Blythe Valley Park | Community Travel Plan | Summary
CARS AND CAR SHARING
In an attempt to reduce the number of single
person car trips to BVP, a free car sharing
scheme has been launched, available on
www.blythevalleypark.com.
The system is designed to be used by drivers,
passengers and non-car owners alike, and all
companies at BVP are encouraged to promote
this service and to make it readily available to
their staff.
The system uses home postcodes to match
people who live near to each other or along
specified routes to work, and provides total
confidentiality until such time as driver and
prospective passenger(s) are satisfied that they
wish to make contact with each other.
CYCLING AND WALKING
Blythe Valley Park is very accessible for those
wishing to cycle or walk to the Park.
Physical improvements to Blythe Valley Park and
the surrounding area continue to be made and
have included: new cycle tracks, cycle and
pedestrian crossings and footpaths as well as
careful traffic management to ensure the safety of
cyclists, pedestrians and walkers within the Park.
Most companies on the Park have cycle racks
and shower facilities for staff who wish to walk
or cycle.
The landscaped grounds of Blythe Valley Park are
crossed by a public right of way and additional
paths, seating and signage have been created to
enable staff and visitors to enjoy the Countryside
Park, which features lakes and a Site of Special
Scientific Interest.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The popular ‘Blythe Valley Shuttle’ (bus service
166) frequently runs between Blythe Valley Park
and Solihull Train Station Mondays to Saturdays.
Service 166 links to many other bus services
along its route and at Solihull Station connects
with bus service No.966 which serves Solihull
Town Centre, Birmingham International Station/
NEC, Birmingham International Airport, Chelmsley
Wood, Castle Bromwich, Erdington and Sutton

the rail network enabling connections to the

OBJECTIVES
TRAVEL CENTRE
TRAVEL CO-ORDINATOR
INFORMATION AND EVENTS
There are three principal types of transport need:
The Travel Plan has the following objectives:
• Journeys to work - commuting between home
and the Park;
• To reduce car usage and dependency
A fully equipped Travel Centre has been provided
in the centrally located Park Management Offices,
and offers a wide range of information for
cyclists, walkers, public transport and car users.
A Travel Co-ordinator has been appointed to
provide support and advice to all businesses
and individuals at BVP.
The BVP Travel Centre and the Community
web site (www.blythevalleypark.com) provide
travel information to staff and visitors on all
transport modes in the local area and the
wider national networks - including links to
live departure boards at mainline stations and
various travel maps and timetables.
• Business related travel - work related journeys
by people from the Park;
• Visitor access - travel by people who visit the
Park for meetings, courses and conferences
and its facilities.
• To increase the use of sustainable and healthy
modes - public transport, walking and cycling
• To promote environmentally friendly delivery
and freight movements
• To reduce greenhouse gas emissions
• To improve local air quality
The Centre is run by the Travel Co-ordinator and
is open during normal office hours.
Advice is available on a range of travel issues
including: car-share promotion, travel management,
season ticket sales and taxi contracts.
The Travel Co-ordinator works closely with all
occupiers to try and encourage alternatives to the
private car and to promote sustainable travel to
and from the Park. The Travel Co-ordinator can
also provide information on local accommodation,
restaurants and shopping facilities.
TRANSPORT FORUM
A Transport Forum has been set up to discuss
any travel issues as they affect the Park.
The Forum is chaired by the Park Manager and is
open to occupiers, operators and other interested
parties. The Forum and its members are
responsible for delivering the Travel Plan.
Promotional events and discount schemes are
used to encourage sustainable travel to the Park.
BVP has joined Solihull Council’s Company
Travelwise initiative to enable staff to benefit
from discounts on public transport fares, bicycles
and accessories and free promotional material.
All companies at BVP are encouraged to join
this initiative.
