Editorial
Dear colleagues
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 4. Symposium on Behavioural Neurology in
Lucerne, Switzerland, on Friday the 24th of April 2015, devoted to the subject of «central
visual disorders». Ranging from visual field defects or visual hallucinations to complex
cognitive disturbances such as prosopagnosia or optic ataxia, this topic is of outstanding
relevance for affected patients, their relatives, health professionals and neuroscientists.
On the one hand, many brain regions are involved in visual processing. Investigating these
disorders can thus substantially widen our knowledge about brain function and neuroplasticity. On the other hand, vision is the basis of numerous activities of daily living, so that
the quality of life in patients with neurovisual disturbances is often severely impaired.
A well-founded understanding of these disorders is therefore required, both from a clinical
as well as a scientific point of view.
As evident in the list of speakers and talks, our symposium will cover a wide range of
central visual disorders, providing a state-of-the-art overview of their clinical manifestation,
theoretical background, neuroanatomical correlates and treatment options. We are
delighted to announce that internationally renowned speakers as well as promising young
scientists have agreed to participate. The symposium will be of interest to neurologists,
neuropsychologists, cognitive neuroscientists, and all those health professionals engaged
in the treatment and care of patients with central visual disorders. We look forward to
interesting talks and lively discussions.
