Media release - Town of Slave Lake

Media release January 7, 2015 Seniors Running Track Sponsored by Whitecap Motors Slave Lake – The Town of Slave Lake, CAO, Brian Vance and Karl Gongos the owner of Whitecap Motors Dealership in Slave Lake, are pleased to announce that the running track at the multi recreation centre, will be free for all seniors (age 60 and over) for the 2015 year. Whitecap Motors stepped forward following a senior’s delegation and petition to Council, in November, requesting free use or scheduled free time of the running track. The petition represented the community’s opposition to new rates that were rolled out September 1st of this year. Randy Westlake, Operations Manager of Whitecap Motors overheard a conversation between two seniors, while they were in the waiting room. They were upset over the charges for the running track, and Randy felt Whitecap Motors could offer a solution. Randy spoke with Karl, and the decision was made to subsidize the seniors at the running track for the year. Randy has also been instrumental in leveraging Whitecap’s generosity, with Grizzly Electric who has pledged to match Whitecap’s contribution of $4,650. Other local business’s, have also jumped on board, with Royal Lepage sponsoring $200.00 and Mr. Mike’s $500.00 for a total of a $10,000 sponsorship. Randy anticipates there will be several other business offering financial support for an ongoing subsidy.
