It!is!a!first!time!Badminton!for!Australian!rider!Peter!Atkins!(48).!He!was!entered! two!years!ago!but!broke!his!leg!in!a!hacking!incident!just!two!days!before!leaving! for!the!UK.!! ! Peter!who!was!born!and!raised!in!Australia!is!a!professional!rider!and!instructor! based!in!the!USA;!Reddick,!Florida!during!the!winter!and!Brownsville,!Vermont! during!the!summer.!! Peter!was!born!in!Launceston,!Tasmania.!His!father!was!the!Master!of! Foxhounds!and!his!mother!was!an!amateur!jockey!and!show!jumper!and!was! long,listed!for!the!1984!Los!Angeles!Olympics!in!eventing.!Throughout! childhood,!Peter!was!active!in!pony!club,!show!jumping,!hunting!and!eventing,! and!he!began!competing!at!the!age!of!six.!Aged!16,!Peter!left!Tasmania!and!joined! the!Australian!Army,!for!which!he!competed!in!uniform!for!12!years.!He!formerly! qualified!for!the!1994!World!Championship!and!the!1996!Olympic!Games.!! ! In!the!mid!‘90’s,!Peter!relocated!to!the!United!States!where!he!began!his!career! as!a!successful!competitor,!trainer,!and!coach.!He!is!a!popular!instructor!among! all!levels!of!riders!also!noted!for!his!success!with!problem!horses.!! ! His!successful!partnership!with!HJ!Hampton!(AKA!Henny)!began!in!2007.!In! 2010,!with!Henny!Peter!!completed!his!first!four,star!(Lexington)!and!the! following!October!the!pair!represented!Australia!in!the!World!Equestrian!Games! jumping!up!from!71st!after!dressage!to!24th!and!finishing!as!the!second!ranked! pair!on!the!Australian!team.!! ! The!pair!has!become!well!known!around!the!world!for!Peter’s!helmet,cam! videos!of!their!cross,country!rounds!which!are!posted!on!You!Tube!and!Henny’s! own!website;!runhennyrun.!!! ! Peter!is!married!to!Amy,!an!endurance!rider!who!is!qualified!for!the!WEG.!The! couple!has!a!son!Owen!(6).!Outside!of!horses!Peter!enjoys!shooting!and!fishing.!! ! Henny,!owned!by!Peter,!Owen!Sandra!and!Amy!Atkins!is!a!13,year,old! Argentinean,bred!sport!horse.!He!was!bred!by!the!Henry!Jota!Stable!and!is!by!the!
