In between celebration of his 80th birthday and the
50th anniversary of the Oberhausen Manifesto,
Edgar Reitz shot his latest film.
With HOME FROM HOME – CHRONICLE OF A VISION
he aims to continue not only his worrld famous
HEIMAT series but also his earliest works. A whole
village in the Hunsrück region of Germany is taken
back in time to 1840 by set designers, actors and
actresses are cast in full costumes and according to
their matching compatibility as a family ensemble.
MAKING OF HEIMAT observes all stages in the
creation of this challenging film and takes on Edgar
Reitz’ point of view on filmmaking. And in his case
filmmaking means a nearly four hour long
afterthought of the “Young German Cinema”
movement in digital cinemascope and black and
white! The filmmakers strictly followed Edgar’s
dictum: “Don’t do an ordinary making-of but make a
film that shows how films are made!”

Who will ever believe 11-year-old Felix (Oskar
Keymer) that it was he who "shrunk" the
universally hated school principal Dr. SchmittGössenwein (Anja Kling) to a height of just 15
centimeters? Even he does not know how it
happened and whether it maybe has something to
do with the ghost of the school's founder (Otto
Waalkes). But he now has the problem on his
hands or, more accurately, in his rucksack,
because that is where the mini-principal is now
and she is still shrinking. Together with his friend
Ella and in the face of resistance by his rival Mario
and the latter's father (Justus von Dohnányi), Felix
has to try everything to get her back to her normal

Due to the financial crisis in Greece, Elena decides
to move to Frankfurt. She has become pregnant by
her Greek boyfriend. In order to abort her child,
she needs money which is why she takes a job
working as a nanny for Tessa and Jan. Despite a
few struggles with 1½ year-old Lotte at first, Elena
starts enjoying the time with the little girl and
makes friends with Tessa. In a careless moment,
she loses Lotte and escapes from her responsibility
and her conscience. Out of a powerless feeling,
blind with grief and hatred, Tessa follows Elena to
Athens. In Greece, she gets pushed to her limits of
humanity and sanity. One breath decides on her
ability to forgive herself and Elena.
Christian Zübert studied German Philology before he
became a scriptwriter and director. His films as a
director include: “Lammbock – Shit Happens” (2001),
“The Treasure Of The White Falcons” (2005),
HARDCOVER (2008), “Three Quarter Moon” (2011), and
“Tour de Force”(2014).
He has also (co-)written the scripts for the films
“Fandango Girls On Top”, “Complete Idiot”, “Red Zora”,
and “Vicky And The Treasure Of The Gods”, among
others.

The Germans are coming! Bank employee Jörg
Geissner arrives on the Greek island Paladiki to
check some loan securities his bank gave for the
project „Galapagos in Greece“, he is not at all
aware of the mind-changing odyssey that expects
him. The more Geissner gets to know about
Paladiki’s people, the more he becomes aware of
the significance of his own role: The result of his
visit will settle the future of the island. So Geissner
has to ask himself to whom he really feels
responsible - the bank or the people of Paladiki.
