The Jr. Lifeguard Program at the Tampa YMCA is designed to provide participants with
the skills that will introduce them to the aquatic environment while offering an
opportunity to earn volunteer hours and gain leadership skills.
Participants will have the opportunity to receive the following certifications upon full
participation and successful completion of this program:
ASHI CPR Pro
ASHI O2 (Oxygen Certification)
ASHI First Aid
YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant
Their volunteer hours do count towards the requirements from most schools and also
look great on college applications!
Participants will help with a variety of duties within the aquatic department including:
greeting members, distributing swim bans, helping with swim lessons and/or swim
team, aquatics camp, helping with pool maintenance duties, data entry & special
events.
Their assistance in the aquatic department is an essential part in our ability to ensure
excellence – not only in member experience – but also safety. We take our
responsibility to provide a quality program seriously and expect our participants to
understand the commitment they are making when registering for this program.
If you are interested in being a Jr Guard this summer at your local branch, please return application
& payment to your branch's Jr Guard Advisor by May 26th. Applications will be considered in the
order that they are received and spots are very limited. We only accept 10 Jr Guards at each branch.
Your application will be reviewed and you will be informed of whether we were able to accept you into
the program by Fri, May 26th. Once accepted into the program, fee is non-refundable. Please contact
your Jr. Guard Advisor with any questions!
