You Are Invited – Governance Training

• Introduction to the Ethos of the Uniting Church, 4:30-5:30PM
• Financial Management, 6:00-7:30PM
Governance training sessions are free of charge and are open to all board
members and senior staff of the various entities (schools, hospital, aged care and
community service organisations) that relate to the Uniting Church as part of the
UnitingCare network. Members of the Uniting Church Standing Committee and
Resources Board and other Church committees are also welcome. Not just for
newly appointed members, the training sessions are a great refresher for even the
most seasoned board members.
Presented by experienced professionals in their fields, over past years
feedback from participants has been extremely positive. The sessions are also a
great opportunity to network with members of other boards and
councils connected with the Uniting Church.

Introduction to Governance with Mark Coleman (professional corporate
governance consultant, facilitator of AICD courses): An introduction to the
duties and expectations of a board member. Topics include the legal basis of
the board, key responsibilities and duties of a director, the basics of good
board practice, and issues for not-for-profit organisations.

Introduction to the Ethos of the Uniting Church (4:30pm – 5:30pm) with Rev Rob
Brown (Executive Officer, UnitingCare SA): An overview of the history and ethos
of the Uniting Church and how it relates to members of the
various boards and councils within the Uniting Church and related entities.
Financial Management (6pm – 7:30pm) with Astrid Kuivasaari (General
Manager, Resources, Uniting Church SA): A workshop focused on the analysis
and evaluation of financial information, particularly relevant to boards
operating within a Uniting Church context. No finance background required.
It is possible to register for all or just some of the sessions, which will be held
at the Uniting Church SA office, 212 Pirie Street, city. Refreshments will be
provided, with a light meal between the two sessions on
