OUR MISSION
Mission Statement
The Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs is to the
advocate for the leaders of the Kentucky Fire Service
providing education, information, unity and support for
the enhancement of Kentucky's Fire Services.
OUR VISION
Vision Statement
It is the Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs' vision to
provide a framework of communications and
educational support for fire service leadership across
the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This vision will be
accomplished by enhancing the management and
leadership capabilities of the Chief Officers, while
accomplishing local, regional, state and national goals
associated with providing non-emergency and
emergency services. The vision will also be
accomplished through lobbying the legislature on
matters consistent with safety, delivery of service, and
other issues relevant to advancing the cause of all
aspects of the fire service within the Commonwealth of
Kentucky.
KENTUCKY FIRE SERVICE COALITION
Kentucky Fire Service Leaders
come together.
Thursday, December 11th, was the
first KY Fire Service Coalition meeting.
In attendance were Chief Steve Kyle
(President of KFA), Joe Baer
(President of KPFF), Ronnie Day (Executive Director of
Fire Commission), Mike Kurtsinger (Fire Commission),
Eric Johnson (Executive Director of Supporting Heroes)
and Michael Morgan (KAFC President). It was noted that
this was the first time leadership from all these groups
sat at one table. This first meeting was very productive
and we are extremely encouraged by the commitment
everyone expressed. We really believe it is important
that this group of leaders open the lines of
communication and move our state forward in 2015. We
will keep everyone informed as this group continues to
meet.
Check them out!!

POLICY OF THE MONTH
January Policy
of the Month
Computer, Electronic
Communications and Internet Usage Policy
Smart phones have changed the way we operate at
work and in our personal lives. Not only are there
computers at the Fire Station, just about everyone has
one in their pocket. Often, official email and Fire
Department resources are available to department
members on their phones, whether or not the phone is
a personal or department phone. The lines are
becoming more grey each day on what is business
and what is personal. The need for a Computer,
Electronic Communications, and Internet Usage
Policy has never been greater so that department
members know what is and isn't permitted, and to
strengthen the department's position if it is accused of
mishandling information.
If you have specific questions about any of the
policies, please contact Curt Varone of LLRMI
[email protected] for general
questions, email Howard Rosewell, Property
Specialist at KLCIS, or call him at 800-876-4552.

The KAFC is proud to partner with LKC and LLRMI to
distribute and provide a link to the policies. We will be
doing a policy of the month beginning next month.

CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAW CHANGES
Constitution and By-Laws
Every organization has to evaluate how they operate
and make changes to reflect the way they do
business. The KAFC is no different. Our By-Law
Committee has been meeting over the past several
months to review our Constitution and By-laws. We
quickly realized we needed a major overhaul. The
changes were presented at our June meeting in
Lexington. They were vote on and approved at the
meeting in Bowling Green.

changes.
INTERSTATE MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT
Is you jurisdiction on the border?
Do you have a mutual aid agreement across state
lines? Owensboro and Daviess county have
hammered out an a agreement with Spencer Co.
Indiana. There is no need to re-invent the
wheel. CLICK HERE to download a copy of that
agreement to use as a template for your agreement.
We want to thank Chief Mitchell from Owensboro Fire
Dept. for sharing.
WASH YOUR HOOD SUNDAY
Cancer is a growing threat to every
firefighter.Awareness is growing...
but we need to do more to prevent
firefighter cancer. A small change
can make a BIG difference. Start
right now with the Firefighter
Cancer Support Network's
national initiative.
Wash-Your-Hood Sunday!
The concept began with Capt. Rick Triplett of the
Montgomery County (MD) Department of Fire and
Rescue Services. His goal? Get his firefighters to
wash their hoods once a week and reduce their
exposure to carcinogens. So join the fight against
cancer in your fire department right away!
