Welcome to the 22nd Knowle and Dorridge Lions annual Festive Walk in aid of Arthritis Research, Solihull Young Carers, Knowle Football Club and local, national & inter-‐national Lions causes. Key – BCH = Baddesley Clinton House; PWH = Packwood House; Turn Left = TL; Turn Right = TR; Kissing Gate = KG; Grand Union Canal = GUC SHORT WALK – (3.0 Miles approx) ORANGE Leave the registration area via the gate marked start, walk in front of BCH and forward to the gate in the fence. TL, go forward to the gate and then sharp right following the path to the wood. Continue to follow the grass path through the wood and fields until you come to a double gate. TR walk forward to KG & forward through stable yard & KG until you arrive at a road (B4439). TR & walk forward to the Navigation Inn. At the canal bridge (number 65) cross the road, go down the steps to the GUC. TL & go under the bridge and walk forward to bridge number 66. At bridge 66 leave the GUC. (At this point the GREEN & BLUE walkers TL and walk down the road). TR & cross over the canal bridge. After 30 yards TL and follow the public footpath through fields until you arrive at Netherwood Lane. TR & walk 150 yards down Netherwood Lane towards Rising Lane and the entrance to BCH drive. Walk up the BCH drive and then bear right following the cones across the fields to the gate where you started your walk. MEDIUM WALK – (7.0 Miles approx) ORANGE GREEN After leaving the GUC at bridge number 66 TL and walk down the road (after 300 yards the BLUE walkers TR on to a public footpath – see LONG WALK) for 800 yards. Immediately after crossing the railway bridge TR at The Grove (If you keep on the road for a further 400 yards you arrive at the Punchbowl Pub – to rejoin the route walk down Chessetts Wood Road) and follow the public footpath until it emerges on to Chessetts Wood Road. TR and after 200 yards TL into PWH grounds. Walk forward through avenue of trees until you arrive at PWH. (You may wish to stop off for drinks and food at the PWH restaurant which is open to all our walkers from 11am today) At PWH TL and walk forward along Packwood Lane, past road junction, where (BLUE walkers rejoin at this point) and straight on to the next road junction. Just before the three way junction TL into a Private Road. Go forward 400m to end, TR along drive to join the Stratford upon Avon canal at bridge number 32. TL on to the tow path (At Lock 14 the Boot Inn is located) & walk to bridge number 36. TL leaving the Stratford Canal & follow the signs to the GUC. Cross over bridge 37 and walk forward along the GUC towpath to bridge 65. Leave the GUC by the steps, cross over the B4439, walk past the Navigation Inn (you may wish to stop for refreshment) and TL towards the stables via a KG. Walk forward following the Heart of England Way until you arrive at BCH grounds. TR through gate and follow the path keeping the hedge on your right. Go through another gate and TR walking through an avenue of high hedges. At the corner of the field TL walk around the field edge towards a gate. Bear left, walk over a bridge, and continue to bear left towards a gate in the top corner. Go forward and then bear left to a gate to re-‐enter the registration area at BCH. LONG WALK – (9.3 Miles approx) ORANGE GREEN BLUE GREEN After leaving the GUC at bridge number 66 TL and walk down the road for 300 yards. Just before the Swallowfield Equestrian entrance TR on to a public footpath and walk forward 2,500 yards into Valley Lane. TL into Chapel Lane, cross over railway bridge and TL into Chessetts Wood Road. TR on to public footpath at Chessetts Wood Farm going forward over stiles and bridges towards Packwood Farm. Cross over Packwood Lane and continue on the footpath towards St Giles Church. As you approach the church TL through a gate into the church yard (as no dogs are allowed in the church yard walkers with dogs should go forward through a KG, cross the car park & walk down a tarmac drive to the road. TL to rejoin the route). Keep left of the grated grave, go through a gate, keep close to the hedge on your right, go round & keep tight to the hedge corner and go forward to a gate in front on you. Go forward & take a gate on your left. Walk diagonally across the field to the far corner through a KG & another KG to emerge on Glasshouse Lane. TL & walk to B4439. TL towards Lapworth & after 75 yards TL over stile. Keeping the hedge on your left move to the next field through the wide gap. TR and keeping the hedge on your right walk to the corner of the field and cross over a stile. Bear left & TR on the drive. Walk forward, cross over the road to enter PWH grounds. Follow way marker posts to KG. Keep left and walk forward and through KG on left to rejoin the GREEN route at Packwood Lane (see above). Please take care when walking on the roads, keep to footpaths & keep dogs on leads wherever there is livestock. After your walk please collect your Certificate of achievement and join the Lions for mulled wine and mince pie. Please note: Walks end at 4p.m.
