The Malmyzh Copper-Gold Porphyry Discovery, Russia
Eurasian Minerals Inc. and IG Copper LLC
LOCATION: The Malmyzh porphyry copper-gold district occurs in the Russian Far
East, 220 km northeast of the city of Khabarovsk. The project is covered by ~150 sq km
of exploration and mining licenses, and has excellent logistics and infrastructure.
STORY: Malmyzh was a 2006 Phelps Dodge Exploration Corporation (now FreeportMcMoRan Exploration Corporation) grassroots discovery, with IG Copper LLC (“IGC”)
completing earn-in requirements for a 51% joint venture stake in 2011. IGC manages
and operates the JV. Eurasian Minerals is IGC’s largest shareholder with over 40% of
the issued and outstanding shares.
The terrain consists of low relief hills within the Amur River Valley, with bedrock covered
by a thin veneer of colluvium and alluvium. Ground magnetics and soil geochemistry
have been useful in identifying concealed porphyry targets. Drilling has confirmed
fourteen porphyry copper-gold prospects within a district-scale, 16 by 5 km intrusive
corridor. Much of the property has >15 m of cover and is undrilled, thereby providing
considerable exploration upside.
GEOLOGY: Malmyzh’s porphyry centers occur as Cretaceous-age dioritic to
granodioritic stocks that intruded and hornfels-altered siltstone and sandstone
sedimentary sequences. Copper-gold mineralization is hosted in the porphyry
intrusives, as well as in the hornfels, and consists of variable near-surface chalcocite
enrichment that transitions with depth into chalcopyrite and chalcopyrite-bornitemagnetite mineralization. Mineralization extends from shallow subcrop (0.5-50 m) to
>400-600 m depth.
DEPOSITS: The majority of drilling, totalling >69,000 m, has concentrated on defining
the Central, Freedom, and Valley prospects at nominal 200 m centers. All three
prospects remain open at depth. Central is outlined as a 1,000 by 550 m prospect
principally hosted in diorite porphyry. Freedom consists of two northeast-trending bodies
with high Au:Cu ratios, and lateral dimensions of 1,400 by 700 m and 1,300 by 400 m.
Valley is delineated as a 1,300 by 1,200 m prospect hosted in diorite porphyries and
hornfelsed sedimentary rocks. Drill intercepts include:
Central (AMM-035): 406.7 m @ 0.52% Cu and 0.29 g/t Au (0.70% CuEq)
Freedom (AMM-056): 459.3 m @ 0.36 % Cu and 0.41 g/t Au (0.61% CuEq)
Valley (AMM-089): 459.2 m @ 0.47% Cu and 0.21 g/t Au (0.59% CuEq)
Ongoing work consists of resource definition, follow-up on higher-grade copper-gold
zones, and exploration for additional porphyry centers concealed beneath extensive and
shallow cover.
CuEq = Cu% + (Au g/t*0.6). Metallurgical recoveries and net smelter returns are
assumed to be 100%. Reported intervals are interpreted as true widths in porphyry style
mineralization.
