A: The power for the 5400R Switch Series comes from the 6th generation custom network silicon HP Networking ASIC with
fully flexible programmable OpenFlow for optimized SDN capabilities. It supports 10 parallel Advanced Packet Processor
engines and has dedicated resources such as TCAM, tables, and counters.
Amazing performance and increased bandwidth with bridging, routing, ACL, and QoS functionality is possible due to this
dedicated hardware. It is capable of wirespeed policy enforcement for protecting, detecting, and responding to network
threats, with no network performance degradation. This programmable ASIC is ready for the next wave of mobility with
support for HP Smart Rate and line rate 40GbE for wireless aggregation and future features with simple software updates.
Q: What are the benefits of this new HP Networking ASIC?
A: The new 6th generation HP Networking ASIC provides performance, flexibility, and scalability for SDN applications;

HP Smart Rate
Q: What is HP Smart Rate?
A: HP Smart Rate multigigabit Ethernet is a new type of twisted-pair network interface that provides higher bandwidth
connectivity and PoE+ power for next generation 802.11ac devices utilizing the existing cabling infrastructure for a
convenient and cost-effective network upgrade. HP Smart Rate ports support self-negotiated speeds of 1, 2.5, 5, and
10GbE with PoE+ and operate over existing Category 5e, 6, and 6A cabling.
Q: What are the benefits of the new HP Smart Rate multigigabit Ethernet technology?
A: Most enterprises have older cable types (Cat5e) in place and it is expensive to run new cables. With support for 2.5GbE
and 5GbE PoE+, customers will be able to integrate the new high-speed wireless APs into existing infrastructure using the
installed Cat5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable at distances of 100m in many cases.
Q: What is the update on the standards?
A: From cloud to SDN to multigigabit Ethernet, HP is committed to providing customer solutions that comply with industry
standards. HP will be a driving force behind the new IEEE 802.3 standards effort around 2.5G/5G. The IEEE process is the
right place for long-term interoperability standards and bringing about a truly open, interoperable industry standard
definition. It is intended that the HP multigigabit ports will be interoperable with the Cisco solution.

A: HP Network Monitor SDN app by utilizing HP VAN SDN Controller drives performance assurance of applications. This
application provides dynamic traffic capture with real-time detailed network monitoring allowing for fast network diagnosis
and verification, rapid transition from incident to fix. It also allows for delivery of network telemetry service.

Q: What are the enhanced benefits of Network Optimizer?
A: The HP Network Optimizer SDN Application delivers enhanced user experience by automating QoS polices for the
application such as Skype for Business. Also the application provides real-time Quality of Experience (QoE) to discover and
analyze degraded media calls. It improves view of the network traffic with real-time information. Users can have exceptional
control for the network by allowing to limit the traffic based on user or location.
• Call admission control changing audio and/or video codecs to optimize user experience within the constraints of the new
QoS treatment. Example: Network congestion compresses video. It also prevents voice and video traffic from exceeding
the available bandwidth capacity, and notifies the collaboration applications of the changes.
• Dynamic media path optimization routes media along a path that is best able to meet performance requirements rather
than along the “default” shortest path allowing for better efficiency. User can send preselected traffic such as BYOD
traffic, Web browsing, low-security, video streaming onto the low-cost internet connection; however, security sensitive
and UC&C traffic will be sent over a secure WAN service with an SLA.

Q: Unified collaboration tools have built-in call admission control, what is the significance of Network Optimizer’s
Call admission control?
A: Unified communication and collaboration providers deliver built-in call admission control tools to make sure the traffic
doesn't exceed more than what the network can support. But these tools are largely inefficient as application developers
are unaware of the state of the network, and network administrators can't see what's happening inside the UC&C
applications, since those flows are encrypted. Network Optimizer addresses the visibility issue on both sides and therefore
provide call admission control aligned to real-time conditions. Centralized SDN controllers see into every port and traffic
flow on the network in real time.
Q: What are the Network Optimizer pricing and availability details?
A: The HP Network Optimizer SDN App with the new enhancements will be available in June 2015.
