Nach dem Besuch des Palais wird der
Spaziergang in den verborgenen kleinen
Gassen der Altstadt fortgesetzt. In der
Rauhensteingasse stand einst das Haus,
in dem Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
1791 starb. Über die Blutgasse und den
Deutschordenshof gelangt man zum
Stephansplatz, weiter zur Peterskirche,
die Tuchlauben und über die Herrengasse
zurück zur Hofburg.
Die Tour endet um ca. 12.30 Uhr vor dem
Kongresszentrum Hofburg Wien.

After the visit to the Winter Palace, the walk
will continue, leading through the secretive
small lanes of the city center. The house
where Mozart died in 1791 was located in
Rauhensteingasse. Via Blutgasse and the
court of the Teutonic Order, participants
will reach St. Stephen’s Cathedral and
then St. Peter’s Church. The route will
continue through Tuchlauben and from
there to Herrengasse, back to the Hofburg.
The tour will end at about 12.30 hrs. in
front of the Congress Center Hofburg.

This short walk will take the group to the city center, from Michaelertor to the
Albertina and then via Neuer Markt to Himmelpfortgasse. For a long time, the Winter
Palace of Prince Eugene of Savoy housed the Austrian
Ministry of Finance before it was turned into a
th
museum in 2013 on the occasion of the 350 birthday of Prince Eugene.
Coming from France, Prince Eugene offered Emperor Leopold I his services in the ﬁght against the
Ottoman/Turkish invasion. He was an excellent
strategist and acquired great wealth as a successful
military commander. Hence he was able to commission the construction of magniﬁcent buildings, such
as his Winter Palace in Himmelpfortgasse and a
number of other palaces, amongst which the Belvedere is the most famous. He was a keen collector of
works of art
as mirrored
by the many
paintings
depicting
the major
battles he
fought in the
course of his
life.

Der Spaziergang führt in die Innenstadt – durch das Michaelertor zur Albertina und
weiter über den Neuen Markt in die Himmelpfortgasse. Das Winterpalais des
Prinzen Eugen von Savoyen beherbergte
lange Zeit das Finanzministerium,
bevor es im Jahr 2013 anlässlich des
350. Geburtstags des Prinzen zum
Museum wurde.
Prinz Eugen, aus Frankeich kommend,
bot Kaiser Leopold I. seine Dienste im
Kampf gegen die Osmanen/Türken an.
Er war ein hervorragender Stratege
und gelangte als erfolgreicher Feldherr zu großem Reichtum. So konnte
er Prachtbauten wie das Stadtpalais
in der Himmelpfortgasse und auch
andere Palais, wie z.B. das Belvedere,
in Auftrag geben.
Er war ein großer Sammler und daher
kann man sein Leben an Hand der
vielen Gemälde, die seine Schlachten
darstellen, nachvollziehen.

Participants will be taken by bus directly to the recently inaugurated campus of the
Vienna University of Economics, which is located next to the Prater area.
As a result of rapidly rising student numbers and the lack of space on the
old premises of the university, the need arose for the construction of a
new university campus. After lengthy discussions about various possible
locations, the decision was made to have the university constructed in the
zone between the Vienna Trade Fair site and the Prater, a recreation area
and amusement park. On an area covering 91,000 square metres, a university of the future was built offering space for more than 20,000 students
and 1,500 professors and teaching staff. After a construction period of
four years, the new building was completed and inaugurated in 2013. Internationally renowned architects´ ofﬁces from Spain, Portugal, England,
Japan, etc. were involved in the execution of this project led by BUS architecture Vienna who acted as overall planners. The famous Iraqi-British
architect Zaha Hadid was responsible for planning the learning and research
facilities, which resulted in the impressive Library & Learning Center (LC)
with its free overhang serving
as its most striking feature.
All rooms have daylight and
are equipped with state-of-theart teaching technology (e.g.
smartboards). The Auditorium
Maximum, the largest lecture
hall boasting perfect acoustics,
can house approx. 650 people.
The students have access to 3,000 workstations and encounter zones within
these buildings and outdoor. In addition,
the campus features restaurants, coffee
lounges, shops, and of course, a refectory
as well as a kindergarten, all of which
are open to the public.
The bus trip back to the Congress Center
Hofburg will take participants through
Lassallestraße with its residential buildings of state-of-the art design.
The tour will end at around 12.45 hrs. at
the Congress Center Hofburg.

Der Autobus bringt die Teilnehmer zum direkt neben dem Pratergelände erbauten
und vor kurzem eröffneten Campus der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien.
Die in den letzten Jahren stark gestiegenen
Hörerzahlen und der
Platzmangel in den
alten Gebäuden führten
zu dem Beschluss, eine
neue Wirtschaftsuniversität zu bauen. Nach
langen Diskussionen
über verschiedene
Standorte entschied
man sich für einen
Bau zwischen Messegelände und Prater.
Auf einer Fläche von
91.000 m² wurde eine
Universität der Zukunft
für mehr als 20.000
Studenten und 1.500
Lehrende errichtet –
die Gebäude wurden
Lern- und Forschungszentrum / Library & Learning Cent ter
nach 4 Jahren Bauzeit
2013 fertiggestellt und bezogen. Unter der Generalplanung von BUSarchitektur
Wien wirkten international anerkannte Architekturbüros aus Spanien, Portugal,
England, Japan etc. an der Verwirklichung dieses großen Projekts mit. Die berühmte irakisch-britische Architektin Zaha Hadid zeichnete für die Errichtung des
Lern- und Forschungszentrums, das imposante „Library & Learning Center“ (LC)
mit markant auskragender Bibliothek, verantwortlich. Alle Räume haben Tageslicht und sind mit modernster Lehrtechnologie (z.B. Smartboards) ausgestattet.
Im Auditorium Maximum, dem größten Hörsaal mit perfekter Akustik, ﬁnden rund
650 Personen Platz.
Den Studenten stehen 3.000 Arbeitsplätze sowie Begegnungszonen in den Gebäuden
und im Freien zur Verfügung. Es gibt auch allgemein zugängliche Restaurants, Cafés,
Geschäfte und natürlich eine Mensa sowie einen Kindergarten.
Die Rückfahrt zur Hofburg führt an hochmodern gestalteten Wohnbauten im Bereich
der Lasallestraße vorbei.
Die Tour endet um ca. 12.45 Uhr beim Kongresszentrum Hofburg Wien.

Der Spaziergang führt über den Kohlmarkt und Graben zum
Stephansdom. Im Rahmen einer ausführlichen Innenbesichtigung
wird nicht nur die kunstvolle spätgotische Kanzel erklärt, sondern
auch der sogenannte Wiener-Neustädter-Flügelaltar aus dem
15. Jahrhundert, der barocke Hochaltar und der Sarkophag Kaiser
Friedrich III aus Salzburger Marmor.
Nach einem historischen Überblick über die Baugeschichte und
die Zerstörungen im 2. Weltkrieg geht es mit dem Aufzug in die
oberen Kapellen. Besondere Exponate sind derzeit in der Bartholomäuskapelle zu sehen: das Porträt Herzog Rudolf IV aus dem
14. Jahrhundert sowie sein Grabtuch, die ältesten orientalischen
Glasﬂaschen in Österreich sowie Emailarbeiten. Während der
Führung bietet sich ein atemberaubender Blick in das Seitenschiff
auf das Friedrichsgrab. Nach Besichtigung der Orgelempore geht
es über eine gotische Wendeltreppe in die Valentinskapelle, wo
die Reliquien des Doms aufbewahrt werden. Anschließend ist
ein Rundgang in den Katakomben,
den Begräbnisstätten in den Gewölben des Doms, in denen seit
Jahrhunderten Menschen beerdigt
wurden und werden, geplant. Am
Ausgang erinnert eine Gedenktafel
Stephansdom / St.
an Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, der
hier vor seiner Beerdigung am Friedhof von St. Marx
eingesegnet wurde.
Die Tour endet um ca. 12.45 Uhr am Stephansplatz.

Half-day Tour “Unknown Treasures of St. Stephen’s Cathedral“

Participants will walk along Kohlmarkt and the Graben to
St. Stephen’s Cathedral. In the course of a detailed guided tour,
participants will not only learn about the elaborate late Gothic
pulpit but will also be shown the so-called Wiener Neustädter
wing altarpiece dating back to the 15th century, the baroque high
altar and the sarcophagus of Emperor Frederick III which is
made of marble from Salzburg.
After an introduction to the history of the Cathedral, the lift
will take participants to the chapels on the upper ﬂoor. At the
moment, special exhibits can be seen in the Bartholomew
Chapel: the portrait of Archduke Rudolph IV which dates from
the 14th century as well as his burial shroud, the oldest oriental
glass ﬂasks in Austria as well as
enamel works. During the guided tour,
participants will enjoy a breathtaking
view of Frederick’s tomb in the side
aisle. After a visit to the organ gallery,
participants will climb a Gothic stairwell in order to reach St. Valentine’s
Chapel which houses the Cathedral’s
relics. The tour will end with a visit to
the catacombs, the tombs in the vaults
of the cathedral, in which people have
been buried for centuries and may still
be buried even today. At the exit, a
Stephen‘s Cathedral
memorial plaque serves as a reminder
of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart´s consecration in this place
before he was buried in the St. Marx Cemetery.

During a walk through the city center and a visit to the two
Jewish museums, participants will learn about the history of
Jewish families and their work in Vienna.
The Museum on Judenplatz (Jewish Square), the so-called
Misrachi House, bear testimony to the oldest Jewish community
that was expelled in the early 15th century. In the square in
front of the museum you will see a very impressive memorial
that was designed by Rachel Whiteread in the year 2000 –
it is a holocaust memorial reminding us of the victims of the
Nazi regime who died in concentration camps.
A short walk through Kurrentgasse, Kleeblattgasse and via
the Graben will take participants to Dorotheergasse in which
Palais Eskeles houses the second Jewish museum. Founded
in 1895, it is the oldest Jewish museum of its type in Europe.
It was renovated and redecorated three
years ago.

Vienna. A special exhibition showing
the numerous magniﬁcent buildings along the Ringstraße (Ring
Road), most of which were ﬁnanced
by Jewish investors, documents
their signiﬁcance for the city of
Vienna.
The tour will end at around
12.30 hrs. in the Museum
Dorotheergasse.

Im Rahmen eines Stadtspaziergangs wird auf die Geschichte jüdischer Familien und ihr Wirken in Wien eingegangen und die beiden Jüdischen Museen besucht.
Im Museum am Judenplatz, im sogenannten Misrachi
Haus, gedenkt man der ältesten jüdischen Gemeinde,
die am Beginn des 15. Jahrhunderts vertrieben wurde.
Auf dem Platz vor dem Museum steht ein sehr beeindruckendes Denkmal, das Rachel Whiteread im Jahr
2000 gestaltet hat – ein Holocaust-Denkmal, das an die
Opfer des Nationalsozialismus in den Konzentrations
lagern erinnert.
Ein kleiner Spaziergang durch die Kurrentgasse, die
Kleeblattgasse und über den Graben führt in die Dorotheergasse, wo im Palais Eskeles das zweite Jüdische
Museum untergebracht ist. Gegründet 1895, ist es das
älteste Jüdische Museum dieser Art in Europa, das vor
drei Jahren renoviert und neu gestaltet wurde. Hier
werden Gegenstände des Alltagslebens und der Religion
mit ihren Riten gezeigt und der kulturellen Leistungen
der jüdischen Gemeinde in Wien gedacht. Eine Sonderausstellung über die zahlreichen Gebäude der Ringstraße,
die zum großen Teil von jüdischen Geldgebern ﬁnanziert
wurden, zeigt ihre Bedeutung für Wien.
Die Tour endet um ca. 12.30 Uhr im Museum in der
Dorotheergasse.
