This is a course in the basics of boiler operations. An understanding of safety valves, water level devices,
blow down systems, fuel pumps and fuel preparation, feed water and circulating pumps, turbines, condensers,
heat exchangers, soot blowers, steam separators, DA tanks, and all other auxiliary equipment associated with
boiler and turbine operation are stressed. Students will review appropriate rules and regulations for boilers and
boiler operation in preparation for the New Jersey State Black Seal Firemen’s License Exam. Two books are
required for this class: Boiler Operator’s Exam Preparation Guide ISBN-10: 0070579687 or ISBN-13:

Electrical HVAC Troubleshooting, 72 hours

This course will provide each student the practical understanding of electrical controls, operation of HVAC
and circuitry in order to understand its operation. Students will use instruments and tools to diagnose basic
control circuits and HVAC cycle to determine faults and problems impeding normal operation of the HVAC
device due to circuit or HVAC mechanical component failure. Air conditioning and preventive maintenance will

Blue Seal Refrigeration, 72 hours - License Prep Exam

This course is a structured preparatory program to provide students with a thorough understanding of the
equipment requirements, operator responsibilities, rules, regulations, and safety concerns related to the New
Jersey State Blue Seal Refrigeration Engineer’s License Examination. The required book can be purchased
from the Local 68 Training Center for $35.

This course covers topics relating to HVAC Controls, including an overview of heating and cooling, control principles,
HVAC system energy sources, types of control systems, electronic control systems and pneumatic control systems.

Basic Refrigeration, 72 hours

This 72-hour course will provide the student with a thorough understanding of the fundamental refrigeration process
including appropriate environmental concerns. Students will have opportunities to perform hands-on work with
various refrigeration components. Upon completion, the student will have sufficient knowledge and skill in refrigerant
handling to enter the CFC Certification workshop that prepares you for the “Universal” EPA Certification Exam.

Critical System Technology, 72 hours

Critical Systems Management is becoming a core skill for operating engineers. This course will introduce the
student to the critical systems equipment found in data centers and mission critical facilities where power supply
and environmental control interruption is not acceptable. The program will cover basic algebra, electrical physics,
industrial safety procedures, power distribution, switching systems, transformers, emergency generators, transfer
switches, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), battery types, static transfer switches, environmental conditioning
equipment, air distribution systems, rules governing work in a data center, electrical connectors, fire risk mitigation
and suppression, and general techniques used in these facilities. Prerequisites: NJ Black Seal Steam, Blue Seal
Refrigeration and CFC Universal or work in a data center. Required book: Maintaining Mission Critical Systems in

Basic Electricity, 72 hours
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 pm-8:30 pm
Provides each student with electrical principles, theory and safety. Students will have an introduction to basic electrical
circuits. Topics include the importance of lockout / tag-out procedures and fundamentals of residential and commercial
circuits. We will discuss electrical symbols, prints, schematic wiring, pictorial and ladder electrical diagrams. We will
review basic wiring techniques and troubleshooting of circuits.Required book: Electrical Systems for Facilities

OSHA-10 General Industry Safety and Health Training, 10 hours
Classes Available at your Job Site Upon Request. Contact the Training Center for More Info.
Topics in this 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health Course will include an introduction to the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), walking and working surfaces, exit routes, emergency action plans, fire
prevention plans, electrical issues and more. Students will receive course completion cards. Instructors are OSHAAuthorized.
