of English kings. Venture
beyond the facade of his glamorous court to understand the danger and intrigue that routinely cost
courtiers their heads.
9:00pm My Lai: American Experience
What drove a company of American soldiers --ordinary young men from around the country deployed to
liberate a small foreign nation from an oppressive neighbor -- to dehumanize and murder more than 300
unarmed civilians? Were they "just following orders" as some later declared? Or, as others argued, did
they break under the pressure of a misguided military strategy that measured victory by body count?
Today, as the United States once again finds itself questioning the morality of actions taken in the name
of war, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Barak Goodman (The Lobotomist, Scottsboro: An
American Tragedy) focuses his lens on the 1968 My Lai Massacre, its subsequent cover-up, and the
heroic efforts of the soldiers who broke rank to halt the atrocities. This film draws upon the eyewitness
accounts of Vietnamese survivors and the men of the Charlie Company 11th Infantry Brigade and
recently discovered audio recordings.
10:00pm Frontline - American Terrorist
FRONTLINE investigates American-born terrorist David Coleman Headley, who helped plan the deadly

Nature - Animal Homes: Animal Cities
For some animals, living in the midst of huge colonies of their own kind is the most secure and rewarding
housing arrangement. Icelandic puffins form nesting colonies of more than a million, providing shared
information about food sources and reducing the odds of attacks on individual birds. But colonies are
useful for predators, too. Social spiders in Ecuador work together to capture prey 20 times the size an
individual might subdue on its own. For others, communal living provides multi-generational care-giving
options or the opportunity to build enormous cities like the acre-wide multi-million-citizen colonies built
by leaf cutter ants in Costa Rica, or Australia's Great Barrier Reef, built entirely by tiny corals.
9:00pm Nova - Invisible Universe Revealed
Twenty-five years ago, NASA launched one of the most ambitious experiments in the history of
astronomy: the Hubble Space Telescope. In honor of Hubble's landmark anniversary, NOVA tells the
remarkable story of the telescope that forever changed our understanding of the cosmos and our place in
it. From its inception through its early days, when a one-millimeter engineering blunder turned the
telescope into an object of ridicule, to the five heroic astronaut missions that returned Hubble to the
cutting edge of science, NOVA hears from the scientists and engineers on the front line who tell the
amazing Hubble story as never before. This single telescope has helped astronomers pinpoint the age of
the universe, revealed the birthplace of stars and planets, advanced our understanding of dark energy and
cosmic expansion, and uncovered black holes lurking at the heart of galaxies. For more than a generation,
Hubble's stunning images have brought the beauty of the heavens to millions, revealing a cosmos richer
and more wondrous than we ever imagined. Join NOVA for the story of this magnificent machine and its
astonishing discoveries.
10:00pm Nazi Mega Weapons - The Siegfried Line
Five times the length of Hadrian's Wall, Hitler's Siegfried Line was one of the greatest fortifications in
the history of warfare. The campaign to breach it took six months and cost the American forces close to
140,000 casualties. This is the story of the men who built it and those who gave their lives fighting to
defend - and destroy - it.

7:30pm California's Green - Santa Barbara Artists
Some people talk about the environment. Others actually do something proactive about it. Like the group

Group, as it is known, is made up of artists who paint magnificent, unspoiled open spaces threatened by
development. They then sell these art pieces at a special auction with 50 percent of the profits going to
organizations in Santa Barbara County working to preserve our precious and unfortunately disappearing
open, natural, landscape. Huell spends a day with some O.A.K. Group members as they painted in three
different spectacular locales, and then attends the auction several months later. The resulting episode of

ground into meal or flour. Travel with Huell Howser just three miles north of St. Helena off Highway 29
to Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park, the site of a water- powered grist mill that was built in 1846.
8:00pm Nature - Mystery Monkeys of Shangri-La
This is the true story of a family of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys living in the highest forests in the
world. Only recently discovered, snub-nosed monkeys are hauntingly beautiful primates, gentler than
others of their kind. Elfin-like, they seem both childlike and wise beyond their years. The family is led by
a formidable fighter and his fighting force who guard a troop of 8-10 families. The survival of this unique
monkey society, formed in response to the hardships of the Himalayas, depends on strong defensive
strategies and the cooperation and interdependence of them all.
9:00pm Nova - Dawn of Humanity
NOVA and National Geographic present exclusive access to an astounding discovery of ancient fossil
human ancestors. Located in an almost inaccessible chamber deep in a South African cave, the site
required recruiting a special team of experts slender enough to squeeze through a maze of passages. They
have brought to light an unprecedented wealth of fossils belonging to a crucial gap in the record of our
origins that spans the transition between the ape-like australopithecines (such as the famous Lucy) and
the earliest members of the human family. At the center of the discovery is paleoanthropologist Lee
Berger, a big character, brimming with enthusiasm and opinions, whose claims have stirred long
controversy in the contentious field of human origins. Join NOVA as we solve a two million year-old
"crime scene" and dig into extraordinary new clues about what made us human.
